People will often ask me why I'm a vegetarian. I'll always pause and think of lambs leaping around a field, or calves nestling close to their mothers and opening their long-lashed doleful eyes. In my head, I'll try and form an argument where I look like a caring person who looks after God's creatures and has enough conviction to fight for them. But then the inevitable happens. The truth forces its way out and I have to admit I've currently living the vegetarian lifestyle out of habit.
You see, it makes life a helluva lot easier if there are only two options on the menu. I can make one glance at the paper before me and, within mere seconds, decide what I would like to eat.
It came as a great surprise, therefore, that a fatty, oily, greasy place like Mamas left me debating the options for so long. Do I want a margherita pizza? If so, should it be naked or with extra toppings? Or should I have a hot vegetarian? Or just a vegetarian? And do I want these options with extras?
Such decisions were even harder to make as it was Sunday and the blasted things were buy one get one free (a deal which I would ordinarily be completely delighted with).
Time went by, people speculated as to how long it would take for me to decide on a house (my answer to that, based on experience, is probably about one minute) and I was given a piece of paper and pen in order to make my decisions a little easier.
When the pizzas come they were lovely, especially considering it was a bargainous £6.50 for two. The lovely man behind the bar was exceptionally patient and, despite apparently knowing a fair few Greek swear words, refrained from using any on me.
