First of all, Dr. Gurley hasn't been there in years. Second, the pictures they show are at least 5 years old since everyone in them is no longer there. I'm on Medicare and Dr. Gurley was the only one certified to care for Medicare patents. After he left, they could no longer accept me as a patient and kicked me out the door. This place is notorious in Atlanta, especially amongst the LGBT community, for pushing expensive and unnecessary things. A practice which I find extra repugnant given that many of these people have nowhere else to turn and no support system to help them know better. Since being sold and rebranded as AHF it has only gotten worse. It took 6 months to get my prescription moved to my new pharmacy, which refilled once before it just resumed filling at my old one again. My last two appointments were canceled on me same day. Appointments to renew an existing prescription of HIV medicine, which they will only do with a consultation. To any young person reading this: This is not normal. You only need a routine bloodwork lab. There are free clinics and even online services that do this. I had not been able to refill in months before finally gaining the courage to just cut this place off. They will not answer the phone or return voicemails, and do not have a way to contact them online without using their portal. Their portal, which requires that you call on the phone to set up an account. A closed loop of incompetence. Run far and fast. Shame on these people. read more

I was a long term patient at this practice and always had great experiences---until Dr. Gurley retired. Soon after the PA I normally saw left and so did the the rest of the staff. I wanted to give them a chance to see if how they would stack up to the old staff and they didn't---just terrible experiences with front office staff. Very rude and unprofessional. The new PA was fine, but he seemed to always be in a rush to get to the next patient and didn't listen to my concerns. I have been going to this practice 4 years. For the past year, they have forgotten to call in my prescriptions, called in the wrong meds, and sent my prescriptions to the wrong pharmacy. My recent appointment was at 4:20. I left Roswell at 3:30 because I've always made the trip in 30-35 minutes. This day, I encountered road work, an accident and major congestion on 85 in town. At 4:20, I called to let them know I'd be 15 mins late (GPS estimate). I was told that Shawn said I needed to reschedule. I ask the lady to explain to Shawn that I was 15 minutes from them and 1 hour from my house, reminding them I was just coming for a Vax. With an attitude, I was put on hold. Shawn, comes on phone and told me I would have to get there by 4:40. I said, "Thank You", if the traffic keeps moving like it is, I'll make it. I get voice-inflected, "okaay". I'm weaving around cars, cursing, and running red lights on Expressway. At 4:40, Shawn's calling me. REALLY?! I answered telling her I had just turned on Auburn (street of office). I walk in at 4:42. By the way, one week earlier, I had emergency surgery to repair a ruptured bicep so im wearing a huge cast in a sling. Shawn calls me back...very unfriendly, not asking ANYTHING about my arm. It was very obvious she was pissed about me arriving late. No small talk or anything. We get in the room and she asks what arm did I want the shot? I pointed out my hurt arm and shared I had recent surgery. She didn't ask how it happened, if it hurt, nor offer any sympathy...no response. No concern. She gave me the shot, bandaid, and told me that I could go up front. Not even a, "I hope your arm heals quickly." I love my doctor, Jeremiah, but I drive too far to be treated like shit and be stressed out over all the mix-up with my prescriptions. Oh wait, after I left the office, I received a text from a doctor's name I did not recognize stating my meds were sent to Dr. Gurley Pharmacy. I texted back asking who is Dr. Liu(sp?) and why didn't they send meds to my regular CVS pharmacy. Texted me back the next day that they sent meds to my pharmacy. They sent to Publix. Text message feature would be a great option for appointment reminders so that patients wont miss appointments. I have been a patient for almost three years and looking for another doctor. I have a prescription that the new part-time MD won't fill until he/she sees me...July 5. The practice is in shambles and nobody should consider starting here. Ever since Dr Gurley left to do charity medical work in Mexico, the practice has gone down hill. many of the really great Physician Assistants and nurses have left. it's hard to get call backs from them. our Dr and/or PA has change three times in the past six months. But today I had one of the worst experiences with medical professionals in my life with the staff, nurses and Doctors there. This issue has been going on for 3 weeks now. I had a total hysterectomy on June 1, 2023. I called to get some vaginal estrogen cream as my Dr there has prescribed Premarin in the past and my my OBGYN appointment isn't until September 19. They did finally call in Premarin but I found out that cream is no longer covered by my insuranc. I talked to my insurance company and they gave be the name of another cream that is covered. I called and left a message about this. I got a call back saying that this was an estrogen pill they give to their Trans patient. I told them it comes in a cream and when I got home I google it and sure enough it does come in a cream. I left another message to that effect and no one got back to me. I called again the next day. no one got back to me. I left another message to the nurse head. someone called me back saying Dr Stewart and some other doctor would not fill this prescription because it can cause breast cancer. I said that research has been debunked and it was never associate with a vaginal cream just the Estrogen pill. I said again that I had had a total hysterectomy and my obgyn appt wasnt for two weeks. That having sex had become painful. no empathy, no nothing -- just no. Thats it. And this is a practice that advertises itself as compassionate and inclusive. These head doctors may not be cis-gendered but they are as sexist as hell. I'm finding a new primary care doctor. I got off the phone feeling like a subhuman. read more

