    Swimming underwater

Coach B is amazing! Such valuable lessons and malleability. Loved the verbal and non verbal language he uses and his awareness of the stage where the child is and how to respond. My daughter (22 months) is able to swim 8-10 feet with assistance and has gained confidence in the water. A+ on professionalism and effort. Thanks Coach B!

Coach B is a patient, persistent and experienced swim instructor. Over the course of the 9 days of one in one lessons our 5 year old became a solidly sufficient swimmer after starting with a weak doggy paddle. Our 2 year old learned basic technique and pool skill basics after starting with constant crying. He went from crying and whining the first 3 lessons to asking for more the final few lessons. We also learned tips on how to continue the strengthening of their skills after the lessons ended. Knowing how important water safety is, this was money very well spent.

I was a little apprehensive about this method of swim lessons, but I'd heard great things about Coach B. He did not disappoint. Our son was very apprehensive (read: terrified) for the majority of the lessons, but Coach B remained steady and kind. The last few days it was a complete 180 and our little man was swimming so well! It gives me so much peace of mind to know that our son has the skills he needs to survive in the water, even under duress. The last day we got to get in the pool with him and Coach B as he transferred some knowledge to us to keep his skills going. We are so thankful for Coach B!

She was only 4, new to swimming, scared, crying, and clearly looking for her safe place -- her parents. Seeing staff block her from leaving the pool area while she was afraid was hard to watch as a parent. I remember talking to a "Karen" that worked there, "oh thats just how it is she will get use to it" same person that did not greet us when we stood at the counter waiting. Vibe was already off and I didn't notice my instincts. I don't believe this reflects every experience or everyone there, and maybe it was just that day or the staff we had. But for us, it was unforgettable. Looking back, I wish I had trusted my instincts sooner and spoken up more. Thankfully, after finding another swim school, she learned to love swimming and moved forward. Still, watching that footage today reminded me how important it is for parents to trust what they feel and advocate for their child.

As long as your child can swim independently and are familiar with a few different swim strokes, they are allowed to join. I have found these classes to be a great way to strengthen their swimming skills and getting them used to drills in the water. Beginner classes are 1 hour long on T/Th from 5-6pm and your kid will get a great workout! They also learn how to move their legs to swim in place, how to swim holding the ball, pass the ball, score and block. When they have enough skill they can move on to the next level, which is M/T/Th from 5-6:30pm. My son has loved this year-round team; even in the winter he is excited to show up. From my observations, these swim sports help children develop some serious grit; rain or shine, they go in the water ready to practice. The coaches have been great too (shout out to coach Jake! And the others too, I just haven't learned their names). They RARELY cancel practice, unless there are thunderstorms. And the absolute best part of this club: canceling/starting a subscription is SUPER easy. As long as you give them notice in a timely manner, they just pause/restart your subscription without penalties or tricks like a lot of other places do. I highly recommend!

While I appreciate the outreach, it came after more than five weeks of repeated requests made both in person and by phone. During that time, we were consistently told that someone would contact us, yet no one ever did. Unfortunately, by the time management reached out, we had already made the decision to cancel our membership and move on. We have since found a private certified swim instructor who is able to provide one-on-one instruction at half the cost of what we were planning on paying with Big Blue . More importantly, the communication was immediate, straightforward, and responsive. This review was never about whether private lessons were available. It was about customer service, follow-through, and communication. Had someone simply returned one of our many requests with an honest update, we likely would have remained customers. I genuinely appreciate the instructors who worked with our son over the past two+ years and wish them the best. However, the lack of responsiveness from management ultimately led us to take our business elsewhere.

Ross doesn't care about his swim team, only water polo, so if you are on the swim team, you are 3rd class. When pool closed in 2021, he found a place for WP to practice but not ST- go run on the beach. Team shrank during pandemic, lot of apathy, lost ST to Nova, and others. Not likely that Ross will be replaced since his HS WP team is a winner, but he is a one trick pony. We were there for 6 years and I wouldn't know Ross if he knocked on my front door. Our current team isn't like that, there are no queens or princes there. Remember, the higher your pedestal, the farther is your fall from grace. Ross has built himself a pretty high one. A problem with the old reviews is they don't distinguish between NBS- a swim team, the special Jr. Guard training offered in the Spring, and City of NB swim lessons run by NBFD- which runs NB lifeguards. Nothing is affiliated with NB Jr. Guards here- the test is at CdMHS. If you just want summer lessons (run by the NBFD), or some swimming for your child under 8, it is good. Kevin is really a great guy and family friendly, I would not expect anything to change with a new facility, probably get worse. Too bad, Olympian Aaron Peirsol swam on the NHHS team, so it has a good history, if anyone cared. I'm not aware of any WP Olympians from NHHS. There is a good program for Jr. Guard swim practice but it is short term, lots of kids swimming laps to get fast enough to pass the test. But for long term JO training, not so great. It's too bad, I really like Kevin, and the pool is very convenient for us, but we went to another team when the team abandoned us. Coach Jim, gone. Coach Lexie, gone. Coach Stephanie, gone. Us, gone.
