This may have something to do with the fact that Troy is a restaurant and not just a take away. They serve Turkish and Mediterranean food, as well as the most refreshing tea in the world! The place is run by really friendly people who take a pride in what they do. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and it's a place where a lot of the locals pledge their allegiance. Business is not as brisk as it used to be a few years ago. There are now too many restaurants and takeaways doing the same thing, providing too much competition along the City Road. Troy was one of the first, and thankfully they haven't lost the passion for what they do. A kebab will set you back about £6.00, but there's enough food for two people, making them really well priced for what you get.

The doner kebab is exactly like any you'd find down the street but competes well with Adonis kebab takeaway.

I don't possess a…read morethorough knowledge of the Classics, but as far as I'm aware, Adonis is a Greek God that was revered for his beauty and physique, (a kind of Classical equivalent of today's most adored movie stars, that tend to be legends in their own lifetimes), who was the love interest of Aphrodite, and died tragically way before his time. Adonis is essentially seen as sexy these days... which is hardly surprising considering his union with Aphrodite. So, the fact that this terrible proper Halal takeaway bares his name, makes my smile every time I see it! It's fair to say that City Road is awash with kebab houses these days, all vying for diminishing business, but this is one of the better ones. Not only is it far superior in appearance than some, the quality of the food is streets ahead, placing it in the top bracket for the area... and that's some achievement amid such fierce competition. They are certainly not the cheapest fast food outlet on City Road, but I believe that it is worth paying for quality. I recommend that you dig a little deeper in your pocket the next time you venture onto City Road for a takeout, and give Adonis Kebab House a try. You won't be disappointed. They have recently extended the business to offer eating in as an option. The surroundings are pleasant enough, and the service is good. I recommend any of the lamb options, and the Kofta Kebab.

Any hoot this place has a clean kept shop with a nice appearance and the presentation of the food is good. I only ever have doner kebab so I'm a little biased but they do it well and i'm pleasantly surprised. As just another shop of this type along an awfully long road with many similar establishments there seems no reason to choose this one over any of the others.

If I'm going to eat greasy, ambiguous meat that could easily be the remnants of an unfortunately slow pigeon, I'm going to eat a LOT of it. And second, I want it to be hot. Few things are worse than picking at the cold meat of a kebab; there's a sadness that goes with it that exceeds the usual sadness of a kebab. Eating a cold kebab is like eating processed depression. And, luckily for them, Venus hits the mark on both of these counts. The food is many, and the food is hot. I know it's a pretty mediocre set of requirements, but you'd be surprised how many kebab shops don't manage it.... They also happen to be very nice lads there; they've got the studentville banter down pat. Sadly, they are merely average. There's not a bad word to say about Venus, but, equally, there's not a good word to say either. If you get food from here, the post-meal thought in your head will be "Well, I sure did just eat a kebab". And with Aladdin's just down the road, that doesn't quite cut it.

Convenience is everything, and sometimes a long queue can help you decide to go elsewhere, although such popularity is of course, a good indication of the favoured eateries ... tricky... especially if you are in a hurry! Luckily, all of the takeouts at this end of Albany Road have their merits, and so there's not much to worry about. I like the fact that Albany Grill serve Halal meat, but it does tend to make it a bit more pricey. They serve pizza, kebabs, fried chicken, burgers and a good range of Indian dishes too. My personal favourites are the chicken options, but they do everything pretty well as far as I can tell. Nothing remarkable then, but Albany Grill serves its purpose nicely.

Caroline Street is the top spot for Cardiff clubbers to congregate in the early hours to soak up some of their alcohol and cure their late night munchies. Tony's and Dorothy's both do the job well, and generally have queues snaking out of the door during their peak periods, but Tony's is best known for its chicken curry and chips - a hot favourite. They also have pies, battered sausages, fish cakes, battered plaice, kebabs, and even falafels for vegetarians. One other thing about Tony's is the fact that the staff deal so well with all the drunken people they face night after night! I guess they've built up a thick skin, but still they always manage a smile even on the rowdiest of nights.

Sure, most of them have managed to survive for a sizeable amount of time by picking at the scraps these two have left behind, but at 4am, there's really no competition. You walk up Chippy Lane and the only question is "Dorothy's or Tony's?" In fact, the only reason any other chippy on Caroline Street gets any business is because those two often end up so packed with customers, potential punters give a disheartened sigh and "may-as-well" their way to one of the lesser shops. And it's a reputation that's well deserved. At 4am on a Sunday morning, a chippy could get away with serving chips made of wood shaving and cutting kebab meat off a rotisserie pigeon and most of the punters would be none the wiser. Tony's doesn't do this. Instead, they serve some truly excellent fish and chips (I don't speak this highly of artwork; clearly I have issues). They are very proud of their chicken curry off the bone, and they should be; it's good stuff. It's their sausage and batter in chips that is where it's at, though. Getting that in your stomach is the perfect ending to a wasted evening.
