After several wears, my boots get dusty, and I'll bring them in for a free shine which takes no more than 10 minutes. On my latest visit, I was asked to wait in line because the store was "a bit crowded." Their store is open concept and while the display and fitting area was slightly congested, I was only coming in to get my boots shined but was still told that I needed to wait in line. Perhaps it's fire code or the like, but I've definitely seen other stores where customers were more densely packed together than it was here. On other visits and at other stores, I am usually offered a complimentary bevy while I wait for my shoes to get shined. During this visit, the staff behind the counter didn't really care to make eye contact, so I had to "excuse me?" to one of the employees to engage with them. Upon requesting a beverage, she asked for my ID, and kindly poured me a whiskey on the house. My boots always come out looking nice and shiny, so no doubt I'll keep coming back here for the shines. The parking situation in Rice Village is tough, but the only other Tecovas store is in CityCentre, where parking is just as bad if not worse. Living 50 miles, I called ahead and was told by the person on the phone that there wouldn't be a problem returning socks without a receipt. I made the trip in rush hour traffic (seriously), only to be told by the manager, who confirmed that she was actually the same person I talked to on the phone, that no return could be made without the original packaging. I replied that the socks didn't come in a package, only a wraparound sticker and a plastic fastener. She replied that she knew this, but considered those things to be the package. Really?!? To any sane person, those things are just trash! I suggested that she just scan an identical item from the shelf, but she refused, saying something like there was a chance of scanning the wrong one. I knew that there were only two versions of this product, though, because I had bought one of each version! It's standard practice for retail stores to grab a matching product from the shelf in order to scan the UPC. Her refusal to do so seemed to be a deliberate attempt to save face and deny my reasonable request. This misleading info and poor service wasted my time and fuel. I reached out to the corporate office, to give them a chance to make this right, but all they did was quote the return policy, which I did not run afoul of. To be more specific, the return policy does not require that the item be in its original packaging. I will be happy to remove my poor review of Ross Stores when they issue me a refund. Until then, y'all are better off going to the competition. There's plenty out there.
