My 3 year old getting in his practice.

Coach B was amazing! So much accomplished by even just on day one! Will we be back every summer.

Coach B is a patient, persistent and experienced swim instructor. Over the course of the 9 days of one in one lessons our 5 year old became a solidly sufficient swimmer after starting with a weak doggy paddle. Our 2 year old learned basic technique and pool skill basics after starting with constant crying. He went from crying and whining the first 3 lessons to asking for more the final few lessons. We also learned tips on how to continue the strengthening of their skills after the lessons ended. Knowing how important water safety is, this was money very well spent.

I was a little apprehensive about this method of swim lessons, but I'd heard great things about Coach B. He did not disappoint. Our son was very apprehensive (read: terrified) for the majority of the lessons, but Coach B remained steady and kind. The last few days it was a complete 180 and our little man was swimming so well! It gives me so much peace of mind to know that our son has the skills he needs to survive in the water, even under duress. The last day we got to get in the pool with him and Coach B as he transferred some knowledge to us to keep his skills going. We are so thankful for Coach B!

We would recommend Coach B to any family. His coaching style along with his communication is outstanding. So happy we are part of the swordfish swim school. HEAD DOWN!!!

Ask the Community - Swordfish Swim School

Do you have to have your own pool?

No. I work in private backyard pools all over Orange County. Pick a session near you.

Looking to get lessons for my eight month old grandson do you do that?

I do not. My lessons start when kids have been walking for 6 months

As long as your child can swim independently and are familiar with a few different swim strokes, they are allowed to join. I have found these classes to be a great way to strengthen their swimming skills and getting them used to drills in the water. Beginner classes are 1 hour long on T/Th from 5-6pm and your kid will get a great workout! They also learn how to move their legs to swim in place, how to swim holding the ball, pass the ball, score and block. When they have enough skill they can move on to the next level, which is M/T/Th from 5-6:30pm. My son has loved this year-round team; even in the winter he is excited to show up. From my observations, these swim sports help children develop some serious grit; rain or shine, they go in the water ready to practice. The coaches have been great too (shout out to coach Jake! And the others too, I just haven't learned their names). They RARELY cancel practice, unless there are thunderstorms. And the absolute best part of this club: canceling/starting a subscription is SUPER easy. As long as you give them notice in a timely manner, they just pause/restart your subscription without penalties or tricks like a lot of other places do. I highly recommend!

Coach Mark is an outstanding swim instructor with a longstanding, exceptional background in instructional aquatics, both in the pool and the ocean. Ross doesn't care about his swim team, only water polo, so if you are on the swim team, you are 3rd class. When pool closed in 2021, he found a place for WP to practice but not ST- go run on the beach. Team shrank during pandemic, lot of apathy, lost ST to Nova, and others. Not likely that Ross will be replaced since his HS WP team is a winner, but he is a one trick pony. We were there for 6 years and I wouldn't know Ross if he knocked on my front door. Our current team isn't like that, there are no queens or princes there. Remember, the higher your pedestal, the farther is your fall from grace. Ross has built himself a pretty high one. A problem with the old reviews is they don't distinguish between NBS- a swim team, the special Jr. Guard training offered in the Spring, and City of NB swim lessons run by NBFD- which runs NB lifeguards. Nothing is affiliated with NB Jr. Guards here- the test is at CdMHS. If you just want summer lessons (run by the NBFD), or some swimming for your child under 8, it is good. Kevin is really a great guy and family friendly, I would not expect anything to change with a new facility, probably get worse. Too bad, Olympian Aaron Peirsol swam on the NHHS team, so it has a good history, if anyone cared. I'm not aware of any WP Olympians from NHHS. There is a good program for Jr. Guard swim practice but it is short term, lots of kids swimming laps to get fast enough to pass the test. But for long term JO training, not so great. It's too bad, I really like Kevin, and the pool is very convenient for us, but we went to another team when the team abandoned us. Coach Jim, gone. Coach Lexie, gone. Coach Stephanie, gone. Us, gone.

She was very kind and graceful as I navigated the app and many schedules of the household over the phone. She thoroughly explained the current promo they have going on right now and ultimately got us all signed up for what we needed. We had our free trial class with Chris last week and I was so pleased with how friendly, soft-spoken, and patient he was with my son. My son didn't even want to go into the water for the first 10 min of the 30 min class, and Chris just continued to ask if he was ready, all the while still holding lesson and staying attentive to the other child who was in the same class. Eventually, my kiddo felt confident enough to join in and by the end of the session he was having an absolute blast. We are looking forward to continuing our swim journey here with this crew!

The instructors are great but the techniques and length of swim time aren't very helpful. I called to cancel my lesson on September 2nd because I didn't feel I was learning anything but they said I was supposed to call by the 25th of August to cancel. Although apparently it's in the policy I am miffed that they won't refund me the money because I was a couple days late even though hadn't used their time yet. Long story short not a good place for adults to learn how to swim and their policies are outdated IMO. @Jen B Six classes and I still don't know how to swim a credit to a place where I haven't learned much seems useless.
