I came for a blowout, and right off the bat, it was evident that the trainee was not experienced with blowouts on long hair. However, I had no issues with the trainee itself. The trainer would come here and there to give some pointers, but after the wash and comb through, the trainee spent several minutes on one small section of hair while we were almost an hour into the appointment. While the trainer was there, I politely asked if it would be possible to complete the blowout in 30 minutes, as I had to be somewhere. This was on me because I have longer-than-average hair, and I should have double-checked while making the appointment. I was told that it would take about an hour when I made the appointment. The trainer got super defensive and stated that I was asking for too much, and this would technically be an $80+ blow out (my blowouts at traditional salons have never been $80+). I was surprised as to why he was so offended when I only politely asked and even offered to come back at a later time, as they close at 3 pm. Nonetheless, my event was postponed, and I was able to stay for longer, but the trainer ended up doing the blowout while the student watched. What I don't understand is why the students are made to do the service independently when they do not have much experience. The trainee was very sweet, and I understand that they were trying their best. It was overall a strange experience, and I don't think I will go back again. The results were just okay, and the curls did not last through the day.

But it's next to Anytime Fitness on the cross road of Dobson/Guadalupe. To my surprise, Don Villa Beauty School happens to be a feeder school for nail salons throughout the Valley. Tom a hair professional and instructor colored and cut my hair. In between, I was treated to a meticulous nail student doing my nails. I chatted with the school manager regarding school and students. My daughter attended this school's adult aesthetician program and was scammed by a company that the…read moreschool teamed up with and promoted. The program invites businesses that target young, impressionable students. One of the businesses promised my daughter a package that included a training kit, a certificate, and products. She attended and paid $250 for the class but did not receive anything that was promised, including the class certification, product, learning materials, or the kit. Bringing in professionals from the trade is beneficial to their learning, but to promote a company that preys on new aestheticians who are impressionable and trusting is downright unethical. If they promise something, they need to deliver their end of the bargain. We have contacted this company many times, as well as our bank, and have not reached a resolution since this company is unwilling to communicate, and when they do, they are unhelpful and off-putting. Let this be a sign to not believe all the propaganda you are fed as an impressionable student, and to do your research before purchasing from these schools and companies. EVIT, check who you do business with and who you expose your students to.

Saturday morning after running some errands I dropped by my usual Barbershop to find them very…read morebusy. I remembered Empire coming across my feed on Facebook. Being a Barber School I was hesitant but decided to take a chance. When I walked in I was warmly greeted by Tommy. I didn't have an appointment but he set me up and told me he could get to me in about 10 minutes. As I was waiting Felix approached me and said he could take me if I wanted. I showed him some pix of my haircut that I had some time ago that I liked. He took his time and was attentive. He didn't get distracted and yammer on like I've seen in some "professional" shops. I've gotten up and walked out of shops like that. Some never even noticed me leaving. Felix is the man! I was very happy with his work. IMHO this young man is going to have a bright future. I highly recommend Felix if he's there on your visit. Lastly I got the Senior price of $10 which is 25% less than the place I've been going to. And I felt the quality of the haircut was better.
