I was seeing signs in our 75 year old house that indicated to me that the house might have been sinking, so we called out several contractors to inspect our foundation. My husband & I were out of our element. We suspected there was something very wrong with the house, but we didn't know to what extent there was (or wasn't) damage, we didn't know what it would take to get each issue fixed, & we had no idea how much it would cost. I asked each contractor to bring a structural engineer along for the inspection, & Wayne was the only one who was willing to accommodate my request. The other contractors either felt that I needed to get my own structural engineer (to create a design that they could bid on), or that our situation didn't warrant a blueprint design of any kind - which gave us the impression they were just going to "wing it." We really felt our situation required a contractor to work in tandem with a structural engineer from the start. We did not feel comfortable hiring our own structural engineer to create a design that the contractor could potentially disregard halfway through repairs. It felt too risky for us to do a Design-Bid-Build contract. We wanted someone invested from start to finish. Afterall, this was not just a bathroom remodel, a hardscape, nor just an addition. It was an exceedingly complicated repair to the structural integrity of my existing home. Wayne was the only contractor who could see the extent to which our first floor joists & main triple beam were deteriorating, was able to list the myriad of serious issues we had, & in each way it needed to be repaired correctly. He was very thorough in his inspection before even talking about an estimate with hard numbers. It required 2 visits to the house, & paying a "Good Faith" fee for the structural engineer's time before we were able to get an estimate - But that's how it works with structural engineers, & we were grateful to have someone taking our situation as seriously as it truly was. The repairs to the house required us to move out of our house while Wayne's crew rebuilt our entire first floor, including jacking up & re-leveling the house. It was arguably one of the most difficult tasks they may have taken on. It required jacking up our second story, while demolishing the first floor floor, the joists, the triple beam & replacing it all. Think about it: How do you replace the first floor of a house without the second floor crashing down on top of you? How do you do it while leaving the second floor intact? Mitch & his crew handled it well, to put it lightly. Each one of them went the extra mile & took their time to make sure everything was done correctly. It took a lot of coordination between many people for us to move out & have the house ready for Mitch & his crew to get started. They were all extremely communicative, professional, & down-to-earth. We felt confident in their abilities throughout the repairs, & we are confident our new first floor will last us another 100 years. Ps. Sorry this review took so long, Dennis. He was quick to get me a quote and walked me through the contract as well. He was always responsive via text and email when I had questions and followed through on everything he said he would. The work itself was great and the contractors performing the services were on time, cleaned up after each day's work, and made sure they put down tarps and drop clothes so our Condo unit (inside and outside) were kept clean. Once hired, Alex came over and removed everything from the existing bathroom and went over the work that needed to be done. He also provided some suggestions on how to improve the bathroom so that it would not fall into a state of disrepair again. He provided a list of options for us to choose, and once we finalized the design, he went right to work. It took just over three weeks, but Alex was highly organized, detailed, focused, and transparent with everything he doing. We could not be happier with the finished project and it has completely transformed the basement. I was told when installation was going to be instead of being asked. When that date didn't work, the owners had a very bad attitude. I had to keep calling and messaging to get a date. The day of installation seemed fine. The next day my husband was deep in our yard and saw a small section of roof was not replaced. I called the owner and he tried saying my husband told him not to do that part! He was literally yelling in the phone like he was crazy. His wife co-owner, came out the next day and apologized for his behavior. She even stated "why wouldn't you do that section?". She said that they had been arguing about this. She said that he did not estimate the cost for that section! She said he would send an estimate for it and for me to call her afterwards and she would give us a materials only price. So I did, and she gave me that price, but never in writing, it seemed like a side agreement since she was arguing with her husband. She said she would talk with him about scheduling. I got no call back. I messaged, no reply, I called, no answer ...over and over for two weeks. I messaged her that I was about to call the Better Business Bureau if I didn't hear back by the next evening. Within a few minutes, the both learned how to use their phones, but only to deny the problem and send me a letter, completely distorting the facts and attempting to blame us for their neglect! Marianne Hall (wife and co-owner) is fully aware of her husband George's behavior. She even recounted several instances where we flew off the handle with other clients. This is all totally unacceptable. Additionally, we found a few shingles, and nails scattered around over the next few days. The crew left some ruts in the yard after going off of the side drive they were asked to stay away from. I overlooked these things, but now they are just a part of the full picture. At this point I would not trust them to complete the job. Their work was incomplete, communication and timeliness of appointments was terrible, the yelling and bad attitudes were the final straw!
