Dr Barlow gave him IV antibiotics and suggested I leave him hospitalized. On Saturday he was doing a bit better and Dr Barlow suggested he stay the weekend to continue treatment. But not in a cage at the office, but she TOOK HIM HOME so he would be more comfortable in a home environment and with her three dogs. Wow! That's dedication and compassion. I'm so glad they were open and available for my fur baby when I needed help.

Our Schnauzer mixedw breed suddenly became lethargic and wouldn't eat . Big alert with her. She eats everything in sight . Puppy vacuum cleaner. We were not satisfied with one of the vets at our chosen vet clinic. So on the recommendation of a friend we took Sweetheart to Dr Brian at City Small Animal Clinic he checked her over and gave her some medicine for nausea . Her temp was just a little elevated . He asked for some basic tests & sent her home . Next day she was more lethargic and seemed to be much sicker . He told us to get her in even though it was already past closing time. Her temp had risen 3 plus degrees over normal. He recommended over night stay and some tests . Each step he tells you the price . The tests were all normal but still not eating . We decided to leave her there and he was going to start IV fluids and antibiotics. Next morning Saturday he went down to check on her and she hadn't eaten yet. He went to a near be Whataburger and bought her some scrambled eggs and hand fed her. She ate it all. Next day on Sunday he & his wife went down and got her eggs again. Sweetheart loved his wife too. We brought her home Monday but is eating a little bit . Today Brian called me because he got the results that he did with my permission, in SF , CA . She has Leptospirosis. Not common but occurs in dogs . Can be contracted from polluted water , pollutants from animals such as squirrels which we have plenty of. Brian had me bring her down for blood test which we will do again in three weeks. To make sure kidneys & liver is normal. I breathed a sigh of relief even though we r not through treating her but we now no how to treat her! I give Dr. Brian 5 stars or whatever the max is.

They said they already looked at him and treated him and our bill is $76.50. They said maybe a fea caused his rash. He is a house cat and we hold him all the time. He does not have any fleas. We saw nothing they did for him. We never saw a vet these were just the people that help a vet we saw. Our cat still has a rash. When we left them before lunch they said it was $25.00 for the exam they did not tell us they were charging other charges with out telling us.

We have 10 cats and a dog. The doc and his staff have ALWAYS provided what I call above and beyond service to us. On two occasions, the doctor came in Friday or Saturday night to treat my cats that had been bitten by copperheads. On a third occasion, he waited at the office for an hour and a half after closing time because I was bringing in a kitten I found that had been hit by a car. I was sixty miles away when I called at 4:45. He said he would wait until I got there. He treated the kitten that night when I got there, and then kept her overnight, and came in again on Saturday to follow up. Last year, when one of my cats had cancer, we had to had him euthanized. At that time, Dr. Collins had been sick and his daughter, Dr. Alisa, was running the clinic in his absence. A few weeks after that, Dr. Alisa sent us a very nice sympathy card. She included a handwritten note saying that with our kitty's condition, we had made the difficult, but proper decision to euthanize him. We are very satisfied with both doctors and their entire staff. In fact, my wife bakes them a few dozen cookies now and then. We're seventy and have had lots of pets over our lifetimes. We have had the extremely good fortune to have three excellent vets in those years. The Collins family and their staff are right there at the top in terms of quality care for both the patient and the owner of the patient. When Doc Collins was there, he was/is an amazing…read moreveterinarian--kind, compassionate, and understanding, especially during the hardest moments of owning a pet. Over the years, he helped me say goodbye to several of my dogs, as well as dogs belonging to my mom and dad. He understood how difficult those moments were. He would even come out to my vehicle so I could hold them in my arms while they peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge. I will always be grateful to him for the compassion he showed our family. Unfortunately, since Doc Collins retired, the clinic no longer has that same hometown, compassionate feeling to me. Last week, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my 13-year-old dog to sleep. I knew my dog. I knew her age, her condition, her quality of life, and I knew in my heart that it was time. It was not a decision I made lightly. Instead of being met with compassion, I felt like I was being grilled and made to defend my decision. I was questioned about when she last had bloodwork, how long she had been "bloated" (she wasn't bloated--she was overweight), and how long she had been having problems with her hind legs. I was told that if they knew the results of her last bloodwork, the vet could tell me what was wrong with her. I wasn't there because I didn't care enough to find out what was wrong. I was there because I loved my dog enough to know when it was time to let her go. Putting down a pet you have loved for 13 years is already an incredibly difficult and emotional decision. The last thing someone needs in that moment is to be made to feel guilty for choosing euthanasia instead of additional testing. I understand that a veterinarian has a responsibility to make sure euthanasia is appropriate, and I respect that. But there is a compassionate way to have that conversation. I left feeling judged and guilty during a moment when what I desperately needed was a little kindness and understanding. I truly miss the hometown veterinary clinic Edom used to be and the compassion Doc Collins showed my family for so many years.
