Sam is a good man, honest, experienced, prompt, and reasonably priced mechanic whom I highly recommend.

Brought my car in, went over some paperwork and was told I'd be contacted once the inspection was complete. Sure enough Matt called me to let me know there were some items found during inspection and which ones needed to be addressed right away. After agreeing to the updated quote they got to work. I came back to the shop prior to being told my car was ready, and I think there may have been a delay in getting parts needed (dropped the car off at 9am, wasn't done until 4pm). Other than that, the quoted price is what I paid, there wasn't any pushing to buy a service that wasn't needed. I will definitely be bringing my car back for the additional work needed.

I requested a quote through Yelp and my request was sent to multiple auto shops. I chose this…read morecompany based on location and called ahead to confirm they could do more than just read basic codes. I had already done my own diagnostics and knew the car was running rich. I had ruled out the upstream O2 sensor, catalytic converter (both new), MAP sensor, and fuel injectors. I explained all of this to Matt before bringing the car in. He assured me they could perform deeper diagnostics with their equipment. After dropping off the car, Matt called and told me they had "confirmed" exactly what I had already told them, and that the next step would be pulling spark plugs--for an additional fee. At that point, I decided to go elsewhere. What I don't understand is why I was still charged the full $85 diagnostic fee, plus a $4 hazardous materials fee and $3 shop supply fee. Plugging a car into a diagnostic scanner does not generate any hazardous waste--no fluids are drained, no chemicals are used, and no parts are replaced. There's nothing about a basic scan that would justify a hazardous materials charge. That kind of fee typically applies when disposing of things like oil, coolant, or other regulated waste, none of which occurred here. In the end, I paid $92, wasted time and gas, and learned nothing new. The most concerning part was Matt admitting he didn't even know spark plugs would need to be checked as part of further diagnosis.

My Pros: Paul was the main guy who I consulted with and he…read moreis overall very chill and cool guy (complimented my taste in music, thank you~). He has great customer service at the front desk and answered any questions and concerns I had. He offered a rental car or a free ride back home (which is the services they provide). The driver was very kind, friendly and safe driver. My car went in for diagnostics, after inspection, I gave a go to replace the clogged CAT. They gave me a very great inspection report, full with pictures and easy to read descriptions (I also very much like the 3D video explanations to which parts they are referring to). For now, it runs a lot smoother and I'm very happy with how my car runs (I haven't driven it long enough yet). I drive the most in my family, so it feels great to get things I need done now. :) My cons: I would say communication could be a little better. I had dropped my car off 5/29 and didn't get it back until 6/12. It's the longest I've ever had my car stay at a shop, and I will admit I was uncomfortable with how long it stood there. I did feel strung along the entire process, as I was told multiple different dates when my car should be finished. I had to call the shop a good number of times to get an update and I hate having to call to ask the same question over and over (felt like a kid on a road trip constantly asking "are we there yet?"). So, I'm not sure how their process goes about when taking in cars, if maybe they take a little too much than what they can handle time-wise or if maybe scheduling an appointment with them would make a difference? I didn't find out what the issue was until I had come in to pick up my car, to which I am very understanding that things happen, but I wish I was informed during the phone calls I had made. I'm aware of the excessive amount of problems there are with CAT's and they had informed me that the CAT's were being stolen during transport before they even reach the shop or customers (which is such an issue in itself, that ticks me off), so the shop had faced delay due to those circumstances that were not in their control. :) Overall: Pretty good and very kind set of guys that work there. Communication with the customer could be better, so I didn't have to feel left in the dark. Would prefer accurate finish dates and with explanation if there is ever delay (I did refuse a rental car in the beginning because I was told inspection would be done the following day if not till very early next week, but then a few days became 2 weeks) so, definitely want more accurate times to plan my days that I don't have a car. :)

I hired this mechanic to replace the cinching actuator on my Tesla. Immediately after he completed…read morethe work, my car began making loud, abnormal noises that never existed before. My door handles started making a loud squeaking/horn-like sound. When I opened my trunk, it sounded like it was malfunctioning or "dying." The same noise occurred when the trunk closed. When I opened my doors, the noise came from the trunk again. Even when I backed into my driveway and pressed the brakes, my car made a loud honking sound. All of these issues began after his repair. I contacted him immediately to let him know something was clearly wrong. Instead of taking responsibility or offering to inspect the problem, he became defensive and accused me of lying. He claimed the issues were preexisting and said I had tampered with my own car. He talked over me, became argumentative, threatened to cut business ties, said he would block my number, and abruptly hung up on me. He also blamed me for "self-diagnosing," even though I was simply describing the symptoms I was experiencing--something any customer would do. I hired him because he is the mechanic. It is literally his job to assess, diagnose, and fix problems. Instead, he refused accountability and demanded I pay him an additional $250 just to run a diagnostic to determine whether he caused the problems. Every reputable mechanic I've worked with in the past has stood behind their work. This one did not. He then sent me a disclosure form he wanted me to sign stating that I would only receive a partial refund if he decided the issues were his fault. I did not agree to this. When I didn't respond to his repeated messages, he texted again saying that after "some thought," he would now be willing to refund only a "portion" of what I paid. I paid him $350. When I declined to pay the additional $250 diagnostic fee, he argued with me and repeatedly stated that because I said no, I was "accepting that this is the end of the issue," then hung up on me. To document the abnormal noises, I opened and closed the liftgate several times. During this process, a panel that concealed the wiring fell off its hinges. A Tesla-certified mechanic later told me this was because the panel had not been screwed in correctly. I ultimately had to hire a Tesla-certified mechanic to fix what was done. Based on the symptoms I described over the phone, he immediately recognized that the wiring had been done incorrectly. When he inspected the vehicle, he confirmed that multiple connectors were improperly rewired, including the liftgate being wired into the speaker system and the trunk light being wired incorrectly. The horn was sounding as a warning that something was wrong. This was not only careless -- it was a safety concern. This mechanic was rude, dismissive, unprofessional, and completely unwilling to stand behind his work. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution Tesla owners and anyone with a modern vehicle against using his services. *** This is in response to Jane's response. PLEASE READ as this is very important. James claims he offered a "warranty check," AKA "diagnostic," but only if I paid him an additional $250 for his time. I declined. At that point, he repeatedly talked over me, read a disclaimer aloud without allowing me to respond, and ignored my polite requests to speak. He then told me he was "ending this relationship," said he would block my number, and abruptly hung up on me. He did not offer a full refund--only an unspecified portion of what I paid. I uploaded a photo of the revised invoice he sent after damaging my vehicle. In that invoice, he attempted to insert a disclaimer stating that I would accept a partial refund only after he decided whether he caused the damage. The document does not specify any refund amount. Had I signed it, I would have forfeited my right to a full refund. After my Yelp review, I sent James videos from a Tesla-certified mechanic explaining exactly what he did wrong. He incorrectly reattached the wiring, connecting the liftgate to the speaker system, which caused the loud horn noise. On a Tesla, this sound is a safety alert indicating faulty electrical connections. James presents himself as an honest professional. My experience was the opposite. I was spoken over, yelled at, threatened with being blocked, and treated with hostility when I simply asked questions about the damage done to my vehicle. I have never been treated this way by any business before. Based on both his conduct and the documented mechanical errors, James is not qualified to work on electric or modern vehicles. His behavior was unprofessional, aggressive, and manipulative. I strongly recommend that anyone with a newer or electric car take their business elsewhere. Quantum Mobile Mechanic is not on Better Business Bureau. I reported him to the BAR (California Bureau of Automotive Repair).***
