I've been going to yard sales, flea markets, antique stores, auctions, and estate sales for 40+ years both in the US and abroad. I love treasure hunting; finding old, unique, and interesting items to keep, give as gifts, and sell. My friend and I love it so much, we go out faithfully each and every Saturday morning at just about the crack of dawn. I've met so many wonderful people and I can hardly recall a bad experience, until recently. Fawn Campbell, of Sydney B. Moore Estate Sales, ruined my (our) running record of fun and positive experiences. This is a seller whose sales we've attended for over a dozen years, who I've recommended to friends for their family's estates in the past... jobs she has taken. No longer!
When I shared my story with other "pickers" (as we're often called), they could already guess who I was referring to without me revealing her name. Our crime you ask... Are we thieves, kleptomaniacs? Did we break a valuable family heirloom? Did we have a fight with another picker over a treasure? Were we rude and obnoxious to anyone? No, we had a MINOR disagreement with Fawn over a stack of unmarked plates that were in the kitchen (as many things frequently aren't priced). How could we have possibly known that the plates were already sold? Honestly, that's the gist. End of story. Ridiculousness. The week after our disagreement, my friend and I showed up for another of Fawn's sales, when after 20 minutes of waiting in line, Fawn's "bouncer" pulled us out of the line to tell us we were no longer welcome at her sales, to leave immediately and never come back. Good riddance! read more