The only doctor I've EVER been excited to see!!! I was a long time patient (10 years) of Dr. Gurley and Mr. Forrest. I began working for myself and lost my corporate insurance, and was unable to continue seeing Dr. Gurley. After visiting several doctors offices in town that offered my insurance. I was mortified with the level of care these other "comparable" doctors offered. I recently was able to begin seeing Dr. Gurley and Forrest again! Like I said before I was literally excited to see them! The professionalism and attentive to detail is so comforting!! One can really tell this practice respects everyone's time. They are typically able to get me in and out- in a timely manner, while still addressing my concerns and more! They really go the extra mile and don't treat you just like a patient but, more like a human! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Gurley and Forrest, or any member of their team! Jeremiah is very difficult to work with. He demands you get labs done every 3 months which for someone with good labs and health is extreme. CDC doesn't recommend this kind of routine. He acts like I'll drop dead any day, so the attitude in the office is stressful. I do NOT recommend this practice. read more

It's funny, I never would've thought that I would review my primary care physician on yelp. Frankly, I am hoping this is not the primary source of information about health care that people use. However, I absolutely provide a five star rating to Dr. Gurley's office. It is so nice to have a physician that understands, and is interested in the complete health and lifestyle picture of their patient. I am very fortunate, that I don't really have any significant medical issues - I just needed a primary care physician that I can rely on. They do a really good job of using technology, both for the check in process as well as for post-visit consultations between you and your doctor. My doctor is very responsive when I sent him requests and through the patient portal. read more

The office visit were fine but now that Dr Gurley (Edit: he merely shows symptoms for Coronavirus but has not tested yet, which is worse), he will be closing his practice for GOOD, NEXT MONTH. Now, I wish him well and hope he recovers, but closing his practice in the midst of an outbreak where patients need him and his staff's expertise the most is frankly disappointing and self-serving. He could have kept his practice open after a deep cleaning and allowed his knowledgeable colleagues to continue working if they desired as well as kept his clerical staff on the payroll! Furthermore, I've never seen him in person so I know that he does delegate to the other doctors. I guess it's ok for grocery store clerks to risk their lives, but not ok for a private clinical practice... read more

New Patients be aware. Long story short, doc is fine but the issue is with their insurance coding and billing practices. I concur with the reviews about the admin staff and just admin in general. I only ever go to the doc to do panel tests and for annual physical b.c i never get sick. Call the office for physical, was told that I need to come in for "meet the doc" and was schedule the next day; thinking paperwork like my new dental office, etc, i came in and was ask "what for?", answered b/c y'all told me to and to get screenings; so they tell me, they can do it right now so urine and blood, then met the doc for 5 minutes who asked me questions i answered on the paperwork. Now the annoying part, got charged fully for the "office visit" and tests, so was like wait a minute. The tests i know my insurance covers partially but the other charge was for office visit; so apparently just stepping into the office cost $136 even if NO SERVICE was rendered. After an extended session with the billing lady Olga and a call to my insurance, what they did was coded test as "elective" meaning no coverage instead of "preventative" as they should've and they ending up having to fix it b/c i know my insurance covered my past tests. So I will admit they "got me" for the orientation office visit, but they intentional code the tests as elective -.-; lastly when scheduling the physical (what i originally asked for), there were no availability for 3 months (even though they were able to schedule the visit the next day) and the best part is when i asked if i will be charged an "office visit" b/c i know my insurance covers my physical, the front desk would not give me a straight answer. It was ridiculous so I ended up not even scheduling the physical; I don't even want to deal with this shady stuff. read more

I went in as new patient only to be treated by FNP-C. He was more interested in prescriptions that could be pushed my way or expensive vaccine for HPV He checked to make sure my provider would cover it and tried to sell me on it. I went in for allergies for which he would not treat with the same treatment my previous doctor has done. My partner went in at the same time to same practice and received the shot and had a completely different experience. My suggestion is avoid this "medical office". They looked like a med spa not a doctor's office. I will gladly find a doctor that is taking patients and not just having his staff do the work for him. read more

