Lifeguards and staff are friendly. Pools and common areas super clean. Overall it's a vast improvement over my NY Y. I'd have given 5 starts for the lack of interest in my complaint: Request the therapy pool (jets treadmill) guests wear headphones or buds instead of blasting their music. People yesterday all wore earplugs because one entitled woman insisted on playing her music. "We've gotten a lot of complaints about her" the desk said. Yet nothing is done. Just a simple request! I've never experienced such complete selfishness - yet they don't care and allow the space to be dominated by loud inconsiderate guests. Headphones are cheap. I actually loved this place until the pandemic hit. I needed to do water walking and with the length of the instructional pool that was one depth, it was perfect for me to complete this 3-4 times a week in the evening. Then the pandemic hit and all of that stopped. When they did open back up it was only for lap swimming which was in the part of the pool that was too deep for me to walk and whenever I asked about open swim and walking lanes, they never had an answer. Now they only have about two days from 8:00-8:30 pm which is a small window to make sure I can get there and be ready to go in the pool. I am really disappointed because I have yet to find another pool facility in the area that comes close to offering what I need and I can really tell the difference in my pain levels. read more

Awful experience for our 4 year old. In only a class of 2 kids, she reached for a toy given to her by the instructor and fell off the step. She couldn't touch the bottom and was under water. The instructor had NO clue she was under as she was digging in a basket for something, not watching. The lifeguard didn't move either. As my wife and I yelled, "she's under!" I jumped up from my seat and pulled her out. At that point, one of the other instructors who was working with 3 other young kids made her way over before our instructor even noticed. Very terrible experience for a 4 year old that wants to learn to swim. It would be zero stars if possible. read more

We didn't have a good experience. My toddler has sensory differences (autism dx) and I communicated this on the phone and again in person. In the beginning it seemed like it was going to work out and the initial lesson went well. However there are 2 kids who are siblings who were in my son's swimming class, and despite parents not being allowed in the water, the father of the other kids had his legs immersed in the water so my son was splashing and happened to splash him. My son also honestly had a hard time sitting still when it wasn't his turn, but the father of the other kids yelled at my son and was being a bully. I decided I'd have him stay out of the water when it wasn't my son's turn but even when I expressed how I wasn't comfortable with this grown man bullying my disabled child and requested a refund, i still didn't receive a refund. I'm appalled they allow parents in pre school swim lessons who are rude to other kids and there are zero consequences for this. The staff started treating my son differently and I believe it's because the other family made some remarks about my son. read more

Those outside the sport of swimming may have never given thought to what became of the Myrtha Pool used in the 2008 Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha NE. This is a pool that garnered 9 world records just a head of the Bejing Olympics, where Michael Phelps got his historic 8 gold medals. Those outside the sport possibly never gave a thought that a pool could even be disassembled, trucked across the country and put back together again for competition. Let me assure you that community leaders in the Richmond area had a plan for this historic tub. A plan that would end up having an incredible price tag of 22 million. This facility would host world class swimming competitions and bring awareness to water safety in the Greater Richmond area. The pool's physical location would be in Chesterfield Co. in Ukrops Park. The naming rights would go to Collegiate School, a private school in Richmond acquired major funding for the venture. However, it is the Ukrop family who provided the major funding, and land that the CSAC would eventually set on to make this all a reality. The USA club team Poseidon Swimming host meets and practices out of the aquatic center. Poseidon with it's significant fund raising was considered serious player in making this dream come true for not only for Richmond, but for Virginia. The plan that had been agonized over a four year time frame became a reality March 13, 2012. This spectacular swimming facility boost an eight lane 50 meter pool which is the olympic trials structure. Not to be left out an 8 lane 25 yd warm up/cool down pool for competition and a warm therapy pool. Spectators are not left out in the 7,000 sq ft mezzanine that can hold up to 700 fans. Parking is plentiful all around the building. Even new exit ramps off the highway were installed to make it easy to access the CSAC. This aquatic facility is a shining example of a dream one community had to bring not only world class competition to Virginia, but also the awareness and importance of water safety. The presence and prestige of a pool of this stature is a tremendous economic boom for the Richmond area too. The GRAP Greater Richmond Aquatic Partnership manages the pool. Memberships are available to those in the community. I have been a member at SwimRVA since February. I was going consistently 4-5 days a week for two months then COVID hit, so they had to shutdown. They recently opened back to and I've been going at least 3 days a week this past month. They are doing a great job keeping everyone and everything safe and secure during this pandemic. I love my instructors, the staff, and most of all I love that they offer aqua classes everyday and different times to accommodate everyone's schedule. They are only open Monday thru Friday currently for wellness members but hopefully in the future they will offer Saturday and Sunday classes again. I truly enjoy being a member here and everyone is so kind helpful and welcoming. Favorite gym membership ever!!! Glad I'm apart of the SwimRVA team! Btw, they also offer cardio classes, yoga, chair strengthening, Zumba, kickboxing, stretching, line dancing, and so much more. read more

