I now have to get them taken off and redone somewhere else. I also had a pedicure done. The lady cut my big toe with the electric file while removing my old polish. It bled quite badly. I now have to watch for infection. I didn't complain because the management doesn't seem like the open minded sort. I don't like confrontation I will just never go back. I always try to leave a positive review for anywhere I go. I was so excited and I wanted to love this place. They just seem like they want you in and out. I didn't have an appointment but when I called in they told me I could come by right then. The lady who did my nails was so sweet. She made sure I was comfortable from the moment I got there until the moment I walked out. She was very thorough and made sure I was satisfied. On top of the wonderful service, the pedicure only cost $25!!! You would expect to get a basic pedicure with that price but it included a sugar scrub, brief hot stone massage and hot towels as well. Shouldn't the birds be singing, the flowers near bloom, the trees readying their leaves? Right, that was the week *before* I arrived. Now, it's 20 degrees, it's snowing, the wind is blowing 20 mph, and my feet are in a pedicure tub of hot water up to my ankles. I could care less about the weather. Bliss. Truth be known, I've had 4-5 pedicures and adored them all. This was one of the best, because 1) I was on vacation. 2) it was brutally cold, and 3) all I had to do was relax and enjoy it, and how I did. The ladies here are sweet as can be, very thorough, and the price is about 1/3 less than I'd expect to pay in the states. I'm sold. Sign me up for the next visit, please. My girls were here the day before and had their nails done which is in part surely how I arrived here. Glad I did. They also advertise other things I know very little about. Waxing, eyelashes, UV gel, and something called Solar Powder. I'll Google that later, thank you. No entry for them on Yelp? I'll fix that. This is an area with a lot of visitors from around Canada so why anyone in their right mind wouldn't want to enjoy this escapes me. Here I am, performing a public service. You're welcome. If you come. Major credit cards accepted. Stones throw from several nice restaurants, tea and coffee shops and a bit of shopping here and there. I can see this becoming part of a perfectly wasted day in my immediate future. Very highly recommended.

I just accompanied some family members to T.D. Modern, and have to say that I found it kind of…read morewickedly hilarious. It's a small, privately run salon that offers haircuts for kids and adults, coloring, perms, updos, waxing, manicures and pedicures, and makeup service. The place smells distinctly of nail polish remover, hair spray, and chemicals. It's run and operated by a bevy of older Vietnamese and Chinese ladies wearing a mix of adorable Asian-Canadian fashions. They have exuberant conversations in accented English and excited Cantonese with their patrons - generally gossip about their families and "the old country". The clientele appears to consist largely of older immigrants, their young, surly, first-gen kids (whose style is still dictated by their parents' idea of affordable haircuts), and cackling, good natured old biddies (like my grandma) getting their monthly perm and color. As mentioned above, the place is small, with only four hairstyling chairs and a small backroom area - which, I assume, is where they handle the waxing. Their prices are really good for their services ($15-22 for a basic women's' cut, $11-14 for men; highlights starting at $35), but they're not exactly cutting edge. The hair magazines are largely from the eighties, and maybe some from the early nineties. They've of course got your modern Vogues to read as well, but they're interspersed with promotional materials for old school Chinese operas. As a fashion-conscious, semi-vain twenty-something, I can't say that I would ever come here for my own purposes, but I do have a huge soft spot for establishments like these. They always remind me of getting haircuts with my mum while in my tweens, and thus fill me with equal parts nostalgia and annoyance.

I was told they would be able to get me 1 shade darker than what I was asking for, I agreed to that. When I had finished, I had black hair. It was darker than the colour I had came in with. HOWEVER because I am a non confrontational person, and I had just been in the chair for 3 hours, I said I liked it. Then later that day tried to follow up with the manager. The manager Theresa took 5 days to get back to me, which she then responded with "you told the stylist you liked it, so if you want it changed, you will have to pay for another service." Even after I had explained why I told the stylist I liked it in the first place. I was told not to worry, my hair would fade, well almost a month later.. It still has not faded. I will never be returning here.