Forrest the PA is great, Dr. Gurley himself also good. They are accommodating and fine. I truly wish I wasn't writing this as they themselves are good practitioners. Now to the employees --- front desk is just a terrible staff, per the below reviews - it's the same staff and they're just awful. No call backs, very bad attitude. Phone skills are just bad, no other term needed. They have an entitlement attitude that your needs as a patient aren't that important. I work in healthcare as a rep, so for those not understanding what that means - I go to literally 100 other offices and this treatment is incomparable. I see on a day to day basis 10 offices a day and know the staffs and what treatment, response time SHOULD BE. As for this office - I love the physicians, they're great it's why and how I came to be a patient. But unfortunately their staff is just not worth the physician care anymore. Laize fare attitude in healthcare is about as bottom barrel as it gets. Imagine this scenario - you need a prescription, let's say for instance it's hormonal or pain or emotional and you lose it, forgot it etc.. You call, they forget to call the script in and it's Friday - then their response time is a full day and their staff is just like whatever we will get to it when we can... now you're in full swing emotional, physical breakdown. This is how their staff operates - good luck with that. They could care less and it's just unfortunate. Move on to the next - you'll thank me later. read more

I am quite flabbergasted the way this office conducts their business. First, Dr. Gurley is racist and his fellow colleagues exude the same behavior and characteristics. I only started going here for Dr. Trenton Elliott who is a phenomenal and amazing caring physician some Dr. Gurley will never be. Sometime Dr. Elliott mysteriously disappeared abruptly they didn't notify patients or anything. It was very hush hush about what went on. I was devastated because never had I a doctor who actually was invested in my health and so resourceful. I did some digging and seen Dr. Elliott launched his own practice so I started going to him until he switched insurance carriers and I could no longer visit his practice. I decided to return to Gurley and that's when everything got weird. They were treating me weird and kept probing me on info about Dr. Elliott. Recently I required an injection, Dr. Gurley advise me that my insurance company had to approve it, I waited a week and they call me and informed me that it was approved. I got the first injection and they submitted the claim but it was denied, no one contacted me to inform me about the denial from my insurer, I just so happen to call for a follow up about my next appointment. And the receptionist told me it had been canceled and I needed to talk to billing. I receive an email from billing advising the claim was denied and I was told it was approved by them so why did I get the injection if it wasn't approved. Contacted my insurance company and they found no record of a prior authorization, Dr. Gurley and his team LIED. All while this is going on they refused to fill my prescriptions, I don't even think that's legal. This week I was preparing for my 3 month check up, attempted to log into my account to confirm my date, they blocked my account and online portal. They do not communicate or call just like everyone else said in the reviews, they are childish and grossly negligent. I would not advise you to visit this facility especially if you are a person of color. read more

From the moment you walk through their doors, you are treated to a team of professional, attentive office staff within a casual (yet incredibly comfortable) atmosphere. If you are one of the many people (including myself) who have experienced judgement or discrimination in the healthcare industry, please rest assured that you will never feel that way within the walls of this practice. That's not even the best part; I've been given the privilege of having Dr. T.C. Elliott as my own doctor for about a year now, and I have no idea what I've been doing without him. He's genuinely interested and invested in providing the very best care and bedside experience for his patients. I consider myself one of the luckiest in the world to have him in my life and playing such an important role. I live at least one hour away from this office, yet have no problem what-so-ever battling the commute so that I can be in the best hands possible. Linsie and laser hair removal- she knows what she's doing! This review is primarily for Linsie Thompson, the esthetician at Dr. Gurley's office. Linsie is excellent. She knows how to use the laser to kill hair and stop it from growing. That's not as easy as it seems; I tried both electrolysis (my skin was too sensitive for it without anesthetic, which isn't available in Atlanta) and another laser hair treatment procedure before finding Linsie. Before Linsie, my experience with laser hair removal was not good. I thought it might have been my hair, but Linsie asked me to give her a chance. And IT'S WORKING. Laser hair removal has critics, but after seeing results with Linsie using an identical machine, I'm thinking that the technician plays an extremely critical part in making the process work. Linsie is very methodical in her movement of the laser on the skin, and she moves the laser wand very slowly. She also understands which areas of the face need more exposure, and she's very diligent about making certain she's effectively covered the entire area of skin that she's working on. It does cause more discomfort (sometimes I'm writhing on the table), but that's because my skin is ultra-ultra-senstive (if I even touch it with a shaving razor, it bleeds.) But it is much less painful than electrolysis, which I was dreading returning to. Linsie also does a fantastic job of making sure my face is numb before beginning the laser treatment. This is where having the procedure done at Dr. Gurley's office is advantageous, because she is able to use a prescription anesthetic that is more effective than OTC products. Between applying it to every piece of my skin that's being treated (and Linsie is excellent in applying it very precisely, and not just rubbing some on in the general area), and using an ice pack, I'm able to tolerate the energy level that's high enough to kill the follicles. That's another key difference with Linsie- she knows the energy level required for effective treatment of differing hair types, and she can dial in the joules to make sure that she achieves results. Concisely stated, the laser machine alone can't remove hair effectively. It takes a knowledgable and skilled esthetician to use the laser effectively, and Linsie knows how to use the machine to achieve results. P.S.- Jeremiah and Dr. Gurley have been wonderful to see as well- especially Jeremiah- but Linsie really saved my faith in this practice, and is keeping me coming back on a routine basis. Love this practice - very professional, competent, caring staff & physicians. Making appointments is easy (not on hold forever) and I've never waited in the waiting room more than 10 mins, usually less. I highly recommend these folks. And yes, per other reviews, Dr. Douglas Gurley did briefly decide to CLOSE his practice (permanently) due to some issues during Covid. However, he apparently had a change of heart and reopened. Not my favorite moment, probably could have been handled differently, but I like this practice so much I can forgive and move on! I have been to the office since and things were wonderful. read more

