Actually the worst vet. We've been going here for years and before they were all about money, they actually seemed to care. We took our cat here and did a bunch of tests and he was ok but had some sneezes. Took him in for a follow up bloodwork a few months later and his ALT liver enzyme was over 600. We saw doctor Pam who recommended shots and a CT scan as "top line treatment" because immediately they thought it was a congenial issue. Spent money on the Ct scan and it was negative but his liver enzymes were still going up. NOT ONCE did they start any treatment but they sure did run more tests. All negative and NOT ONCE did doctor Pam recommend any type of plan other than a $5000 invasive biopsy on our 1 year old cat. The enzymes went up over 1000 and I went online and found out info about steroids on my own since nothing was being done and asked Doctor Pam, who insisted we HAVE to do a biopsy and she had the nerve to say steroids might inflame his liver and it would be too much to give him steroids...but a full liver biopsy is fine? Ok. We got a second opinion and this new vet who actually cares about animals over money started him on an empirical treatment immediately and now his liver enzymes are back to normal a month and a half later...with a steroid called Prednisolone that bypasses the liver anyway. I feel so frustrated. For one, I'm mad she didn't even try to start him on anything, no treatment plan at all cuz they knew we loved this baby and would pay to help him. They messed with our vulnerability. For two, we paid a ton of money thinking we were trusting someone who actually cared, and for three and maybe the most aggravating and upsetting part, we put our little cat through so much and so many treatments because THIS VET told us it was needed it...and almost put him through a biopsy for no reason. Shame on you and the whole practice for valuing money over animals. Go to a vet who actually cares. Doctor Pam and this horrible place only care about your money and not your babies. Never again. The only thing they did do was help us with insurance because God knows they want their money. Unbelievable. Go to Village Oak or Waterford Vet or Animal Medical instead of this money hungry practice. We are lucky we actually still even have our little baby after this. read more

Whenever we go to the vet, it's usually not for a good reason unless you were just going for shots. I unfortunately had to put my dog down a few weeks ago. It was later in the day and Sylvan was the only one who was welcoming and made us an appointment that same day at about 4 PM. On a Saturday. Everyone was very nice when we arrived, and they made the entire process the best it could be under that situation. The staff were really friendly, helpful, and compassionate. I'm really disappointed in the service that we received. Today we had a dying cat in front of our house which is a stray. He looks so out of and our heart was breaking for him. I called a few vets. The first one I called was Sylvan, which I have brought my dog here numerous times I spoke with someone and asked them if they did euthanizing for stray animals that were in pain and dying, and they told me no that the finder would have to pay for all the costs they do not do any Good Samaritan services... and for that reason in itself I will not be bringing any of my animals here. I called village oak and they seen us straight away put the kitten down and were so kind not to charge... they said he has liver failure, assessed him before laying him to rest. I don't trust vets who only care about money and not the well being of an animal read more

