***PARENTS OF THE BRIDE REVIEW***…read more You have seen our daughter's review, so we thought it was only fair that we provide information from our vantage point as well. My wife and I have been staying at the Square Inn for many years now and have always been impressed with the wonderful hospitality provided by Marci, Lloyd and their team. From the wonderful rooms to the fresh cooked breakfast's every morning it is more like visiting family than staying in a bed and breakfast. When they started construction on their Legacy Lounge our only daughter was already engaged and looking for a venue. We immediately recommended that she consider having her wedding here and once she had a chance to take a look she was sold as well. From the very beginning Marci was there to help with suggestions for the wedding and referrals to local businesses that could help us put together the wedding my daughter wanted. Given that our daughter informed us in November she wanted to be married in late April or early May I do not think we could have put this together without her. In the end we booked not only the Legacy Lounge but all 8 rooms of the Square Inn as well. I highly recommend this arrangement as there were enough rooms for the wedding party and increased the footprint of the event allowing for a truly unique experience. We would find out as time went on that the value received on our money was greater than what we believe we would have received at any of the other venues we looked at. Marci, Lloyd and their team were again on point on the day of the wedding providing the services of wedding coordinator, bar staff and entertainment coordinator. There was never a long line at the bar. When some guests wanted to watch the hockey playoffs Marci made that happen on an outside TV. Fire Pit? Here came Lloyd to make the fire come to life. It was almost as if it were if it was one of their own children was getting married that day. At the end of the evening when it was time to go, we moved the happy couple to the front of the Square Inn where they were able to say goodbye to all their guests and finally relax for the evening. As we had booked all the rooms, only the wedding party remained after the ceremony and reception and the bride and groom were able to spend a quiet night in the courtyard with their closest friends relaxing after what had been a couple of very busy and stressful days. This was the most unique wedding we have ever attended and we cannot think of anything that could have made it better. If you are looking for a somewhere to hold a special event, do yourselves a favor and give the Legacy Lounge / Square inn a look. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

If you're in your room you leave the door open to allow the cool air from the hallway to drift into your room. The rooms are terrible, relatively clean, but dilapidated. Nowhere to put anything. The single antique, worn out dresser has a TV on it. There s zero counter in the bathroom, a pedestal sink, a small medicine cabinet with a mirror and one electric plug in the light fixture. The pool is refreshing but needs a lot of work! The grounds are really pretty. This place has SO much potential but it's clear that the owners aren't putting anything back into the business. Sad.

Our room (#14) was extremely difficult to enter. There were two steps to climb. The first one was OK. The second one was more than a foot high. Very difficult to climb. There were no rails or anything else to hold onto. The first thing we saw when we entered our room was a broom with a wad of hair stuck to it. Then a dust pan just lying on the floor. Then there was the bathroom. Let's just say that I have seen larger in a small motor home. The most redeeming factor is that the beds were very comfortable. If you are young and healthy, this could be a nice place to stay. The scenery in the area was awesome.

I've stayed here twice, and our accommodations the first time around in one of the larger cabins was beautiful. Everything was very clean, and modern looking. However, I was significantly less impressed when we came back and stayed in one of the smaller cabins. There were orange stains on all of the linen, the lighting was strange, and it just looked and felt dingy. It also lacked basic necessities to be comfortable in an overnight stay, like paper towels and regular towels (they tell you to bring your own but I still find it strange). The area and town are beautiful, so we would like to return but I will consider looking into alternate accommodations next time.

I received the booking confirmation with instructions that a Saturday arrival needs to go to the courtesy desk at the local grocery store to get the key. We found the grocery store and went in. After several minutes of looking they did not find our envelope with the key or anything with our name on it. They said to just go out there and maybe someone was there. I looked through my emails and found another one that had shown up while we were driving with completely different instructions on how to get in. It said we were to go to the place and the key would be under a planter. We drove out a few miles and found it (difficult to find in the dark) and there were a whole bunch of people around a fire pit, several hammocks hanging in the trees and bicycles all over the place. We did not expect neighbors since that was not clear in the description. We found a small sign and a place to park on the side of the "cottage". We walked up and the key was in the door, not where it said it would be. We unloaded and as we were our neighbors (who were certainly having a good time) came over and said they were going to be there for a few days and join them if we wanted. It was a nice gesture, but not what we were expecting. Needless to say we did not get to use the hot tub, fire pit or enjoy the views as described as it was always too crowded. Later I found the info on the other half of our "private cottage" and says it sleeps 4. They had more than 4 people in there and we could hear them through the walls. The inside was ok. On the table were the rules. I am fine with rules but when they don't apply to the unit you are in it makes things confusing. They mentioned an upstairs (there isn't one), wash the dishes (there is no kitchen and the only sink is in the bathroom), that no firewood could be used, only the fake logs you buy at the store, but that the grill outside could use wood and be used as the fire pit. WHAT? None of this made sense. The bed was very uncomfortable and covered with some kind of plastic that was very loud each time you moved. The cable TV was basic, there was no wifi as described and the instructions on how to use the dvd player were wrong. The coffee maker was disgusting and partially broken. I had to clean it prior to using it and only used it once. We went into town for coffee after that. Kitchenette? Not even close. A microwave and a toaster do not make a kitchenette. There was dirt on the floors, cobwebs in most corners, hair in the drawers of the bathroom cabinets, etc etc. The only views we had were to the bushes, no sweeping views of the valley as described. It was just disappointing. We were told to do the dishes and clean everything before we left, well, we left it better than we found it for sure. We had to purchase paper towels and kleenex as no paper products were provided aside from the roll of toilet paper. This place has potential but really needs to be managed better and the descriptions are very misleading.

