As a Doctor of Physical Therapy and former D1 volleyball player, I've seen (and tried) a lot of training programs, and I can honestly say that SY Performance's Hybrid Training Program is in a league of its own. I started Scott's program a few months before my wedding, hoping to tone up, drop a bit of body fat, and just feel more confident walking down the aisle. What happened went far beyond that. In just 3 to 4 months, I leaned out significantly by dropping 25 pounds, while building back real muscle, and felt strong in a way I hadn't since college athletics. What I loved most was the balance between the live training sessions and the workouts on the mobile app. I work long hours as a PT and needed something flexible that still held me accountable, and this nailed it. The app made it incredibly easy to track my workouts and see progress week to week, while Scott's team adjusted my program to keep things challenging and fresh. The nutrition component was honestly the biggest surprise. The meal plan was simple, delicious, and realistic. No weird restrictions or bland food. Everything was laid out with daily macros and calorie goals that made sense for my body and schedule. The food journal in the SYP mobile coaching app made tracking quick and even kind of fun (never thought I'd say that). By the time my wedding came around, I felt confident, energized, and genuinely proud of the transformation I'd made, and it fit seamlessly into my crazy schedule. If you're a busy professional, athlete, or anyone who wants real results without sacrificing your life to the gym, this program is the real deal. Adding picture of progress. Five months into my workouts I'm down 48 pounds-all with Scott guidance! Key--- safety first Eve when I think I can lift more! The care he gives me is bar none for others I have worked with before!

Progress pic

This is what 28 pounds down in nine weeks looks like. For the first time in my life, I chipped the scales at over 300 pounds. Working with Scott has been both a pleasure and a challenge, one that I look forward to every day. Between nutritional planning and difficult but thoughtful workouts, I've managed to reach a third of my weight loss goal for the year in just a little over two months. Well, you will be challenged to your limits, Scott is very careful to not burn you out, unlike some other gyms, I've been to in my 40 years. Recovery is one of the most important aspects of fitness and I not only see it with myself, I see it with other clients that are there before or after my sessions. The gym is clean and well organized and the beauty of a private space is you can always find what you're looking for.

Somewhere along the way I managed to hurt both of my shoulders. My daily routine wasn't really affected, but it did make exercising highly painful and undesirable. After realizing my weight had spiked to a number I never thought I'd see on the scale beneath me, I knew I had to make a change. Being that my 50th birthday is fast-approaching, it seemed like an opportune time to start the process. I spoke with Scott, and he developed a plan to not only rehab my shoulders, but ultimately my overall fitness and physical well-being. Since this was all happening in the middle of a global pandemic, going to the gym to accomplish this simply wasn't an option. This would have to happen remotely, which only further applauds Scott's ability to motivate from afar. All I had to start with was a pair of 30# dumbbells and an ab wheel. Scott had me purchase a simple resistance band kit, and built my regimen around those limited resources. Once set up with the app, he sends you your customized workout daily, and you have open communication regarding your progress, barriers, feedback, etc. Video links accompany all exercises, so it's really quite easy. The hardest part is maintaining your personal commitment and actually doing the exercises, yet Scott keeps you motivated and constantly assesses your progress, adjusts it based on your skill level, and makes you the success you can be. Whatever your health and fitness goals may be, Scott can tailor a program to achieve them whether in the gym, or across the globe.

Trainer extraordinaire - Scott Yonehiro, always with a smile!

I explained that I didn't know much about CrossFit, but did know my way around free weights and equipment. I was thoroughly prepped on what to expect, and that I was encouraged to start slow and at my own pace. When I first arrived for class, all the clients were friendly and encouraging. Hard working, but not an overly athletic vibe. As a beginner I did not feel intimidated nor overwhelmed. The workouts are geared for RX/Expert level, but are easily scaled for each individual's skill and ability level. Ownership sets a standard of hygiene and requiring all members to wipe down and disinfect all used equipment as the classes take place live. There was minimal equipment, that is of the highest quality. I thought a gym would need all kinds of equipment? But we achieve all the Physical results with the equipment provided and the plethora of routines prescribed each day. Simple workouts, with instruction, supervision and concern for each client. Open Gym 1 also has personal training and open gym times 6 days weekly. Pricing was competitive with all gyms in the surrounding area. Gym 1 has changed my life. In the past year I've changed my body shape, gained substantial muscle mass, and I'm in the best shape I've been in the last 25 years. I'm in my mid 50's and owe a debt of gratitude to the staff and clients of Open Gym 1. Orale