Dr. Hart was absolutely amazing to my Frenchie Tank. I took my dog in with BOAS, and needing a pretty big surgery on his nose, throat and being fixed. She gave us the best reassurance we needed, explained how the operation would happen and the recovery process. My dogs surgery went perfect. He is home and resting. They have sent me text messages 2-3 times a day checking on him. Also, the Vet is clean and doesn't smell like dirty animals like most of the other vets. I'm distraught having to write a poor review for this place. I've used this place for many years now, with multiple of my pets and up until now had a pleasant experience. let me start by saying they are VERY FRIENDLY and kind to my animals. However, I feel the pricing has grown outrageous and upon scheduling TOO discrete with pricing and cost for procedures. A few months ago, I had to put my dog of 13 years down. At that time I obviously was not concerned with cost, would you be? he was sick and reaching the end of his life. without a thought I paid the 1500+ dollar vet bill to do so. Today, I brought my 7mo cat in to do a "consultation" appointment for a spay. no one would disclose how much this "consultation" would cost over the phone they led with "we don't know until we do a check up" my cat has never been in contact with other animals, not an outside/inside cat, strictly indoors. Anyway this consultation resulted in blood work, and Vaccines. Feeling like I came in for one thing, and left with a $380 bill. I was also given a billing statement estimated up to $1000 for a spay, AFTER already paying for a 400 consultation on vaccine (which was "required" for them to even begin the spay procedure). while I understand this was explained and documented for me, I still think this is outrageous and this business prays on people who are willing to pay more for good animal care. Like I said everyone there is great, however I think they need to be more transparent on consultation pricing and matching what other clinics offer. If I would have known how much I would have even POSSIBLY had to pay I would have went elsewhere. I write this post not to shame the business but to advice anyone who is looking for AFFORDABLE, REASONABLE, pet care to keep looking, this is not the place. Every bill will be 300-1000+, if u got it good for you, if u want something more reasonable looking somewhere else. Go up to the counter at 10:45 and was told by the girl that I'd have to wait another 40 min to be seen. For puppy shots? Went to Sylvan Vet for over 20 years. Always loved it. Not anymore. This place is all about making money. They do not care about you or your pets. I quit going last year, with the new office girls being rude and uncaring, not intelligent enough to answer questions, or even understand the questions. The Vets all too busy. Only can get a Urgent care appointment. Loved Dr. Tiffany Cardoza Hart. Until she got too busy. Didn't return my calls or even have time to check her voicemail. I started going to Monte Vista Vet. But the other day my cat was sick and Sylvan Vet is only 10 minutes away. So I decided to try it. Went to a 10:30 Urgent care appointment for $90. The Vet says she would have to sedate my cat to check him, take bloodwork and urine sample and I could pick him up in a few hours. I agreed to pay $550. They left my scared stressed cat in his crate for four hours, while the vet was busy with Urgent care appointments. He had diarrhea all over himself and crate. When I called and got angry the vet decided to finally do the tests. Today my Cat is still sick I called thinking I could get a X-ray like the vet mentioned. But they wanted me to pay for another $90 for a urgent care appointment first. I decided I would go to Monte vista vet. I asked for them to send the records over, of course they didn't and are now closed. I do not recommend Sylvan vet. So do not take your pets there. They are greedy and uncaring. They do not provide quality care for the pets. I will not go there again. Edit: Someone named Jennifer called me. Saw my bad review on Facebook on their page. Thought she wanted to try to make things right or apologize. Just argued and wanted to prove me wrong like I was on trial or something. At the end, she wanted me to say I wouldn't be back. She kept pressing. Saying you are unhappy with us, and want us to send your cats records somewhere else. So does that mean you are not coming back. I said I can't tell the future we might have a emergency with one of outlet pets. But she kept pressing. Finally I said, ok, I won't be coming back! Very rude. I have been trying to get through to this place for days and when you hit the correct number from there recording it just gos to the recording again. Also there prescription pricing is double what others charge. I am not getting good service at all from Dr.Lin. she at first did well and even called a few days later to check on my Dog but now no apology on running out of meds and no way to reach them and now they gave me a prescription I can get filled . Do to the manner it was written. This has cost me much aggravation and time off my job. Not at all happy . Will be going elsewhere . After all of this.. answer your phones people. read more

I called at the end of July to get a flea pill, one pill, and was told I couldn't order it until Aug 8 that's when my pet was due for one. I called Aug 8 and placed the order. Today, Aug 21, I still haven't got the text saying g it was ready. I tried calling 3 times and the first 2 calls as I was on hold the call dropped. The 3rd call I finally talked to Jodie who said a pill was ready in July! WHAT!?!? This, along with other issues, is the reason I do not recommend this Vet. We have been patients for 15-17 years, and have always been happy/satisfied, the customer service was always top notch. However when I have needed an appointment recently for my dog they are automatically referring us to Sylvan emergency because they are too full/booked/busy. In the past they would always ask what's going on with my dog and talk with the doctor before turning us away. Very disappointing that they do not have this process in place any longer or that the receptionist can make the determination on their own to turn clients away. In addition my original doctor has left and the newer doctor is also gone now. read more

