In July 2024 a MRI showed 3 bulging discs in my lumbar spine and a partially torn hip labrum. At the time I was training for a pole competition and extremely passionate about progressing. So the injury was devastating--I was told I would not dance again and would probably be in chronic pain for the rest of my life. I spent a year "rehabbing" at a place that overtrained me and worsened my pain. During that year, I went into an injury cycle that created PTSD and depression from not moving my body like I once did. It was one of the darkest times of my life. In September 2025, something told me to jump ship and to look at other options. I went on Yelp and found SY Performance. When I say I manifested "thee best trainer", I mean it. Scott brings to the table nearly 30 years of experience. When we had our first phone consult I made it very clear how important it was to me that I had an absolutely different experience with whomever was going to be rehabilitating/training me. I set the intention that I deserved the best trainer for me and that is exactly what happened. When I met Scott and he evaluated me, he told me within minutes things about my body no one had ever so clearly pinpointed. Analyzing my gait, I found out I had a slight knee vagus. He saw that my shoulders were pulling forward from the overtraining. He instantly picked up the fact that I am hypermobile. He saw that while parts of my body were overtrained, other parts--my core for example--had barely been worked at all. This lead to more imbalances and more pain. All of this information from Scott was key for me. However, even more than that, I knew I was going to be able to trust him--a huge piece of the puzzle as I had so much fear of getting hurt at yet another PT Place or by another trainer. Meeting Scott was the first time I had hope that I might get my life back. I could literally cry as I write this: My goal by end of year was to go back to a pole class. On December 30, not even three months into working together, I attended a pole class. It was one of the happiest moments of my life and it would never have happened without Scott training me. He is so dialed in and knows how much the body can handle. I have gained strength, mobility, and every week is giving me more and more freedom, more of my life back. I know I will get to that Pole Compeition! For a good portion of my life, health and wellness were top priorities for me. I became a certified yoga sculpt instructor in 2019, and have been practicing yoga for many years. The first year and a half of the pandemic, I found myself having a lot more time to hike, work out, and focus on my health and physical fitness -- I was in the best shape of my life! Then, early 2022, we decided to adopt a puppy. Soon, our new puppy, as cute as he was, was ruining our lives -- sleepless nights, bite marks all over our bodies, no time for ourselves and thus, no time to cook healthy meals or work out. Gone were the days of hiking 2-3x a week and making fresh-pressed green juice on a regular basis. Parents, I commend you for dealing with a human child, because a dog child is already beyond exhausting. I soon found myself in worse physical shape than I had been in years, and for me that could lead to very dangerous circumstances. A big reason I've always prioritized my health is not because I *love* working out or eating healthy...it's because I literally have to. I was born with a condition called PFO (patent foramen ovale), which means I was born with a hole between the left and right atria of my heart. Prior to starting the 90DBTC I wasn't very active. I would workout maybe once a week. I wanted to get back in the habit of exercising on a regular basis but needed a push. I really liked the idea of being guided by a personal trainer, but having to be accountable for yourself since you aren't working out with them in person. I cannot say enough good things about Scott, but I'll try!! I have a ankle disability and wear an adaptive device on my leg that requires a significant amount of core strength to work properly. Scott is INCREDIBLE and LIFE CHANGING. I began training with Scott about 1 year ago and will say without hesitation that Scott is truly a world-class trainer. Before I came to Scott, I had never retained a personal trainer and had very little experience working out. I had never really been a fan of gym's- I think mostly because I didn't really know how to properly utilize them. I went through a series of ClassPass classes and private pilates classes, but didn't really stick to any kind of working out pattern or routine. Then I met Scott-- and he changed EVERYTHING. He's a teacher, motivator, dietician and of course, trainer, all in one! He'll help you set goals, tell you what to eat, how to train and keep you on track. He's also relentless because he genuinely wants you to succeed. I have never loved working out as much as I do with Scott. Finding a personal trainer was something that my wife and I had discussed many times but a busy schedule and maybe a little bit of fear that it would be a "boot camp" mentality led us to be a bit reluctant to take the steps. Both of us walk at least 5 miles every day and felt that we were in