More than a daycare. More than a school. More like Family!…read more I'm sad as I write this review because this is my son's last week at Little Sponges. Both he and my daughter attended this wonderful school. Now that we've moved and he will be attending another daycare, I realize how special Little Sponges is and how much we will miss it. When my daughter was born 7 years ago we looked at many daycare places. Most were chains and many were run by young people that didn't have kids themselves. When we came to see Little Sponges I immediately liked the fact that it was family owned and run. The director has her own kids at the school, as well as the owner's grandkids. Linda the owner gave us her cell phone number the first day and has always been available to take our call anytime we needed to speak with her. Safety and security were our top concern. I liked that the building had high windows in each classroom, but also there was cinder block all around the building. We saw many daycares that had all glass walls right next to the parking lot, and I was concerned that a car could jump the curb and go through the glass. Not the case at Little Sponges. There's a double set of locked doors, one as you enter the lobby and then another to access the main daycare area. Also Little Sponges has security cameras everywhere with recording. If there's any sort of incident its recorded and the parents can view it. There's a fingerprint computer check in and check out. If someone else has to pick up your child you can call in advance and they have to show proper ID. The classrooms are all very large and very clean. There's a large gym and a very big indoor play area. I can't tell you how many times its been raining outside but my kids had a great time running around and playing in the indoor play area which includes multiple slides and play areas. Little Sponges serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks which is very convenient for the days when we're running late and didn't have time for breakfast at home. Also they're open from 6:30am to 6:30pm so the extended care hours are very convenient for the days that my wife and I have to work either early or late. The classes all follow an age-focused curriculum. From the infants room where they are learning to crawl and walk, to the twoddlers and creative nursery classes where they are learning shapes, colors, numbers, etc. The Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 curriculum is outstanding. When my daughter went into public school Kindergarten, she was actually bored with the school work because she was so well prepared and so advanced from her learning at Little Sponges. Besides the academic curriculum, Little Sponges also has lots of amazing arts. In the classroom the children make beautiful crafts that you will actually want to hang in your home. There's an amazing dance program as well. My daughter started dance with ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. They also do father-daughter and mother-son dances with a recital at the end of the year. I did two father-daughter group dances with my daughter, and I'm so glad I did. It was an amazing experience and I'll never forget it as long as I live. There are exceptional teachers and staff members I would like to recognize as well. Roberto is an amazing teacher and an all-around great guy. Cher is also an amazing teacher and cares so much for her kids. She's pretty much family to us now! Carmen, Marcos, and Yury are also great and we love them! I'm not sure what else I can say about Little Sponges. They're not perfect but then again nobody is. My wife and I could have sent our children anywhere, and we chose Little Sponges. I have recommended Little Sponges many times and would do so again without hesitation.

Our daughter was recently diagnosed as being on the spectrum. When we had her in the 3 year old…read moreprogram she was evaluated to receive speech twice a week. Some days she was extremely difficult for my wife in the morning and had to go to the program in her pjs. Mind you it was 3 hour sessions, three days a week. We had a teacher Ms. Diane who not only called my wife about this; she seemed annoyed and disgusted on the phone. One day she went ahead and called my wife in her seemingly annoyed tone stating "You need to have your kid evaluated." My wife replied with "she has been.. hence why she gets speech there twice a week". One day I picked up my daughter and overheard the teacher say to another teacher "I have to remind myself that these are not third and fourth graders... That's what I'm used to teaching". That's nice; then go back and teach those grades since you're not willing to be equipped to handle younger kids developing with speech, behavior issues, or possible occupational therapy being with needed. Speaking to some other parents whose kids were in my daughters particular class agreed that this teacher and this place should NEVER be allowed to take in any kids with an IEP of any kind. My daughter hated going there at such a young age. Let's fast forward a year to UPK in Island Trees school district; NIGHT AND DAY difference! My daughter's teachers were so amazing (Ms. Tina and Ms. Gabby to name a few) that we all were upset when the school year ended. Just goes to show you some teachers are amazing and some are not. I'm a civil servant and you either get someone on the phone that will do their job and assist anyone anytime or someone who just shows up to work.

If you have a child who is typically developing, does not have any academic or behavioral issues…read moreand doesn't require any additional TLC, this is a nice school with great, fun projects. I certainly did enjoy all the colorful, bright, fun work that was sent home! To add to the silver lining, the communication from school to home is excellent, However, if your child has any kind of struggle - emotionally, behaviorally, academically, in reaching milestones - I'd highly recommend looking for another arrangement. At my request, my son was evaluated two months into the year and qualified for speech and occupational therapy. Both of these factors delayed his letter and number learning as well. His teacher had no patience for him whatsoever. I heard nothing but negative feedback from the beginning of the year, and did not see any attempts made to modify his classroom behavior, motivate him, or differentiate to meet his needs. There were no sticker charts offered, no modified, multi-sensory work to help with his delay in learning letters, no small, attainable goals set for him - there were just a series of complaints. It was only thanks to his wonderful service providers from outside the school that my son finally started to make progress toward the end of the year. Still, it didn't feel like enough, and, as my son started kindergarten, I was convinced he would have the same issues. Not so. Within a week, his teacher knew exactly what he needed, got him on a behavior chart, and I'm amazed that he's currently able to do so many of the things his preschool teacher insisted he just couldn't do - all he needed was the right teacher. It was a different world - one where my son actually felt motivated and capable, which he hadn't felt at Tendergarden at all. It's sad to me that an early childhood setting would do so little to help a child who just needed a little extra support, encouragement and love, but, sadly, that was my experience there. It is my hope that this may be limited to this one teacher, and perhaps the added stressors of teaching PreK during a pandemic, but, if you are concerned about your child, perhaps research other places where he or she may get more support. Preschool is supposed to be an enjoyable start to school, so I really hope no other children have the disappointing year that my child did.

There was always so much love, warmth, and genuine care, and we never had to wonder whether our kids were in good hands. Years later, our children are now 10 and 8, and they STILL ask to go back and visit Miss Dawn--and we do! I think that says everything about the kind of place she created and the impact she and her staff had on our family. Miss Dawn's was so much more than a daycare for us. It was a place where our children were loved, nurtured, and made to feel at home. We will always be grateful for those years and for the wonderful people who helped care for our kids. If you are looking for a daycare where your children will truly be loved like family, I cannot recommend Miss Dawn and her incredible staff enough!!!

The day we visited Ms. Dawn's for the first time we were happy to witness one of the teachers affectionately hugging one of the kids while the whole class was singing the "I love you" song and I was happy to know he would initially be in her class. He has since then graduated to nursery and I am amazed by how much he has learned and how eager he is to continue to learn. Big thank you to all the staff not only for all you teach him but mostly for all the love.

Moving into the neighborhood about 2yrs ago I was looking for a loving, comforting, family feel after school /daycare for my kids. I was very concerned my kids(ages 3 & 7) would not take well to this change & the transition would take a few months. My other concern was finding a suitable place to work with my daughter who at the time had a speech/language delay. My kids from day 1 have absolutely loved it! Within the first month my daughters progression in speech/language improved so much it left me in shock. The teachers worked with her therapist to help her develop her skills & get her to her age group level. The teachers & staff are more like family than just an establishment my kids attend. Thank you Loving Childcare for being the place my kids feel like they are home.
