Thameside Car Park
Anyone who has visited Kingston upon Thames recently, by car, will know how notorious, and often…read morefrustrating, the vagaries of the one-way system are. Add to that the pretty harsh parking restrictions (which have just become even stricter) and it can take quite significant determination and patience to want to visit, in a private four-wheeled vehicle. Happily, in this context, public transport or my own two feet are usually my preferred means of arrival. On Sunday evening, however, my companion and I needed to park here. We took a long while to chance upon this sweet little car park, by the river, heading towards Teddington. It was a bargain, at just £1 for the whole evening, and worked efficiently in terms of access and obtaining the relevant ticket. Recommended for a great view, too!

They do have payment booths that accept credit cards, but my card failed and so did my attempt to pay via text. Luckily a passerby was kind enough to have change for a fiver - maybe the owners could think about putting in a change machine? Main other great things about this parking lot are firstly, the map of Bath attractions located towards the entrance/ exit and also secondly the public restrooms if you need to go super urgently. Oh and one other thing - this car park is located really close to the Royal Crescent and so if you are a tourist, I would suggest checking it out first, as this is an outlier and everything else touristy is more centered around the High Street.

National Car Parks Regency Square
I'm not a car driver and I wouldn't want to be one either. This carpark is very important because…read moreof its location. Every tourist traveling by car seems to want to arrive in Brighton via the coast road. This is the first real carpark they will encounter. Because of its location it takes cars away from driving into the centre. This enables the city roads to be less jammed. I once heard that all the squares off this main coastal route wished to have such underground carparks. The Regency square turned out to be the only one that didn't have an ancient river below it or any other problems stopping such a project.

I have never used the long stay part but there are always spaces available. An added bonus is you get to look at the ducks and swans on your way out to the town centre. This is a long thin car park which runs alongside the bus station and right up to where the shops start at the Debenhams end of town.Downstairs you can park on a short term basis whilst upstairs is reserved for long stay ,like the car park close to TK Maxx at the other end. There are exits the length of the car park,it is light and you don't feel as closed in as in a multi storey car park. I much prefer it.

This is my car park of choice when visiting the city, simply because it is cheaper than its neighbouring car parks and there are always spaces available. The charges are reasonable too charging customers £3.40 for three hours and £3 after 6pm as long as you are out by 2am. On Sundays it's a mere £3 all day - bargain! Car park operates 24 hours too! Its big and ugly but it does the job ok, navigation is simple and its right on top of the mailbox so its nice when dining out. I was even sarcastically quipped "you don't HAVE to park here you know" by staff when I queried this at the entrance on my return. I have paid for 24hrs parking and should be allowed to park here for 24hrs. Unbelievably cynical money making.

As car parks go it's pretty reasonably priced with a flat £2.50 fee for evenings (although you could argue it should be free at this time). It's also 24 hour although you can only stay for a max of 24 hours so don't get any ideas about moving in! The only problem is walking up the stairwells late at night can feel creepy, especially if you are walking out alone to you car parked on the roof as it does feel very desolate and the security men are not very visible. They are really helpful if your ticket gets stuck though. And they've tried to brighten up the stairwells with some cool graffiti art. It can be a nightmare getting out of here after a big sell-out gig though so I recommend parking as close to level 8 as poss as they have a separate exit straight out onto Colston Parade.
