Meh.
I've lived in Sycamore for the past two and a half years. During my time here I have frequented this library. I have to say, I've lived in Olive Hill, Kentucky (population 1,616) and Morehead, Kentucky (population 6,917) for several years and both have blown this library out of the water with regards to selection. Which to me was surprising.
Yes, yes, yes if they don't have it they can use their Prairie Cat system and get it from another Library for you. But let's be real people, we live in a "instant gratification" kind of world. And in the words of Verruca Salts, "I want it now..." But what is interesting, is that the libraries that they are pulling these items from, are coming from towns SMALLER than Sycamore. Being a bigger town shouldn't we have more of these cutting edge titles? Or better yet, some more obscure things? I do tend to like things off the "beaten to death" path.
The plus is their staff. They are always friendly and helpful. One year a book must have gotten mis-barcoded, and turns out I checked out a book on gypsies. Which I in fact, did not. Every time thereafter the clerk would say my book on gypsies had not been returned. To which I would reply that I never checked out a book on gypsies. I was racking up quite the fine. It's hard to turn in a book you never checked out. Anyways, it got sorted out, yay, and I was never fined, double yay.
All in all I keep coming here to check out books and movies. Although I wish, I wish on a star, they would increase their selection. read more
