On a recent trip to the Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro, we visited this restaurant since we had two hours to kill before heading up the mountain. A few of us were hungry anyway. So, we decided to venture across the street for a bite and maybe a beer or two.
Upon entering, we were greeted and quickly seated with menus. Drinks were ordered, and we began to look over the menu, which had a nice variety of items that ranged from traditional Brazilian dishes, such as feijoada, to hamburgers with bacon and cheese. No one spoke English, but the server took her time to get our drink and food orders, and since I wasn't very hungry, I ordered black bean soup and a side of rice. I was hoping that the soup would be the beans from feijoada, and I think I was correct.
I received a nice bowl of black bean soup, but you could tell that there were meaty bits in it as well. Of course, I used the soup to smother my rice and mixed everything together for a savory, just-right-salty, hearty goodness of a lunch entree. The dish hit the spot, and I was full in no time. I also ordered an IPA from their list, which was cool and refreshing and went well with the open air environment. Quick and friendly service topped off this visit, and I would highly recommend it if you ever have to wait for your train up the mountain. read more