The office people are nice, the vets are nice. I was happy to pay for my dog's check up A few weeks ago...and when I was told he had a slight ear infection on one side, I was happy to pay for the anabiotic pack they put in his ear. They recommended I come back two weeks later just to make sure his ear had cleared up. I had no idea this follow-up appointment would cost me anything. I assumed the follow up was included in the original exam fee and anabiotic treatment fee- I wasn't told otherwise. After a 2 minute ear check, I was charged $50. I don't mind paying a small office visit fee but I thought $50 was a little steep. I paid less for vaccines when we were in Tracy! I understand inflation... But $50? Is that normal? For a quick recheck of an ear? Now I know to ask about the cost of everything before I go. I probably would've skipped this one since it was pretty straightforward and my dog was doing just fine. . Sylvan Vet needs to get it together with their phone systems and some receptionist. I absolutely dread calling. Anytime I call the call wait is ridiculous! I have to wait 10 and 20 mins at a time. Which I do understand there is other patients ahead of me. The problem is that this morning I call and I am told there is 4 patients ahead of me. Ok I will wait. Remind you I am returning Dr. Pam's phone call from last Thursday because she was out of office last Friday to discuss about my unwell dog. The phone rings back to the office after a 15 minute hold. The same girl picks up and asks me if I could hold again that there is 5 patients ahead of me. I reminded her that she told me only 4 patients 15 mins ago. She said yeah well we are hecka busy this morning. Really? I take 3 of my 4 animals there and spend buttloads of money in your office and expect better reception then I am receiving from these young ladies who answer these phones!! I am tempted to remove myself, and animals and go elsewhere for care. This has become the norm around there and I am becoming fed up! I am asking the owner to please fix this problem and get a better phone system. read more

The hardest thing to do is putting your fur-baby down and the love and care you have showed made it a little easier. Today I was not expecting this but I received a sympathy card with my girls paw prints and something to plant. Of course the water works from my eyes flooded the place. I took my pet cat of 10 years old to get blood work and vaccines updated. I asked 3 times not to get anesthesia or sedation because I already knew about the side effects of sedation. They had me sign a contract of adhesion, which means "They have the final say for sedation if needed for the safety of the staff and my pet!" I was tired from work and unfortunately I did sign for the sedation. I also originally asked for the 3 year vaccines, but the Doctor told me that I needed to get the 1 year because they have lower side effects. I replied ok let's get the 1 year. I received my pet back 3 hours later and she started looking loopy. They told me that is normal and for me to monitor her for 24 to 48 hrs for any changes. I also received the bill and it showed they administered the 3 year vaccines that they told me not to get! She passed the next day and they blamed me!! read more

Today the manager decided to call me to tell me we should part ways because they have not been able to meet my standards. She is absolutely correct. Everything that has went wrong is a reflection on the manager. First vet visit they miss a double ear infection during a Wellness exam - full on double ear yeast infection! Another visit they prescribed my dog's medication and they gave me too much for a couple dogs and not enough for others. So here I am under and over medicating - having to return for more medication because you know, I don't have a life. Your team really needs to get their act together. I take the health of my dogs very seriously and it seems like your team is very disorganized. I'm really disappointed in the nasty phone call I received today as if any of the above was my fault. I have every right to be upset and to be frustrated but I've kept my cool with every call and visit until today! If your calls are recorded - listen to them! I use to take my animals to this vet office because it was close to home. They're usually busy, quick with service, and a little pricey. That can be good or bad depending on your needs. I have 4 animals, and like to do annual check ups on them all. One of my cats has hyperthyroidism and needed to be tested to confirm if his medicine dosage was still effective, to be able to get more refills for the medicine. My male cat had already been seen at this office 3 times in the past year (has a file), and the office was verbally told as well as given medical diagnosis paperwork informing them of his hyperthyroidism diagnosis. I scheduled an appointment to have him tested to check what his thyroid levels were and to get a new prescription for his medicine. I explicitly asked if the test they were doing would provide thyroid results because this is what I need for the new prescription and was told they understood and provided pre-test care instructions (no food or water passed a certain time) and to give a sedative before coming in for their safety (normal for this male cat). I brought him in for his appointment, and it was done quick without issues (Cost = ~$200 for sedative and test). I received a call from the vet in a couple days to discuss the test results. The vet introduced herself and confirmed I was my cat's owner. The vet then informed me that my female cat's results were in and it looks like she has hyperthyroidism. However to be 100% sure they would like to run a test to check her thyroid levels again for comparison and asked if I wanted to get that scheduled (Cost= +$150). I informed the vet that my male cat does indeed have this diagnosis already (been about 2 years at this point), and that I'm not willing to pay for another test to receive a diagnosis he already has. We wrapped the call pretty quickly, and I haven't taken any of my animals back since. I highly recommend Ceres Veterinary Clinic or Standiford Veterinary Center over Sylvan Veterinary Hospital for your animal health needs. read more