I would like to preface this review by saying that every member is entitled to their opinion. And…read morethat one of the hardest parts of running any business is keeping all of its clients happy But I had noticed something different recently in the vibe of classes but couldn't put my finger on it until I read a recent review pointing out some "negative" issues with the trainers. I'd like to offer a different perspective because I do feel like changes made in policy in reaction to one persons review have now created a downgrade in my experience when coming to this F45 First of all, bringing energy and motivation to group fitness classes is one of the hardest things to do on a daily basis. So when coaches are actively training along side members during classes I feel like it's bringing a level of energy that otherwise can be missing. It's one thing to offer verbal encouragement but another to show it. I know for myself, it lifts my energy level up when coaches are active participants in class. I know I'm giving 110% that day if they're in it with me. Also in regards to dancing and filming during class. Again, it's about perspective. Dancing, is also part of creating energy in the class atmosphere. It's putting smiles on faces when you're struggling thru your workout or your life. Part of having the two coach format, is not so that they can stand on opposite sides of the room and clap their hands. If they are interactive and play off each other, I would consider it a positive thing. Filming often makes it onto social media which helps to promote the business, I'm sure the coaches goal is not to portray themselves on social media as lazy people who are goofing off during work. I think it may be misconstrued that because the coaches are actively participating in classes or finding different ways to motivate or entertain people. That they are somehow "not doing their job" But I find that that's not the case. They're still aware of the clients, giving direction, offering encouragement, and giving corrections on form. I would like to point out that diversity in types of coaches and coaching styles is actually key in the group fitness format. The best way to attract from a larger more diverse client pool is to foster an environment where not every coach feels like the same carbon copy of every other coach that just clocks in and "does the thing" Also to finish. Community, is one of the HARDEST things to build in any gym. And when you're building community then your personal lives outside the gym starts to blend in with members personal lives. So you can call it "drama or high school" but that's what happens when you blend friendships that extend outside the gym. Those friendships are genuine and the time fostering community is always uncompensated, but again add up to memberships that benefit the business. Just because there are conversations had that aren't... wow that Marathon, that was a tough one. Station 3 what a killer. Doesn't mean that that needs to be taken away. Please don't turn this into some corporate robot gym

I booked "High Rollers" with Shannon and Michael through Classpass and felt the burn in my core the following day. Michael was motivating and encouraging. Doors opened at 5:15 PM and class began at 5:30 PM. Shannon's pup greeted us at the door. Shannon gave us a rundown of the workouts before we started our warmup. Workouts had the same format as the Alhambra location. Only difference is, wherever you stand for the warmup is the station you'll begin the workout. This location didn't provide towels or a cooldown stretch after the class. They have two individual gender neutral, clean restrooms with thoughtful amenities, such as hair ties. Cubbies are located in the front of the class to store your belongings. Water refill station is located in the back, next to the restrooms. Like when I wanted to run the Spartan Sprint race on a whim back in 2018. Not only did Erick help me reach my short term goal of preparing for the race, he ran it with me. It's nice to have a workout instructor whose that committed to fitness. Don't get me wrong, the sprint still kicked my butt, but I finished with some time to spare. The thing about this is I was not someone who would even WANT to run the race in the first place. The consistency of the personalized routines changed my mindset as well as my physique. He even offers homework if you want to start taking steps a bit further for quicker results. I'm trying to sell you on Erick, and that's because Erick is the gym. Another decisive thing for some people is how the instructor is. Erick is really chill, and great at keeping focused while still being able to strike up conversations in between sets.