This place has transformed my life! I was limping when I first started. Initially just using the under water treadmill and then transitioning to adding some pool classes to the mix. I am here about 10 hours a week. Everyone is so friendly from front desk to any of the staff. I am so much stronger and have gained much confidence I love this place! I have met many new friends. There are times the pool is closed for swim meets but what I receive the rest of the time I am Ok with the tradeoff. I consider myself a lifetime member! It doesn't get any better than this. We are FAMILY at this place. read more

This is the best indoor pool in RVA. It actually used to be an Olympic Trials pool in Omaha, Nebraska. They picked it up and moved it here. Couldn't ask for nicer facilities for my daughter to practice in. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there aren't enough ladders for older people to get out from the middle of the pool. read more

So after three and a 1/2 decades (you do the math) I am finally taking the dive and learning how to survive it!!! Momma I'm going to swim! After years of being banned from the pool...let me tell you...the myth is true, many black girls don't know how to swim because of fear of wetting the hair..who knew? :) Anywho... now that I do my own hair..so I'm not adding undo stress on my mother, I am finally working toward achieving another goal. In only three class sessions...SWIMRVA has taken me to new heights and "lows" in the water than I've ever been. I'm definitely not swimming yet, but I'm sort of moving from point A to point B and that's a major step. I've also put my head under water and stayed there for a few seconds while blowing bubbles. Another major step as i've never...rarely ever...that I can remember... put my head under water without an intentional hair washing session. True Story! Any who I'm learning a lot and pretty soon I'll be working to accomplish my next goal...participate in a Triathlon. The prices for lessons aren't bad at all. The people are encouraging, knowledgeable, and patient. Would I prefer to learn how to swim in my own pool by myself...ABSOLUTELY. Nothing like seeing a grown person in the pool struggling beside a child who's barely been in this world dare deviling in the water. Yes, there is some form of humiliation there, but it quickly dissolves as you start to focus on your goal and recognize you will soon be in the other 50th percentile of folks who DO know how to swim. C'est la vie to that other 1/2 percent. read more

The only reason I used the facility was because of the 50 meter pool. But they don't take advantage of this. The 50 meter format is available mostly on weekends and some limited hours on weekdays. But the weekends are mostly closed for competition. The pool is set up predominantly as a 25m format. I don't feel like I got my money's worth paying every month only to have the facility closed when I am most available to swim. The 50m pool water temperature is too cold for my liking. The smaller activity pool is warm, but I try to stay away from the yucky water. It is often dirty and cloudy. It doesn't seem to get cleaned very often. As far as their payment options, they should not be able to advertise that there is NO contract, but essentially there is. The only reason why I signed up for the monthly automated payment is for convenience. So if you sign up for the monthly payment option, you are signing up for membership where they can charge you indefinitely. This would imply that this is a form of contract. They require you to contact them if you want them to stop charging your credit card. Well, my credit card account had expired and they kept billing me and sending me invoices even though I had not used the facility in the months they had billed me for. I had called and complained about the charges and the lady there was not very helpful and deferred me to her manager. When the manager finally called back and left a message two weeks later, it was a game of phone tag. And then a week later, I got another continued bill for the following month. This was after contacting them disputing the charges. After finally getting the manager on the phone, he did not feel that NO contract was a deceptive advertisement and threatened that my account would be sent to a collection agency if I did not pay the bills. This was a very frustrating and irritating experience for me. I will never set foot in that facility or participate in any of their sponsored event. It was a shame that my experience had to come to an end due to shady billing issues and false advertisement. read more