decent shape, but we have relatively sedentary jobs and were just feeling like we needed to up the ante so to speak. My wife found SY Performance through a Yelp review for personal trainers in the Burbank area and we met with Scott who explained the program and instantly made us feel like it was a fit. We signed up on the spot and were paired with Kerri as our personal trainer. There was an option to do either a solo class or as a couple and we chose the latter option feeling that we would push each other more that way. That's worked out great and it's awesome that SY offers it. It wasn't long (maybe the 2nd session) before I realized that I was not in the "decent" shape that I thought I was. I know Kerri was going "easy" on me but I was exhausted and sore! She is a great coach and worked with both my limitations and personality to keep me motivated and feeling like I could do the workouts and improve my strength and achieve the results I was hoping for. We are now 11 weeks in (3 times a week) and I find that I am looking forward to the workouts and miss them on weekends. I've seen results and I am eager to progress further. I went to SY Performance after turning 50 and having a disappointing bone scan. I'd been pretty active most of my life, but had gotten complacent in the past five years. I wasn't sure that I still knew how to safely and effectively work out. My trainer, Scott, totally did! Scott has so much knowledge, patience and compassion. I can't say enough about Scott. He is an fantastic trainer, the best in my opinion. Scott has fun and takes pride in his field. It shows. He stays focus on your specific goals and wants his clients to succeed on their own once the training is complete. He is extremely diligent on using proper form and explaining the "whys" of each workout. Before Nov 2018, I rarely stepped foot in a gym. I never felt comfortable. What exercises should I do? How does that machine work? Am I doing it right? Clueless. I decided that morning walks and biking was my main source of exercise. Then, I realized that strength training was needed after 2+ years at a stressful desk job. My body was overall stiff and experiencing minor pains. As a gift to myself, I signed up for Scott's training program. My main goal was to improve my overall strength. Now, I can proudly say I am stronger. I have been going to SY Performance for 7 months with Laynie as my coach. I just got to say that my entire experience with SY has been fantastic. Laynie has helped me lose a significant amount of weight while also gaining a lot of muscle. She has been a wonderful coach, person, and friend - pushing me to handle greater weight and making me stick to the workout plan even on those mornings I don't want to do it. We didn't work to just look good aesthetically, we worked from a character based foundation- which is exactly the type of specificity I needed. I found Scott earlier this year when I was going through a really tough time: I was seeking help for depression, getting over a back injury, and gaining a lot of weight and had zero interest in working out or eating healthy. As part of my determination to turn my life around, I decided to invest in my health and work out with a trainer because I just couldn't motivate myself and felt totally lost about where to start. I interviewed several different trainers because I really wanted to find one who understood my goals and my need to be pushed without being pushed too much, as well as having the right positive attitude. I've worked out with trainers before and know that the 'wrong' trainer will make you dread going to the gym even more. Right from the get-go, I knew Scott was the right trainer for me because he was thorough (I had a zillion questions), extremely knowledgable, and FUN. He truly cared about my unique situation and goals (weightloss, sure, but mostly to find inspiration to become healthy/active) - he got me excited to get started (and really... getting started is the hardest part). Scott helped me figure out a tailored workout for my body taking my back injury into consideration. He even switched up some of the workouts on-the-spot if he saw that I didn't get enough sleep that day or was just having a super rough day (because your pysche affects your performance!). No cookie-cutter workout routines here! He even provided guidelines for how to work out when I am not able to get to a gym. It is part of his pride that his clients "graduate" from his program knowing how to work out on their own. Scott is the best trainer you could ask for! Especially during these unprecedented times. He will work out with you at a park or in your backyard. He works with your schedule! He also knows a thing or two about fitness. He has helped me drop from 310 pounds to 250 pounds safely! No sad flabby skin here. I came to Sy performance to do the 90 Day Transformation Challenge. I had become sedentary after quitting my old gym four months prior and I needed to jump start my fitness program for my wedding in July of 2022. I met Scott and liked him immediately- He was friendly, supportive, and excited to work with new members. Once I started the 90 day transformation challenge, I felt re energized!