Dr. Gurley has lost touch with the reason he went into practice. I've been a patient of his for almost 20 years and have supported his practice from when he worked out of King Plow. I was recently laid off due to COVID and moved to PA to take care of my family. I have not yet found a primary care physician and was trying to get one prescription refilled. After 2 emails and 2 voicemails, I finally received a return call stating I had to have lab work and a televisit. I explained that it's been just over 3 months since my last labs and I was unemployed and completely out of this medication. They filled my prescriptions for an entire year last year without any labs and now when I am unemployed and trying to help my family, they refuse to provide one more refill until I can find a primary care physician and employment with insurance. WOW - after all of the years of support. Unfortunately, Dr Gurley has become more interested in doing botox, fillers and being greedy than actually helping people. Very sad since he used to be a good doctor that actually cared about his patients. Now he only cares about making money to pay for his condos, cars and expensive vacations. I am highly disappointed and expected more from a professional. I recommend seeking a doctor that actually cares about his patients and not just filling his pockets. read more

I even went through a lot to change my health insurance over to an insurance I was informed, by your staff, that you would take. 2 weeks ago I set up an initial appointment with you on August 2nd. The staff member verified that you do take United Health. Today, almost 24 hours prior to my appointment I received a phone call saying you don't accept the Medicaid portion of my insurance with United Health. Now I have to find another Dr. and waste another 2 weeks or more to even be seen by another Dr. I have no doubt you are a good Dr., however, your supporting staff has lowered your rating in my eyes. They should have been thorough and diligent in the initial set up of the appointment. I just wanted to bring this to your attention and to let you know how disappointed I am. read more

Dr. Gurley came recommended from a friend and I was in need of a doctor so I went to him. First, let me comment on his bedside manner. There is/was none. To deliver bad news, he delivered it nonchalantly. Second, and I only realize this now, he suggests tests that are completely unneeded nor necessary. In my humble opinion, solely to charge you and your insurance. Why do I say this? Well, after consulting with other doctors after the fact, the responses were that those tests were unneeded. Simple. Third, he may be a specialist in his field, however, you cannot overlook the fact that his practice is more boutique-style than a doctor. He offers everything from freezing liposuction to Botox; more money makers. Fourth, he charges way much more than other doctors. I recently switched doctors. I had a complete physical and paid not one dime out of pocket thanks to preventative care. However, for the same physical because he will go above and beyond what is called for, I walked out with a $1,200 bill after insurance. And, also having just switched doctors, the same tests that he does for $530 was $69 with my new doctor. Fifth, the privacy between exam rooms isn't sufficient. You can hear conversations in the next exam room. Sixth, the phlebotomists don't wear gloves. Seventh, the office staff is horrendous! The office manager was unwilling to work with me on paying a bill while I was there in person. (Note: read what you sign before you sign it!) I was basically thrown out of his office for confronting the office manager about a billing issue. He did not want to discuss it with me even after verbally promising otherwise to help. And, I was not allowed to talk to him about it, otherwise, I was literally told to "get out." I had no choice but to stay because he wouldn't refill an Rx without seeing him. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a doctor and she told me what he did was illegal. Basically it's alleged abandonment which is illegal. Eighth, the old staff was so much better! Make your own decision, but I would never recommend him at all. Period. read more

Terrible communication. I made an appt for a physical as a 1st time patient based on a referral. I was very clear in making the appt i wanted a physical. I needed it for paperwork i need to turn in next week. After sitting in horrible traffic for 45 min on 85 i get there to be told they arent doing a physical and never do on first time patients. I needed it urgently and that wasnt communicated. I would have made the appt elsewhere had they been clear. They absolutely wasted my time and the girl at the front desk is rude as hell. read more
