    Truffle Mac n Cheese: $23.00
    Paul V.

Szimpia advertises itself as being a casual, comfortable, and affordable spot for good ole' fashioned comfort foods with a contemporary twist, and they do that exceptionally well. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Conveniently located within striking distance of the airport, Szimpia has abundant seating for one and all, and they were easily able to accommodate our party of 20 following a business function. Fast and friendly, the service was well up to snuff and the drinks kept flowing in abundance. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $23.00 for mac and cheese eh? That portion had better be... oh my... The photo below might not do it justice, but this was a truly unbelievable portion of mac and cheese topped with abundant greens, mushrooms, bread crumbs. To answer your question yes, I ate the entire portion, and yes, I hated myself for a full 24 hours afterwards. Prices and portions of other dishes were well in line with my mac and cheese, and all in all there's some exceptional value here at Szimpia. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Was this the best mac and cheese I've ever had? It wasn't, but it was close to being the best I've had outside of the United States. The pasta and cheese were both well portioned and with good consistency, but the flavor was just a tad bit lacking. The 'truffle' flavor advertised wasn't quite there despite the abundant mushrooms in the dish, but even so the flavor was good, and I really liked the greens for an addition. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? From what I'm hearing Szimpia is the best meal within striking distance of AKL, and my experience backs that up. Star Granted.

Stand back coffee club cause you just got owned, we all know and love food from cafe/pubs but this one takes the crown ! I went to here with my boyfriend and GURRLLLLL was it amazing or "amaze balls" For starter we had the salt and pepper calamari and a mini meat lovers pizza and man did we finish that fast !! The calamari was beautifully seasoned and damn that salad on the side tasted fine !! It complimented well to the aoli that was on the side. I give it a 9/10 (because there's always room for improvement like more sauce lol) that meat lovers pizza was lovely the base wasn't too hard and you could taste the tomatoes and all of the herbs that was on top it was simple but satisfying ! On to the mains !! We both had the burger, boyfriend has beef and I had the chicken and man I think the burger was the size of my face !! we both decide it have to cut it in half cause you know... Why not be fancy ? The fries on the side were really nice, i prefer crispy shoe string fries and I wish you could choose between the options but then again I wish all restaurants gave me that option But overall the atmosphere and food was amazing and we both had an amazing time. The damage however (the bill) was very hefty but it was a once a while kinda meal and the hosts were amazing Good job guys !! I recommend this place to anyone whose wanting to eat before their flight or just wanna have a random date Stay chill and nomnomnomnom

Cute place. Service was great! I got the beef burger and that was excellent especially for the price. Boyfriend got the lamb shanks over chickpeas which were meh and for the price, this dish was a bit disappointing, but that wouldn't deter us from coming back. Food display was very nice and the ambiance is nice and casual. We sat in the patio on a rainy day which provided a nice romantic atmosphere.

We landed at an unearthly hour and were staying at Ibis hotel. Majorly jet lagged and hungry, thanks to Yelp, found this place for lunch. Had the veggie burger and the chicken burger. Not the best burgers we've had but loved the unique beetroot flavor.

Pork Belly was amazing! Drinks were great. Music is good not over powering. Service was alright.

Stop here for lunch based on yelp reviews. It's more a bar than a restaurant. It was 2 pm on a Monday, and the place was pretty empty. Wait staff was preparing the place for the evening, but were nice, friendly and attentive. This is a large restaurant with outside seating. It was a cold, cloudy day so i sat inside next to a large window. I ordered the beef cheek stew for $25 (one of the more expensive items on the menu) and it came fairly quick. The dish came with mash potatoes and broccoli. Tasty and well done. A bit too much salt but still good. Nice place. Only complaint is the loud background music, but that's part of the atmosphere.

Very good food in a relaxed atmosphere, at least in the afternoon, although I could see it being more hectic in the evening.

What I don't expect is getting served an awesome steak on (what appeared to be self-made) mashed potatoes with a side of salad for 20 (!!!)$. Blown away. They also had a nice weekly schedule and we were able to come see the open mic night. Great way to entertain your guests. Check it out everybody!

I'll admit, I had never heard of Portland Public House before this weekend (I've just moved back from overseas....gimme a break!) but now that I have I imagine I will be back here on the reg. It has this hard-to-beat, carefree atmosphere, which makes it ideal for chewing the fat with friends on a lazy afternoon. Not to mention, the staff seem genuinely chuffed when you tell them you love the place, and the food is fresh and delicious. When we went we sampled the crumbed prawns, the fish sliders served with a liberal smothering of tartare sauce, wedges with lashings of sour cream and chives and fall-of-the-bone ribs served with a rustic slaw. Whilst the dishes weren't overly complicated they were packed full of flavour and had been prepared with care. Apparently they have a lot of gigs here too - the details of which can be found on their FB page - but personally, I am just hanging out for another sunny weekend so I can while away the hours on that back deck of theirs!

The bar looks welcoming and cozy from the outside with soft lighting, wood features, big picnic style tables, and exposed metal. Inside is also well planned with tables of various sizes, bar seating, and an open kitchen. On my last visit I got to come here twice and had excellent service with bartender/manager Nick. Cheers to owner Ewen as well, great to meet the team! On my first visit on a sleepy weekday afternoon, I got a flight (choose 8 beers) and a few singles. They have a great selection that focuses on independent New Zealand breweries. They even have nitro and cask hand pull selections, plus a great selection of cans and bottles either to-go or if there's something you really want to enjoy there. Clean restrooms are at the back. On my first visit I had a hearty lunch of fish and chips, which went great with the beer. Light and heavy at the same time. The kitchen was closed on my second visit, but if that happens while you're here there are tons of other great options nearby for food. On the weekend, this place gets busy, loud, and happy. Both experiences were worth the trip. For people that haven't visited lately, it's new ownership and staff so it's worth your time to try it again. If you're a fan of beer, this is a must-stop in Auckland.
