It's a…read morelarge, well-designed indoor play area with many different sections for kids to explore and a lot of potential. We attended an "Eat and Play with Elmo" event, and unfortunately the experience fell short, especially given the $40 price. Parking is very limited, and the event felt oversold and overcrowded. The heat was not working, and with temperatures below 30 degrees outside, it was barely warmer inside. Most conversations among parents were about how cold everyone was, and many adults and children kept their coats and hats on the entire time. If the heat wasn't working, the event really should have been rescheduled. There were also safety concerns. The gate separating the play area from the rest of the space was not functioning and remained open the entire time. While I was putting away our shoes and diaper bag, my daughter slipped into the play area, which was unsettling. The Elmo costume itself looked great and was very realistic, but the character interaction was a major disappointment. The person inside the costume seemed disengaged and unhappy to be there. Elmo mostly stood in one spot and did not interact warmly with the children. There were no hugs, no pats on the back, and very little acknowledgment of the kids beyond an occasional half-hearted wave. For an event centered around meeting Elmo, the lack of enthusiasm and interaction was especially disappointing. Other moms I spoke to noticed the same thing The space itself is lovely, but for a $40 "Eat and Play with Elmo" event, this experience fell short of expectations.

I was told they didn't test at a high enough percentile out of 96%, total BS. I must admit I was angry, but luckily both of my children were accepted into a better more diverse school. No child's needs a school were the faculty shrug their faces up at children visiting and are only out for money with fees combined with fees.. Now, on the other hand, I have had two brothers go through the Special Education program and have watched time and time again as the program failed my brothers. The school district misdiagnosed my little brother saying that he had ADD and so prescribed him adderall when, in reality he was dyslexic. Anyway, I think they need to develop their Special Ed programs. The school district is in need of good Special Ed teachers who bring the education to the students in a non-traditional way. I loved Robbins Lane, loved HBT and loved SHS. I thank God for the experiences I had at these schools. They made me the person I am today.

SCSD prepares you along every step of the way, and especially to be a success in, and out of the classroom. Their curriculum is challenging, yet allows even the average student to reach their potential. They also offer the most AP/advance placement classes that I know of. I myself took 12 AP courses throughout my high school career, and I can attest that their standards help you prepare for college. Their sports, among other activities allow for well-rounded students come graduation day. The fine arts program is also extremely well funded, and allows for students to pursue their interests. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Syosset's teachers are paid higher, our taxes are higher, and our superintendent gets paid too much, but results come at a cost. I cannot speak about the Special Education programs as I have no personal experience with them, but for the average student going through Syosset, the results speak for themselves. A shout out to the Girls Varsity Tennis Team which has won Long Island Championships for 3 years in a row! Rock on girls, make me proud :)

The school is incredible. I will be sending all my children there after only one year of my son going. Class sizes are small, STEM is a major focus, teachers are qualified, and expectations are high.. both academically as well as conduct standpoint. Staff/Admin/Teachers are among some of the most caring and friendly you will meet. When taking a tour led by 8th grade students, I was blown away by the maturity, confidence and composure of these 12/13 year olds. This year, my family had the misfortune of dealing with the diagnosis of a serious illness that I received. When notified, the amount of support and love that my family received was incredible. They offered before/after care... they gave cell phone numbers etc... The community atmosphere there is incredible. All that said, its not for everyone. As mentioned above there are expectations, there is religion and morals, and if your children need to be reprimanded for poor behavior, then they will provide that as well. We have found that most other parents that have a hard time following the rules are the ones who seem to have the most "problems"... The doors open at a certain time for a reason. The children are let out a certain way, for a reason. They ask for certain snacks not to be sent to school for a reason... And it seems the parents who have to complain the loudest about these rules, rather than just accepting them as part of enrollment in this school, perhaps should consider a different school. We have found that being cooperative, following the rules and being personable has lead to a fantastic experience. In my business, if my clients are difficult to work with, they have a much different experience than those who are a pleasure to work with.

