Even if there's a line, it's pretty quick. They have a lot of flavors and combos to choose from. I've purchased brownies, popcorn, and even a cup of chili here so don't be fooled that it's just a soft serve place. Every now and then, Carl D's does a fundraiser for a good local cause like giving back to the Humane Society. A business that is invested in the community is one that I like to support.

We stopped by on a summer weekend afternoon after hitting up Chip's for lunch up the street. They had three flavors of soft serve - chocolate, vanilla, and the special, blue moon. There were four basic sizes (mini, small, medium, and large), plus additional listings for sugar cones and waffle cones. I inquired about the difference between a small and a medium. Their servings are extremely generous, so I requested a small in a sugar cone. Apparently the price listed for the other cones aren't an upgrade, it's just that sugar cones and waffle cones have their own set size, with a sugar cone falling between a mini and a small. I decided to go whole horse and just get a waffle cone. It was five visible swirls plus what was in the cone, all for the low, low price of $3.11 after tax. The soft serve itself was thick, creamy, and as mentioned, very chocolatey. Sometimes soft serve chocolate can taste more milky than anything, but here the chocolate was the star. While we were trying to make up our minds before ordering, the woman working brought out a tiny cone with blue moon for the folks ahead of us that had a baby with them. She then later came out to offer them a bottle of water. Her actions didn't have any bearing on me, but it's that kind of above and beyond service that makes you want to cheer for the place. We head up to the general Rapids area a few times a year and I'll definitely have Dairy Treat on my list for a return visit or ten.

They helped a woman ahead of me select a drink and were upbeat and positive the whole time. I got a blended latte and was impressed by how the flavors all came out without being too sweet. I could still taste their high quality coffee. I also love that they open at 6:00am because most local coffee shops don't open until after I am at work. Don't get me wrong, I like apple cider donuts just fine, but let me level with you...I would pick a caramel apple over a donut any day. We were in Stevens Point for other reasons and decided to stop by Casey's Orchard to see if they had any caramel apples. There were signs directing us to the little store they have on their property. We went inside and found a friendly older couple in there, and the air was perfumed with the aroma of fresh apples. We were offered a sample of any of the apples, and the only one we decided to try was winesap. We bought a handful of the winesap apples and lo and behold, they did have a case with some petite caramel apples in it, so we bought two of those as well. The caramel had formed a crispy shell around the apple, and it made for a nice treat. The whole purchase set us back about $5. The cash only shop carries apples, apple cider (but they were out when we visited), honey, jams and jellies, maple syrup and pumpkins.
