Correcting the issue required a change of venue, which cost me significant time and money for an error that was not mine. Communication throughout the case was inconsistent. At times, staff were responsive and reassuring; at other times, follow-up emails went unanswered and seemed to fall through the cracks. When I informed the firm that the opposing party was making threatening communications, my concerns did not appear to be taken seriously. After deciding to retain new counsel, I was surprised by how aggressively this firm interacted with my new attorney during the transition. Even more concerning, when my case files were transferred, I was mistakenly sent documents belonging to a different client. This raised serious concerns about their internal controls and confidentiality practices. I was also charged approximately $600 for work the firm claimed had been completed but which was never included in the file transfer. When I requested a refund, I was told the work had been done and that I would need to absorb the cost, despite having to pay my new attorney to redo it. Based on my experience and the information I have since uncovered as the court-appointed successor trustee, I have serious concerns about how these individuals worked together and how my family's trust assets and real estate properties were handled. For nearly ten years, I believe I was deprived of distributions and beneficiary rights while significant decisions were being made concerning valuable family properties. I was not provided the transparency, accounting, or meaningful explanations that I believe were required. I have particularly serious questions about the transactions involving 2057 and 2061 North Los Robles Avenue, the sale proceeds, property valuations, distributions, and the handling of my family's real estate interests. I also believe my right of first refusal was not properly protected. My concern is that the combined actions and decisions of these attorneys helped facilitate the loss and disposition of family property and assets without the transparency and beneficiary protections I expected. From my perspective, the result was that my family lost control of valuable real estate holdings while I spent years trying to obtain answers and recover what I believe was rightfully mine.
