I don't know where such reviews come from, because as a fairly new parents at The Bridges Academy and parents of a multicultural child who is in a class where at least half of the children are of other cultures and color, I completely disagree. Bridges is a multicultural school in every sense of the word. My child's best friend is a child that looks nothing like him and they see no differences in each other. They are friends end of story. They are old enough to know (double digit age). I knew at that age but that was a different time I guess. Yes, Academics are of upmost importance at the Bridges Academy, just as in many other schools, but Bridges goes further. Bridges teaches character, community, compassion, culture, and confidence. Bridges has an academic and cultural curriculum that surpass any other school I have ever known. I know this because I do work for schools (public and private) as a consultant, so I have some insight here. I couldn't have chosen a better school for my child. It is a school that actually celebrates differences. So the comments are baffling to me. I must pass that off as; and maybe disgruntled. My child is happy here, since day one, and was accepted by all and he does look different. He is not ever bored in class and is academically challenged everyday at Bridges. He is emerged in art, music, languages and more. Of course not all days are perfect, they are kids after all, but the few not so perfect days have never, ever been discriminatory related; usually test score related when he knew he should have studied. So I disagree to any comments in regards to discrimination. Do they have high expectations of our children academically?... Definitely. Do they discriminate?... Not one bit! My child did well on his entrance exam and shadow days, so the lack of blue eyes and blond hair certainly didn't hurt him. read more

I'm very surprised at the bad review particularly around the topic of diversity. We are very pleased with the Bridges Academy and were especially drawn to having our children attend a school with diversity. In addition, they provide a forward thinking learning environment and one of the unique aspects is as a K through 8 school they focus on creating a camaraderie amongst all of the students. They even meet every morning together so all of the students know one another and interact together throughout the year. With all of the issues today around bullying and things like this it's nice to see even the older students participating in things helping the younger ones, or preparing oral presentations together, saying hello to each other, and just having a great overall positive school spirit displayed when you're there. The subjects they offer beyond the basics is great as well. It is true that many parents are involved with the board and parents' association but I think that's a positive draw as well for parents and their kids. read more

Oh wow--I'm really surprised by the above review. I'm African-American and have two kids at Bridges, and this could not be further from our or our kids' experience. For sure the school could be a bit more diverse, but increasing diversity is something that is important to the administration and board, and I've seen their efforts in working toward continually improving in that area. My husband and I had concerns about sending our children to a predominantly white, affluent school, as we did not want our children to experience the ostracism of racism or classism--and we check in with them often to ensure that they are not--but I have to say despite our initial concerns and expectations otherwise, we've been nothing but pleased with their experience at the Bridges Academy--and with our experience as a family. We chose Bridges--and stay at Bridges--specifically because of the community, and frankly, we're darned proud to be a part of it. read more

The Bridges Academy is a wonderful learning and loving environment for children. Both my children have attended the school and are now successfully acclimating to HS. The small classroom sizes and care and concern given to the children from teacher and staff are excellent. I have been a teacher for 15 yrs in a preschool that services children with special needs and it was important for me to find a school that would give my children the individual attention I believe should be expected in the classroom. The Bridges staff and teachers are by far the best of the best. They recently hosted an alumni basketball game and both my boys attended with at least 2 dozen other college and HS student that have already graduated because they love their memories and still feel at home there. If I was a parent of a young child I would do it all again. My boys are thriving academically and are just good respectful young men. GREAT SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!! read more

This school is just opening up in Long island and has already filled up. Its teachers are amongst some of the best and its Headmaster, Frank Fallon is well known. The school is from prek-8th with a very nice nursery program. All students have to take French and Mandarin and do higher grade math and readings. Class sizes are 12-15 per teacher. The school is an ethical school with teachings of world religions and spirituality. This is where you send your kids if you want them to be global citizens and make it to great high schools and ivy league college. we LOVE the school. The outside playgrounds need some work, but we hear this summer major renovation will take place on the playgrounds. read more

Just took the tour of the building and very excited that my daughter will have a new home to attend. Air conditioned library, indoor playground, outdoor playground, computer lab, greenhouse, the list goes on and on. The Iowa testing is ideal with the small class size allowing each teacher to teach to know their strengths and teach to those strengths. It was great to hear the alumni students speak about how it's cool to be smart around these kids. read more

We searched far and wide to find a top-tier private school for our daughters on the South Shore and were thrilled to find The Bridges Academy offering a curriculum that far exceeds the norm on so many levels. This is a terrific new international private school on the South Shore. The curriculum is very innovative with an open collaborative and interactive approach to teaching. The school has a strong focus on foreign languages especially French and mandarin and has an award winning approach to teaching mathematics, technology and robotics. read more

I am a current parent at Bridges and my children are a minority and we have never experienced any racism at our school. We chose Bridges for its diversity and nurturing environment.
