Free street parking, but it was a bit hard to find a spot on a Saturday night. Restrooms were also pretty clean. Most of the seats at the bar were taken so my partner had to squeeze in to order a drink, but it wasn't too difficult to get service. Service was also nice and quick each time he ordered a drink. I thought the prices were pretty good for how expensive drinks can be these days. They also have a happy hour that ends at 8pm every day and daily specials, but I forgot what they were. Maker's Mark Old Fashioned $10 Maker's Mark and Coke $8 Shiner Bock $5.25 Coors Light, Bud Light $4.50 My partner got 3 old fashioned's and thought the first one was too light, so he asked for less ice on the next one. That seemed to fix the flavor balance. There were 2 dart boards and a pool table, but I think you have to pay to play pool because there was a daily special that said free pool on Monday's. I think the darts are free though. There were a decent amount of TVs, but I think there was a sports podcast on when we went lol There were also a number of classic red leather loveseats that I think would be great for couples on dates. The patio in the back was very vibey and had a bunch of lights. There was a birthday party set up back there, so I think you can host parties there if you contact the bar. The floor was made up of wooden planks over the ground, so it wasn't unusual to see bugs on the ground outside. Not much to do about that for an outdoor patio though. There's also a comically large wooden chair that you could take a photo op in lol All in all, this is a classic dive bar that satisfies everything you want when you're in the mood to go to one.

Ambiance (3.5/5): Pretty much your typical Irish pub. Chill, lots of wood, a decent amount of TVs. The type of casual spot where you can have a good beer, talk, and watch a soccer game. Which is exactly what we did since the World Cup was going on. We sat at the bar. They also have a patio in the back, but I didn't check it out. Service (4/5): McElroy's wasn't too busy when we arrived, but service was solid. We had a beer, closed out, and we were on our way. Food (N/A): We were on a liquid diet, but I did notice that they have free hot dogs during Astros games. That's a pretty awesome perk. Drinks (4/5): As you would expect, heavy on beer though they have a full bar. When I'm at an Irish pub, I'm going to go with an Irish or British beer. They have a good number of those options too. Plus daily happy hours, including weekends, and daily specials. I love a bar that has a good number of deals. You'll find that here.

The food is very good - a mix of pub fare and authentic Irish to match the atmosphere. We particularly love the cheese curds, potato skins and loaded baked potato soup, but the shepherds pie, corned beef and cabbage, and fall off the bone lamb shank are just as good. The true surprise is the pizza - by far the best in Houston! They recently brought in darts and pool tables, and regularly host trivia and karaoke! Rarely do you find a place that feels like home, but the staff is wonderful and welcoming and the vibes are right. We can't recommend it enough!

And if you've got a bunch of cash you are looking to burn for a yummy dinner because they're cash only. And one drink purchase is required. Amazing seasoning, which they actually sell I think! The steak itself runs about $35ish If you add a half rack of lamb, double that price. If you want one side, and or sausage add $5 each. This picture here is a plate with a half portion of steak, sausage, lamb, mashed tatoes. Not pictured is the other half portion + a beer that was with my Fiancée. With tip, this ran us $95 for dinner on a Thursday. Almost a benjamin, I wouldn't say this was a good deal but it was a tasty dinner. Go elsewhere if you're looking for bang for your buck and don't have cash.

Steak night starts at 7, which means that's when they start taking orders. If you want to beat the rush, you should already be in your seat by 6:30-6:45. It's a two-man show on steak night. The husband is outside grilling everything on what looks like a standard home grill while the wife is taking orders. Orders go out in batches. They're definitely efficient and work as fast as they can, but with that comes a little abruptness- they aren't the friendliest, but they're focused on getting everyone fed. We got there at 7:05 and didn't get our food until 8:25. Was the wait worth it? Absolutely. The steak was tender and juicy. The lamb chop was charred perfectly. And surprisingly enough, the sausage was my favorite. It was JUICY. When you bite into it, the juices literally burst out. Something had a little kick to it... it wasn't the sauce, but I actually liked it. The jalapeño cheddar mashed potatoes were also great.

How have I never reviewed Saint Arnold Brewing Company?!…read more It's the longest running craft brewery in Texas, having won countless national awards. Though I don't drink beer anymore, I love that they do have a line of ciders and sparkling water at the brewery; and they have a few wine options. Most recently, I had their pizza margherita (made with cauliflower pizza crust, per my request). It was surprisingly very good! I wasn't expecting much, but it was crispy and had zesty pesto sauce that made it even better. If you don't want to order from their kitchen, they do have food trucks and other artisan vendors, entertainment. Do a tour if you can. It's kid and dog-friendly. For $15 plus $5 for chicken, you'd expect it to be at least a decent sized salad and have salad stuff in there but you just get a few pieces of chicken and a green goo with just a few and I mean this literally, a few pieces of arugula? I guess I should have read the fine print which didn't mention lettuce but how can you call something a salad that doesn't have any kind of green leaves? I have been coming here a few times a year for various events but the place just doesn't seem to have any sort of a niche...yeah they have beer but I could get that down the street at any pub. They don't even bother putting ice in their water coolers anymore either.