The drive out is a bit out of the way -- Fredericksburg is about an hour from most larger cities -- but Onera itself is only about a minute from town. The property is fenced (mostly to keep cars out), though the surrounding area isn't the most scenic right now due to nearby construction. Inside the property you'll drive on a mix of paved and unpaved roads depending on where your cabin is. First impression: the shared pool area is much smaller than it looks in the photos. A little disappointing, but we came for the cabin anyway. Finding the Monarch cabin was easy and the instructions, gate code, and door codes were all clear and ready when we needed them. Communication and service were great. The cabin itself looked just like the photos. The decor was fun, the ladder to the second-floor hammock was a cool touch, and the kitchen setup was surprisingly complete: small fridge with freezer, dual hot plates, and a gas grill outside. You could easily cook full meals here - we did. Where things fell short was maintenance. Some areas were dirty or worn. The gas grill had torn metal right above the gas canister that made turning it on and off feel a little unsafe, and the grates were extremely dirty even after we tried cleaning them. The outdoor soaking tub was also dirty and uncovered when we arrived. Cleaning it wasn't hard, but the faucet was loose and the tub didn't seem to get hot water. Meanwhile the cabin shower had plenty of hot water the entire stay. Privacy was another surprise. The marketing makes the cabins look pretty secluded, but they're actually fairly close together. You can hear nearby conversations if windows are open, and the neighboring cabin's kitchen window was pointed directly at our outdoor tub -- so bring a swimsuit. The fire pit was a nice touch but there were no tools (or wood) given to light it. Also worth noting: the cabins don't have Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi code they provide seems to only work near the shared area. Overall, the treehouse concept is fun, but the experience didn't really match the price. It feels more like a novelty stay than a luxury one. It could still work as a unique base if you're visiting Fredericksburg for wineries and town activities, but I wouldn't come with high expectations.

Stayed at Onera this weekend to celebrate a milestone birthday in the Cocoon house!…read more Overall, this place was absolutely fantastic. The cocoon was lovely, clean, with lots of thoughtful little amenities like the espresso, grill and grill tools, robes, plenty of towels, etc. The pool was right next door to our unit so an easy walk and people were very respectful noise-wise. The pool was lovely- it's still heated even in the summer so very warm. The deck and chairs were clean, and I love the towel station where you don't need to use your room towels you can grab them there and discard. The pool is connected to a lovely sitting area in the trees with this awesome built in hammock- loved that!! The sauna was easy to use and adorable as well. I found the AC in the unit to be fantastic and kept our unit so cold, and the bed was great!! I also love how they cultivate plants to attract butterflies, so pretty. WiFi also worked amazing and was strong the whole time. We really enjoyed our lounge pool as well! Now, a couple things. I didn't look to see if there was a map, but our unit was not that private. Because the pool deck is raised you could see over our fence into our deck. You can also see roads and people and cars from our lounge pool. I am sure there is more privacy further back, but the cocoon doesn't have much at all and I probably would have picked a different unit if I knew that. Overall the photos made it look much more woodsy and remote than it is- everything is pretty close together and I really wish there was more trees so you aren't staring at the back of staff quarters when in the hammock. Second, you need a lighter to light the grill. We didn't know that and wasted a lot of time trying to troubleshoot. This place is really communicative so that was surprising that this wasn't notated in the check in instructions. There was also not a lighter in our room- requiring us to notify the concierge and wait for staff to deliver one. Finally, the cocoon has an extremely overwhelming smell of plastic- probably because it's made of plastic. It didn't bother my boyfriend but it was pretty off putting to me. The reason I gave five stars instead of four was because of their concierge service. Never in my life have I had such fast and helpful responses to everything I asked! I'm someone who has no qualms reaching out immediately for help if I am wondering about anything, and they were averaging a less than 5 minute response time- even when I sent a question at 4 am oncw that popped into my head while I was at an airport before our stay!! And that staff member arrived with our lighter in 5 minutes! There are always small things that can be changed, but we really enjoyed our time here and would love to come back- prices are significantly cheaper during the week so we would probably do that.

Steve gave us a tour of the grounds, patios, the community room, and the chapel. He mentioned that he built the chapel, and it was so fun to see the pride in his eyes when he talked about each of the pieces of the chapel and how it was built. The entire grounds were incredibly gorgeous, with chickens, a duck, a cat, and little Gracie (their daschund) roaming about. I spent most of my time drinking tea on one of their screened porches, watching the animals cruise around in absolute silence (we were the only patrons on the property during our stay, score!!). Our breakfast each morning was OUT OF THIS WORLD. My second breakfast was a quiche, bacon, fruit with whipped cream, and oatmeal. I remember Belinda saying that there was a ton of food for me...all I could think was, "Challenge accepted!" Every scrap was eaten except for a small piece of bacon for Gracie. Belinda and Steve were so incredibly warm, welcoming, and personable. I really felt like I was at home with my family. I will definitely be coming back.
