Scott, a really nice life guard, told us we had to get out of the pool but we could get vouchers to return. The same lady told us we had to wait 30 minutes. We did. It was still pouring so we went back in for the voucher. She totally ignored us, working away at her computer. After 5 minutes of just standing there we left without the voucher. I understand though that it's due to reopen soon, with new decks and some other upgrades. The pools and dive well speak for themselves as top notch training/teaching facilities, but the fitness center is also a little gem, which has stayed open throughout. This is NOT a fashion gym - no cute color schemes or posing bodybuilders (although you may -like I was! - be exercising next to an Olympic champion who is also just there for the work-out), and no one is intruding into your routine. That's what I love about it: it's a place for everyone, with no judgment, no airs, and every age and body type you can imagine, just trying to stay fit and healthy. Lots of machines and free weights, you can contract with a trainer if you want, and it's inexpensive. Best of all it's never crowded. Can't wait to see everything finished!

After the…read morerenovations here, the Aquatic Center boasts the finest diving training facility in the Western Hemisphere--seriously, this facility is, especially for cliff diving, so good professional athletes come from as far as New Zealand to train here. The 27m platform is a true rarity: only a scant few dive towers in the world have this height and very few divers require it but by having heights above 10m (the highest standard Olympic height) Lauderdale is ready to meet the needs of future disciplines of diving. As a diver I am impressed by not just the facility on a physical level but the general professionalism of all involved in it. I cannot speak to the swimming facilities: aside from swimming across the dive well after a dive, I don't swim much. And I do understand that renovations are still underway which may frustrate some people as may the fact many aspects of the Center are dedicated mostly to professional/team development and not always open, but this facility is overall a true gem.

I went for the Aqua-Zen & Hydro-Fitness classes. The teachers were both great; energetic and engaging. The classes were a mix of people. Lots of boaters, but that might be true for anything in Ft. Lauderdale. Water aerobics is easier on the joints so while it's good for everyone, it's one of the few exercises people can do if they have joint issues, or are recovering from an injury. While it isn't the same as swimming laps, I was definitely sore after my first class. I also like that classes are often back-to-back. So if you're like me and want to do two classes in a row it's easy to do. Your first class is free. If you just want to try it, see what it's like, you can go at no charge to you. If you enjoy it classes end up costing about $4 a class. Much more reasonable than Soul Cycle or Orange Theory and still a great work out. And it's outside! I am a woman in my 40's and due to a very traumatic experience in my childhood (I'm talking mouth…read moreto mouth resuscitation here) I have never learned to swim. For the longest time I couldn't get my ears wet because I'd freak out. Having said that, I moved into a house with a pool and little by little I have been losing my fear of the water. I know I will never go in the ocean, but the pool now I can do. David's swim school is very close to my home and I always saw it, or their signs, and I would think to myself. "I should sign up and take lessons" I always rationalize that I would do it eventually, or the following year. And then Covid hit. Now over a year later I decided that enough was enough. I called and made an appointment to start swimming lessons. I am able to float and to swim under water by myself but I was absolutely nervous the very first time I went in. I signed up for 8 group classes, but because of my schedule and the pandemic, I have been the only adult taking the class every time except for one class. Everyone is very nice and both the instructors I've had have been very patient and understanding. They have taught me invaluable techniques to be able to swim. Am I an expert swimmer? No, but with the technics I have been taught I feel so much more confident in the water. It takes practice. I will most definitely take more lessons once my schedule opens up again. I know so much more now than 7 lessons ago. Facilities are clean and they have proper equipment, pool is heated and indoors. They have cameras with tv's outside so parents can see their children while they swim. Everything is more geared towards children, but they have lots of different programs for adults as well. Such as training, military and so on. I am glad I decided to take the leap. I would certainly recommend David's Swimming School to anyone.

Not to mention it's a lot less expensive and no automatic gratuity added to your check. (Watch out down there!) Plenty of bars, restaurants and shopping in every neighborhood. Las Olas is the main hot spot but other areas have so much to offer. I fall into the lazy trap of staying close to my neighborhood and frequenting the businesses around Galt Mile. It's walking distance from where I stay and it has everything I like. Someday I may relocate here permanently but for now I am a frequent visitor. I hope to experience all that Fort Lauderdale has to offer in the future.

This review is for the Masters swim team at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatics complex. What is Masters…read moreswimming you ask? Good question. Masters swim is a group/team for adults. You need to be a strong swimmer to participate but you do not need to be proficient in all strokes. Swim Fort Lauderdale offers up to four practices per day for competitive and fitness swimmers. Practice is one hour of lap swimming in a group. The coach gives different swim sets to keep it interesting. The age of SFTL swimmers varies from 18-85 (literally!). Competition in swim meets and events is encouraged but not required. The cost is $75.00 per month, parking is included with the monthly fee. Membership with US Masters Swiming is required. Fee is approximately $35.00 per year. If you have any interest in joining a swim group I highly recommend SFTL due to frequency of practices and the award winning coaches. Hey, try something new. You might like it!

They have multiple baseball fields, a little exercise spot with some machines, a nice playground for kids, and the best is the covered open field with artificial grass. Great for the rainy days where you want to get a workout in outside or on the extremely hot days where you want to avoid the sun. Bathrooms and cold water fountains are in 2 spots. Definitely worth checking out if you have kids and want to let them just run around! I saw a vending machine as well that takes cards and cash.
