Everyone working there was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. You could genuinely tell they enjoyed their jobs, and that made the whole experience even better. It also happened to be my husband's birthday that day, and we had such a wonderful time celebrating there. Great food, great service, and genuinely kind people. We're so glad this place was recommended to us and would absolutely return!

The bourbon salmon ($24.99) was fine, just a little dry. I liked the flavor of the mashed potatoes, but they were only luke warm. I substituted roasted carrots for the collard greens, but got charged 0.99 for it apparently. Service was fine. We arrived a bit early for our reservation and they said we would have to wait a bit, but then we were seated within a minute. Server was attentive to our table. She did notice after she brought my wife's wine to the table that it was incorrect. She left it and promptly got the correct one. Ambiance was fine. It's a large venue and the outdoor campus is pretty cool. We were seated in a booth. The booth itself seemed a tad worn. They also have a lot of glass on the west wall, which allowed the sun to shine in, but also made it a tad blinding when turning that direction. Overall, it was good, but not amazing. It is conveniently located to the music venue that is just a bit south of it across the highway.

We couldn't get a dinner reservation (busy Friday night), so we ordered drinks and food from the outdoor digital Terrace Menu. Cocktails and beer had big city prices: a seasonal 20 oz beer was a whopping $12.49 and a classic old fashioned was $13.99. Food prices were reasonable, but you get what you pay for: smash burgers were small, cooked until dry (med well with no way to specify preferred doneness when ordering), and $5 was a lot to pay for about 14 fries! We sat at a picnic table to eat, then moved to "amphitheatre" seating to listen to the music, which was provided by a typical small-venue band. Little kids were having a great time running around and dancing, but not many adults came to sit in that area. There's no dance floor space, which was disappointing. We enjoyed a walk around the pretty fall-decorated grounds at dusk, then stopped in the bottle shop, where we purchased cinnamon vodka. Since we hadn't done a tasting (which range in price from $25-$70/person), we didn't buy bourbon or whiskey. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but because of the high prices and lackluster food on the Terrace and mediocre reviews of the restaurant, I'd say once was enough.

Truly, Hobnob Corner has a great wine list. This is the restaurant to visit in downtown Nashville…read moreif you want a nice glass of wine (or two, I don't judge) with your lunch, or perhaps even your breakfast (again, not judging). I couldn't help myself when I saw that they were featuring two special wines, and one of them was a Sauvignon Blanc called Sincerite. I had never tasted this particular wine, but it sounded special! And sincere! It was good, but maybe a little too sweet for my palate. Isn't that sometimes the way with those earnest wines? I visited for lunch when I just wanted a little something. So I got the soup of the day -- a bean and beef number in a tomatoey broth. It came with a fennel-seed-studded roll. The soup was amazing and tasted like something a mom or dad or grandma or grandpa would make: just kind of simple and hearty and good. I also got the Hobnob Green Salad, which is mesclun topped with shredded cheese, mushrooms, cubes of turkey and croutons. I'm not a big fan of raw mushroom slices in general, and particularly on a salad, so I picked off the mushrooms like a petulant child and ate the rest of the salad. My soup and salad went really well with my cold glass of Sauv Blanc. Hobnob Corner was very busy when I visited! Nashville is a place that gets lots of visitors, and this restaurant, which is located on the corner of a busy intersection in downtown Nashville, is no exception. But I was able to get a table right away, even though I was a party of one. There is no bar here, by the way. Even though they were busy, the service was quick and friendly. They also have a pastry selection in a display case in the front of the restaurant. You can pop in and grab a cookie or pastry, if you want.

With our usual under renovation, we decided to go out of our way to drop by at the Gatesville Country Store on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. before they closed at 3 p.m. They still had a number of customers and a trio of motorbikers came in afterwards. We picked from their specials which were a bean and ham stew with cornbread, bbq pork sandwich with home fries & onions, along with cherry cobbler. Picked our drinks from the cooler and sat out in the sunny porch table and enjoyed the 60+ degree weather after a 40 degree morning while Robin prepared our food. Friendly conversation with other customers and warm sun (and cold drinks) made it easy on the wait. (there are dining tables inside and under a covered porch too). Yes, the food is served on foam plates with plasticware, but the taste is home cooking with care. Crispy home fries with caramelized onions (can't resist with ketchup) and soft moist cornbread with whipped butter (not in package) that were perfect companion to the bean and ham stew. Though I prefer cherries that are more tart in cobbler/pie, the homemade crust made up for it. Snagged a brownie to take home since we couldn't resist. Altogether it was $23 and credit cards are accepted (whew!) Left wallet at home and we were scraping together cash and coins before we saw the credit card sticker on the door and added desserts to our order. Unfortunately, the place started emptying out and we still had not been served our food. After a solid 45 minutes the place emptied out and the tables around us who had came in after us had ordered and received their food. The waitress never acknowledged that it took an unacceptable amount of time. I never even received the potatoes that went with my breakfast, but after waiting for close to an hour, I didn't want to ask for the remainder of my food. At one point, I looked towards the kitchen at our waitress to see if maybe our food was on the counter and I saw the cook in the kitchen, licking her fingers. The food was room temp at best. Nothing seemed fresh and hot. If you like dead bugs in the windows and dirty napkins shoved under the foot of the table keeping them from being wobbly- this is your place. As for me, I'm very disappointed.
