How they got my nervous, crying toddler to calm down and smile and swim in such a short amount of time should be studied. Some people are born to work with kids, and that's everyone we've met at Goldfish. They offer a free trial class. Definitely check it out if you want to have your child learn to enjoy swimming. GFS was instrumental in making her a fantastic swimmer and getting her excited about it in the process. Everyone is wonderful with the kids and deals with upset children super well (better than I would, for sure!). The staff is always crazy friendly and they bend over backwards to accommodate your needs. It's worth the money as a great activity to do and the peace of mind I now have around water with my kiddos. She constantly is telling her teacher about her week and updating her during their lesson. At first we started doing swim together in level 2 but once she mastered that she went up to level three which she did with just other kids and the teacher. The teachers are so nice, patient and trained well. Her little sister was just born and we're already planning to enroll her at 6 months.

Here's my impression after the first week: Signing up for membership was challenging. The price we were quoted over the phone was different than what we were told when we showed up to join. And actually we had an appointment with the membership director and he was on vacation and everyone from membership was gone so one of the front desk attendants gave us a tour. They also gave us a pass to the weekend to make up for the debacle. When we showed up on Saturday we met with someone in membership and that's when the pricing changed because what we were quoted only covered 3 people. So we paid extra for the fourth and our fifth couldn't join because the cost of their membership was too high and she is a student (my daughter). She is 26 so that's why she has to have her own membership. I get it. Also the hot tub and rooftop pool is extra, so be aware. They also have a Recovery area that includes infrared saunas and cold plunge, plus a variety of other equipment. That's an extra charge too, but the first month is free so you can check it out. Other than that miscommunication, it's been pretty seamless. Every staff member I've encountered has been professional and super helpful. Kudos to the center for hiring great people. Any kind of exercise you could possibly want to do is under the roof of acac or at one of their other facilities. The classes and yoga studio is top notch. I've done a few classes and also yoga, signed up for the egym and have used the hot tub, sauna, plunge, etc., and it's all been good. It's only a week in and I feel right at home and motivated to work out every day. I still have so much more to try! I love that I can do something different everyday so I don't get bored. Joining acac costs more but so far it's worth it for us.

In my opinion, joining ACAC, at least at the Short Pump location, is problematic at best. If you…read morelook too closely, you will see slanging (special visitors supplying staff with the magic powder), members doing the nasty, and oh yes, they have exercise going on there too. They have some great equipment when its working, but in my three years there, anything that broke took months to locate a part for, and weeks to install. Pool equipment, ventilation, laundry, toilets/showers, etc. You need to make advance reservatons online for much of the things you want to use (lap lanes included), but if you use too often, they won't hesitate to terminate you for it. A clue might be when your reservations start to mysteriously vanish from the system. That's just their sales team clearing you out to give new members some priority. Buyer beware.

His name is Alex, description, fat, short light brown hair, glasses, early 40's. He has tried to "talk" to young teen girls on different occasions and has shown up to their tennis matches/sent messages numerous times uninvited, just stalking. It makes these young women uncomfortable as they are aware of it. He is always by himself as he is an outcast and it is obvious. Management has been notified of him and they are aware. Please be careful as this predator is a member at this facility. This is a great place to workout but management needs to get this under control.

It's tucked on the ground floor of the Patrick Henry Square Apt building, at the corner of 24th & Marshall- super close to St. John's Church. It's cozy inside- fairly small studio. My class last night was with Amanda and she definitely provided a solid class. Loved the music and the variety of moves on the bike. They finish the class with wet wash clothes that are heavenly!

The positives: very friendly staff, free shoe rental on your first visit, cold towel at the end of class, easy to book online, conveniently located. The negatives: the class was very crowded (the bikes are practically touching each other), it was so hot and there is one bathroom that had a big line before class because it was the only place people could change. The temperature is the real problem and the regulars said it can get that hot when it's full. If you don't mind the heat, then you will probably enjoy your class more than I did.
