Looks like a great gym. Wish it was open to a larger community, even as a paid membership!

Pluses: very low monthly price for basic membership. But it kinda stops there…read more Minuses: I am an older guy, so I really don't enjoy loud rap at 7AM with the f-word and other bad language and sexual or violent stuff in it. Just sounds like profanity and people banging on garbage cans. Every early morning that I go, the music is too loud, even overwhelming the noise cancellation feature in my Air Pods. I look around, and EVERYONE is wearing ear pods or headphones. And yet the front desk tells me that they are getting requests to turn the volume up. Which I truly doubt. Strangely, this is not an issue at the San Jose location. Just Sunnyvale. In the mornings, there can be HITT classes and the instructors play the music painfully loud on their own portable sound system. Normally, there is a separate, walled room for this (San Jose Crunch), but not in Sunnyvale. So we all suffer from the ear-banging. There is an overabundance of treadmills which I have never seen full, but only one cable machine for shoulder workout, which is either broken or full-time occupied. Only two free-weight bench press benches, typically full. Only two portable benches in the weight area, typically full. For about two years, I have asked to have the men's shower controls repaired; you set the temperature handle, and it slowly drifts to scalding. A plumber could fix this in about 10 minutes. At least two conversations with the manager about this, and no repairs. Also, one or both shower soap dispensers is typically empty or broken. The worst is when I get attitude from the front desk staff. I ask for something (like non-rap music) and I get lots of reasons why I can't have it. And that kind of smile that really says "screw you, you can't make me do it." I don't know if the budgets are zero here, or if the management just doesn't care, but something really is not right. Almost every other club I have been to is more positive, helpful, clean, functional, and courteous. And at other clubs, I typically have no problem getting in contact with the manager. Here, it has been a challenge.

There is never judgment from the staff or the people who work out. I love them all. I am proud to call this gym my gym and I'm so happy to be part of this community. Are the equipments best in class? No. But I will come here because of the people and honestly - to be fit all you need are free weights, cardio equipment, and a little help from your friends. The trainers are always so helpful and the manager, Nico is so fun and friendly. For training I recommend Edwin. He has the most transformative training I've ever seen. I have seen his clients transform to their goal body. He takes his job seriously, corrects you while training and understands that proper form is key. He's given me tips and has also helped me transition my training to something suited and better for me and I've seen changes in the way my body respond! So- kudos to Edwin! The front desk staff from Chloe, Mayra, Lance, Andy, and Rishi are so approachable and always there with a smiling face. Jose Luis - the trainer's manager is also super helpful! Sometimes- it isn't about the equipment - it is about the people you surround yourself with that genuinely roots for you that makes a place a second home. Yes, this is my second home. I am here daily and lose days twice a day.

Even then, I think peak hours aren't as bad as other gyms. Kind of bummed I have to cancel since I'm moving away. Now I have to find another gym I also had scheduled some personal training since I was struggling with consistency working out. I trained with Michael D and he was a great coach. He put me on a program that's repeatable and easy to add on to. I definitely recommend scheduling some personal training with him

EDIT AS OF SEPTEMBER 20th: The manager emailed me and the AC…read morewas fixed shortly after these reviews went up (less than a day later, hmmmm...), so I will change it back to 4 stars because...again, this is my gym and I love spending time here! But moving forward, there will hopefully be something in place to protect the attendees from heat related illness in the summer. Other regulars have told me this happens every year during heat waves and have also complained about it. Going forward, don't wait for bad reviews and attendee complaints before something is done. Some folks aren't afraid of going to corporate. ORIGINAL: This is my gym and I spend a lot of time here attending lots of classes, so this makes me really upset to have to change my review, but I don't think anyone will listen otherwise. The AC in the group fitness room has been broken off and on the last two weeks, to finally break completely on Monday. Two weeks ago, I had symptoms of heat stroke from trying to push through one of the classes during this heat and almost went to the hospital. I talked with the front desk about the dangers of heat sickness, especially since most people who attend the classes are elderly. I said that if the AC is not going to be working in that room, we really shouldn't be having class. My thermometer I brought stated the room was 90 degrees, not even counting everyone's body heat. The AC has been broken all this week and nobody knows anything about when this will be repaired. It went from "maybe" being fixed from Tuesday, to Wednesday, and now to "maybe" next week. Meanwhile, the instructors have to be up there in a sometimes 70 person class (of mostly elders) in 90 degrees with no air. Opening all the doors does absolutely nothing. This is a dangerous health hazard. One wall fan isn't going to cut it. We need someone to actually care and have backup generators or at the very least, a tech on site to repair things like this. Meanwhile, front desk is nonchalant and giving us the run around because the AC works perfectly fine everywhere else BUT the group fitness room. I get there's certain things you can't help, but you need to at least have something there as a backup to ensure attendees are safe. I can no longer attend the classes I love due to being susceptible to heat illness. People are in danger of doing cardio in 90 degrees. It just is not acceptable.