I've always taken my dogs to this vet and really like Dr. Cardoza. I recently got a puppy and had been trying to schedule an appt for the past week but can't seem.to get anyone on the phone...I just sit there on hold until I give up after 15 or more minutes. I've also done an appt request online but no luck with anyone getting back to me. Absolutely AMAZING! I have 2 frenchies and one has been a little special since she eats rocks... took her in to be seen & they are so amazing. A little pricy but the level of care was worth it. Had an absolute horrid experience at another vet with my other dog & her puppies. Brought her here and the team again was amazing. Brought the puppies for a liter exam and it was fabulous. One of my pups has hydro head and I want to do everything possible for her. They were able to answer all my question and promised to do everything they can for her. We started treatment ( she was 4 weeks old) and now at 7 weeks it's been VAST improvement in her development. I am done! I was taking both my dogs here, but their front desk is a mess. The last 2 appointments I have waited over 40 mins to be seen, and this last time, I walked out. I watched people come and go and I wait and wait. Then the lady next to me mentioned her appt was 20 mins after mine. I asked again if I was next and told " we are getting a room" (2nd time told this), and then they call the girl next to me. How is 12:15 appt going before 11:45 and it's 12:25? Last time, I had a cast and used their "text option," and sat in my car and waited. Texted again and nothing. No one ever responded. I had to call back in, sit on hold, and let them know I had been sitting out there 30 mins waiting. And I had called in 30 mins before my appt to tell them I was coming but couldn't walk. They told me to use the "text option." And still had to wait another 15. If I am on time, then why can't they? If one of the many front staff had said, " I am sorry you're still waiting," it would have helped. But they just ignored me. Even when I asked " how much longer" the first time, you would think you would remember I AM STILL WAITING! This place is pricey, so I will go spend $ elsewhere. Saying " you're busy" is not an excuse. We are " all busy" and your time should not be more important than mine, especially when I am paying for it. If you're going to double book, then have courteous staff that can handle it. Pro- Your back office staff is great! read more

One of our cats became ill. We couldn't take her to our "old" (note the quotes) vet because there were not any appointments. So, first we took her to an emergency vet and waited and waited forever and could not be seen (they told us after waiting 4 hours that we would have to wait another 6-8 hours). It would have been cruel. We took her to our "old" vet this morning (again note the quotes) vet and waited and waited and became exasperated (it was an emergency but not a serious one). Serendipitously, a girl also waiting to be seen told us she usually uses Sylvan but couldn't afford them but she gave us the phone number and we called and THEY gratefully could see us. We weren't expecting much. But, what a fabulous difference. Dr. Hart is amazing. The wait was not long, the waiting room was clean and efficient and the vet was seriously the nicest vet we had ever seen. What a sensitive caring wonderful place. They took care of our cat and we liked it so much we immediately transferred care over for all of our cats to them from their "old" vet. I have never been happier with an animal hospital ... Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible! I cannot say that enough!!! The vets here are amazing but the MANAGEMENT is AWFUL!!!!!!!!!! The manager Vicky is so rude and does not care about any of the customers concerns! I have called and left so many messages for Vicky and have asked to speak directly to her about my concerns but she always has other people (Tina) doing her work for her and having Tina address my concerns. I have told Tina numerous times that I want to speak to Vicky directly and have her call me back and she has failed to do so! Caring for animals should not be any different than caring for humans and the lack of care Vicky has shown proves that she is in the wrong industry because she does not care about animals or humans!
