We just bought a new home that had popcorn ceiling in the bedrooms and wanted to get it removed before we moved in; however, we got keys on Friday evening and moved in Saturday afternoon. I requested a quote from System 1 Interiors to remove the popcorn ceiling from my family room and hall and paint. With a smooth finish. Richard was very nice and professional. But eventhough I know he would do a professional job. I felt his price was very high. My family room is not very large. His quote was $3,300. And if my ceiling needed a primer it would cost an extra $250.! I have a copy of his estimate. So the one thing I didn't know about mold remediation is that the insane cost of doing it does not include replacing any drywall that gets cut out. So left with glaring holes where my wall used to be I needed to find someone for the job. Thanks to Yelp I found System 1 Interiors. I contacted them and got in touch with the owner, Richard. He was able to quickly get a walkthrough done and I was put on schedule. Maybe not as quickly as I wanted but they do a lot of major corporate jobs and I had a good feeling as I could see he was very detailed so I knew this was his job. The man wrecking crew, Pedro, came through and in two days my walls were whole again. I was blown away how close the new texture came to the old one. Pedro was super clean with everything too. Great job! Specialist arrived on time. Fixed the wall in my bathroom by ripping out ancient, crusty plaster and replaced with drywall. Then went on to fix various holes and dents in my backhouse. I had been planning for a while on removing the popcorn ceiling, adding recessed lights and have ceiling painted to restore smooth surface. I shopped around for two weeks, got quotes from five companies, read a lot about popcorn ceiling, and found Richard's System 1 Interiors team seems to have the most promising work quality with good reviews. The texture options he offers and the look of LED lights all are what I want. I requested a quote through Angie's List and received a call from his team in a day. We set up an on site estimate right away. Richard was very knowledgeable and friendly and had all my questions answered. His rate is one of the best that I got quoted for. FYI if your house was build before or around the time when asbestos was banned for popcorn texture, Richard 's team can also take samples and have them tested. I immediately decided to move forward with him for this project at the end of the estimate. His electrician first added recessed lights on a Thursday, the next day popcorn ceiling was removed and light cloud texture was applied (almost the same as smooth texture!). Then the ceiling was left during weekend to dry and painters came in on Monday to finish the work. Everything was done within one week! This is awesome. Richard suggested the light cloud texture instead of perfectly smooth because my ceiling is not very flat and smooth will just expose all the imperfections. I'm glad I went with his suggestion and now really love the light cloud ceiling! His guys did a great job for everything---the lights, the popcorn removal and the paint---I'm very happy and satisfied. We recently contacted System One to have the acoustic removed from our ceilings. Richard, the owner, came out to survey the job and give us a quote. He was prompt, courteous, and very informative. The price for removal, plaster repair and refinishing and painting were fair and reasonable. He said the plaster ceiling was no problem, though other contractors had turned down the work because of the problems associated with it. The crew was on time, courteous, and very professional. Removal, repair and refinishing were completed in half a day and there was no dust or mess. Once the new finish was dry the painters came in and caulked and painted the ceilings. Richard at System 1 returned my initial call promptly. We had a complication with abatement coming in to their thing right in the middle of the job. Two trips were required. Richard did his best to minimize the extra trip charge and the homeowners were very happy as a result. Upon the inspection of the sample for ceiling texture, we wanted the 1970's look and System 1 delivered to a tee. The ceiling fan is from 1979 or so. It has the original lighting décor. We love the look and the price was fair for the top notch quality that was delivered by their friendly staff. We even received recommendations on how long to wait before mounting our 1968 "tension rod" lamp, which is a single vertical rod sprung between the floor and the ceiling. Three chandeliers swing out from the rod. Other tips for ceiling preservation were given. I will recommend this company to anyone in the future. read more

Because of the Yelp reviews, we asked System 1 Interiors to redo the ceiling in my office at home. They did the work while we were on vacation and I had my friend manage them. Their finished work needed much improvement, the ceiling was not evened out and had ridges. The plaster on the ceiling was inconsistent and not smooth, and the painting work that they did cracked and had to be redone and then cracked again. We asked Richard to come back and fix these flaws and six weeks later were still dancing with him to get him to come back --- doctor's appointments, cancellations, lateness. He finally came back today and told us that the ceiling is supposed to be uneven that this is part of being textured. This is news to me and probably anyone who wants their ceiling redone. He declined to fix his work which shows that he is not an honorable businessman and also that he did not want the additional work that could be done in our house. It is unfortunate that my review on yelp is negative, and a real warning to those of you that want a professional job, with professional follow up and someone who will work with you to make sure you are happy. I actually found this company through a referral. Since I saw the work firsthand in someone else's home it was a no brainer to have them give me a bid. Great company to work with. Richard came out to give us a bid. I was really impressed with the way he explained everything, you can tell he takes great pride in his work. His guys showed up on time and were very meticulous in tarping everything off. They cleaned everything up nicely as well. I was pleasantly surprised when they finished the work in one day.
