I am a woman in my 40's and due to a very traumatic experience in my childhood (I'm talking mouth…read moreto mouth resuscitation here) I have never learned to swim. For the longest time I couldn't get my ears wet because I'd freak out. Having said that, I moved into a house with a pool and little by little I have been losing my fear of the water. I know I will never go in the ocean, but the pool now I can do. David's swim school is very close to my home and I always saw it, or their signs, and I would think to myself. "I should sign up and take lessons" I always rationalize that I would do it eventually, or the following year. And then Covid hit. Now over a year later I decided that enough was enough. I called and made an appointment to start swimming lessons. I am able to float and to swim under water by myself but I was absolutely nervous the very first time I went in. I signed up for 8 group classes, but because of my schedule and the pandemic, I have been the only adult taking the class every time except for one class. Everyone is very nice and both the instructors I've had have been very patient and understanding. They have taught me invaluable techniques to be able to swim. Am I an expert swimmer? No, but with the technics I have been taught I feel so much more confident in the water. It takes practice. I will most definitely take more lessons once my schedule opens up again. I know so much more now than 7 lessons ago. Facilities are clean and they have proper equipment, pool is heated and indoors. They have cameras with tv's outside so parents can see their children while they swim. Everything is more geared towards children, but they have lots of different programs for adults as well. Such as training, military and so on. I am glad I decided to take the leap. I would certainly recommend David's Swimming School to anyone.

Then looked at my nine year old niece and made a really nasty face like she was really annoyed. She then asked us to sign in..not in a friendly way..she just shoved the clipboard at us and said "sign" and walked away. We were there 10 minutes and it started to pour rain. Scott, a really nice life guard, told us we had to get out of the pool but we could get vouchers to return. The same lady told us we had to wait 30 minutes. We did. It was still pouring so we went back in for the voucher. She totally ignored us, working away at her computer. After 5 minutes of just standing there we left without the voucher. Money wasted, rude front office employee...don't waste your money here.

I understand though that it's due to reopen soon, with new decks and some other upgrades. The pools and dive well speak for themselves as top notch training/teaching facilities, but the fitness center is also a little gem, which has stayed open throughout. This is NOT a fashion gym - no cute color schemes or posing bodybuilders (although you may -like I was! - be exercising next to an Olympic champion who is also just there for the work-out), and no one is intruding into your routine. That's what I love about it: it's a place for everyone, with no judgment, no airs, and every age and body type you can imagine, just trying to stay fit and healthy. Lots of machines and free weights, you can contract with a trainer if you want, and it's inexpensive. Best of all it's never crowded. Can't wait to see everything finished!

I do wish they would mix up the class times once in a while because I've been going for about two years and schedule hasn't changed much so I end up doing the same classes each week. The instructor Jennifer is great. I love that she does different things each week so I don't get bored with it. The place is clean, large, good staff, nice pool. I like the E gym so you don't have to adjust weights as it remembers when you scan your bracelet. They have a lot of community/family based events.

The management team is always very polite and helpful. One of the main reasons I've stayed so long is their wide variety of classes -- yoga, BodyPump, Pilates, Zumba, HIIT, BodyCombat, and more. I used to LOVE the BodyPump and BodyCombat classes, especially with instructors Zoe and Cindy Lee -- they were incredible. So much energy, motivation, always correcting form and really engaging with the class. Truly my favorites. Unfortunately, after they left, I stopped attending those classes. I did try the new instructor, but the experience was very different -- loud in an uncomfortable way, lots of personal talk during class, and overall not the same professional atmosphere. There was also an awkward situation that made me feel unwelcome. I was filming myself and my friend briefly (as I sometimes do), making sure no one else was in the background. The instructor approached me in a way that felt unnecessarily confrontational, repeating the same comment about not filming, even after I had already stopped and put my phone away. After that, I felt uncomfortable returning to those classes and eventually stopped going altogether -- especially when I noticed the same energy during future visits. That said, the yoga classes are still excellent -- very strong instructor and great experience. The gym itself is well-equipped with modern machines, always clean, and offers great amenities: sauna, steam room, and a pool. Kids' programs are also a big plus -- my children have been taking swimming classes there for years (we've been coming here for about 6 years total), and they love it. When they were younger, we also attended "mommy & me" classes, which were wonderful -- lots of songs, playtime, and interaction. There's also a kids' playroom with staff, toys, and activities, as well as two playgrounds. They even have a daycare, and a small indoor play area available on weekends -- very family-friendly overall. Now, a couple of serious downsides. The building is quite old, and during rainy season the roof leaks -- I've seen water dripping in areas like the café and even the gym floor, with buckets placed underneath instead of fixing the issue. That's definitely concerning. Another important issue is the parking lot. There is an exposed metal rod sticking out where a parking stopper used to be, right near the front entrance by the windows. I personally had a scary experience with it -- it pressed into my car wheel, and I was lucky it didn't puncture the tire. I reported it and even left a review about it, but a year later it still hasn't been fixed. Please be very careful when parking in that area. Overall, it's a place with great potential, strong programs, and a family-friendly environment -- but also with some issues that really should be addressed.