Both of my daughters have been in TRS for the nursery, pre-k and Kindergarten programs. They were received with kindness and warmth. Also, public school just as catholic schools are not babysitting services. There is a time that students are expected to be in school and released from school. On another note, The academics are by far high, the teachers are fantastic and the curriculum is rigorous. This is everything that embodies a dynamic school. Truly, look no further if you and your family are looking into Catholic Education. You will not be unhappy.

I am sharing my personal experience regarding Laura Kang during her tenure as Head of School at…read moreEast Woods. The most important consideration in any school decision must always be the child. Children deserve an educational environment where their academic progress, emotional well-being, social development, confidence, and sense of belonging are protected above all else. My child attended East Woods from nursery, and my greatest concern has always been the impact on my child. In my experience, my child did not receive the level of support needed to truly thrive academically, socially, or emotionally. Important learning needs were not identified or addressed in a timely manner, and seeing my child struggle academically, including entering first grade without the reading foundation expected for that level, was heartbreaking. A child's education is about much more than tuition, enrollment, or attendance. It is about recognizing each child's individual needs, supporting their growth, building confidence, encouraging friendships, and ensuring that they feel valued and supported. During a difficult family situation, I believe my child's educational experience was negatively affected by decisions surrounding parental involvement. I was excluded from aspects of my child's school experience, and my understanding was that this occurred because the other parent, who was responsible for tuition payments, would not continue with the school unless I was excluded. Regardless of the circumstances between adults, the child should always be the priority. A school's responsibility is to protect the child's academic progress, emotional well-being, social development, and relationship with supportive parents whenever possible. My concern is that children from families experiencing divorce or separation deserve the same level of care, neutrality, and advocacy as every other child. No child should lose opportunities for support, connection, or a sense of belonging because of adult disagreements. Parents place enormous trust in school leadership. They deserve transparency, fairness, and a commitment to putting children first. Families should feel confident that concerns are heard, learning differences are recognized, and decisions are made based on what is truly best for the child. I encourage parents to ask questions about how a school handles learning needs, parental involvement, and difficult family situations. If other families have experienced concerns regarding communication, educational support, or their child's school experience, I encourage you to document your experiences and seek appropriate guidance. No child should lose opportunities to learn, grow, feel supported, and thrive because of circumstances beyond their control. The child must always come first.

And that the same boy smacked him on the head on a prior occasion. I immediately informed his teacher . She asked who. My son said he already left, was wearing green. I informed his teacher the same and she blew me off that everyone is wearing green. On October 4, 2023, I arrived early to the schools outdoor playground to pick my son up. I caught on video the boy standing around waiting for my son to come out. And then attack him repeatedly, which my son blocked. I immediately told what I saw, to which she replied that she had kept them apart. On October 5, 2023, I showed her the video and she said she would contact the boy's mother. On October 6, 2023, teacher told me the boy's mother, did not like that I videotaped the boy. No apology or anything. Even if it was a stranger, the parent would at least apologize, but she didn't. On October 23, 2023, is when I first discovered who the bully's mother is because previous to that I did not see his mother accompany him. I ran into the boy's mother, in the hallway and confronted her about her son bullying my son. She refused to talk to me at all, went straight to the teacher, who then went to get the head of the school, all sat in a room and discussed what happened, I doing all the talking of what happened. Bully's mother just said she didn't have time for this and then left. Head of the school said I could get a refund. I said I wanted a mediation with the bully's parents.. Head said she is not a mediator but she will try to arrange one. On October 27, 2023, head met with me and informed me that they refused to mediate. She further tried to convince me to stay saying many nice things about how I am the type of parent that this school wants. She gave me her private number. On various occasion in November 2023, bully's mother regularly passes me and and my husband by. She gives me dirty looks. One time when my husband picked up my son and she picked up hers, then she said to bully: "Don't go near those people." I am Chinese by the way. On December 20, 2023, head emailed me a letter terminating my son from the school for allegedly cursing at bully's mother--which I did not do. Bully's mom is a snob and the school is elitist.
