I usually don't write bad reviews but unfortunately, this is one. I had been fighting the flu for about two days and since I was feeling better, I decided to take a trip to TJMAX with my sister and my friend. I am an African American woman who decided to wear a black bonnet and mask so that I would not get others sick. Upon entry of the store, my group and I immediately turned right where you'll find a selection of purses. As we are browsing through the purses, we came onto the aisle with a blonde headed employee, she looked as if she was a manager. Well since she was blocking the aisle, we decided to head towards the jewelry. Since that point, we had been watched the entire time in the store. And quite honestly, it was unnerving. I know people say that it wasn't like that and such, but I work in retail currently and sometimes I work hand in hand with managers. I know what it looks like when managers want you to keep an eye on someone.
More so, we stayed in this very cluttered store for a bit, really just browsing the entire store. Seeing if I really wanted something. And if I'm being honest, just like they were watching me, I was watching them. I watched as there were three managers standing at the door. Mind you, they were not there once we arrived in the store. Once I reached the cashier at the second register, I placed my items down on the counter. Once i turned around to reach more items out of the basket, a short manager that I had recognized was standing by the exit door, was next to the cashier assisting her with checking me out. Which I had found quite strange because she hadn't assisted anyone else. She informed me that she wrapped my perfume up in a bag and I ignored her tbh.
Then I knew something was seriously a problem when she stayed the ENTIRE TIME watching my friend checkout and making sure we purchased our items. As we were heading towards the exit, she was walking from behind the counters and following us towards the exit.
Like I said, I normally wouldn't take the time to leave reviews unless it was really good or really bad and unfortunately, I was uncomfortable the entire time I was in this store. I truly feel I was judged based on my appearance. I'm someone that has two jobs so I work very hard for the things that I have and just because I wasn't as dressed as I should be, now I'm being watched in this entire store. It sucks honestly because I like TJMAXX and the stuff they have. It's usually cheaper in comparison to other stores. I honestly felt discriminated against by this entire store.
The only person in this entire store that didn't make me feel uncomfortable was the cashier at register 2. I wish I would've caught her name. She was extremely nice, kinda quiet, and she offered the promotions that TJMAXX had. read more
