Had the pleasure of meeting Swieners last night at Green Flash. You should see their web site to see the whole story and video of what a Swiener is... but mainly it is this: Take a baguette bread. Cut it in half. Push it down on a spear to open a hole lengthwise. Add some condiments to the hole. Shake. Add some optional melted swiss cheese into the hole until it oozes out. Insert the meat dog of your choice into the hole. Can a food be more sexual? I don't think so. Or maybe it can..wait...now I am getting distracted. This is not (at least at this point) a traditional food truck operation, though I can see it would work better in a food truck. They set up an EZ-up canopy and fired up the equipment. Equipment is mainly three items. Bread spearer thing.... grill for the dogs... and the cheese melter. Think half a wheel of swizz on a pivoting arm to go under the heat. The helpful person (ask for recommendations) takes your order, writes your name on a paper bag. Bread gets put in bag. Both are on a spearer. Cheese dude grabs bread and reads bag. Adds bacon bits of jalapenos to cheese wheel, puts back under the heat source and gets it more melty..then scrapes the cheese into the hole. Grill dude shoves meat of choice into hole and calls out your name. It is very serial. I ordered three dogs and they are made one at a time. So you get your name called 3 times. All good. I went with the beef frank, the pork frank, and the brat. All with Swiss. All with jalapenos. Bacon bits on the pork one. Condiments... sure... they put stuff in there. Food is not cheap... with the swiss is $9 a dog. But it is good. I think your average guy will want 1 and 1/2 dogs...or two dogs. Seems like a good business idea. I wish these guys well and will seek them out again. It is a wonderful pairing with Green Flash because amazing beer and Swieners are like heaven. read more

These guys rock, the Swieners are a perfect amount of food when your getting your drink on. fist you have to decide on what one to get .Traditional German Brat, Spicy, Pork, All Beef, Chicken Apple (my fave) or Vegan. once you decide they will pour into this little cave of moist bread any of the following Ketchup, Mustard, Dijon Mustard and Swiss Onion Sauce (caramelized onions- Swiss Family Caniglia recipe) Now comes the magic ! they melt this from a wheel of cheese "Swiss Mountain Raclette cheese" then you can Add paprika, chili flakes, jalapenos, or bacon bits to your melted Raclette. Then they stuff you Meat into the moist hole and well.....your stuck holding a hot Swiener in you hands. They know me as "Chicken Apple" if you ask them they will tell you the funny story why : ) I just had another one last night I went with the chicken apple , Swiss Onion Sauce ,Dijon,bacon bits ,jalapenos and melted Raclette. Yum! Well made sausages, served in a hollowed out baguette. It doesn't get much better than that, oh wait, yes it does. Add lovely melted cheese inside the bread, and it's a meat, cheese and bread jamboree. If you find this food truck, be sure to stop by and get a sausage with cheese. It's totally worth it. Can't say I'm pleased with Swieners. Was at Ballast over the weekend and ordered up a Brat with raclette cheese - was a bit expensive @ $9 for what it was. My big problem was the total lack of service. After initially having a nice conversation with the workers, they said they would bring my food to my table in 5 minutes. 10 minutes later I go up and ask where my brat is and they say I am next...20 minutes more and I am back up and after ignoring me for a few minutes they find my food on their table...already prepared and getting nice and cold. I mentioned that it was probably cold and the guy puts the wrapped dog on the grill. Now by the time that thing heats through it's gonna be burnt on the outside. They just really didn't seem to care that it took 30 minutes to get me my dog; nor did they really care that I was ignored and my food had gotten cold. BTW - flavor was nothing special but it would have probably tasted better if the experience had been better and the food was hot. read more

One star because you don't take cash at December Nights. It's part of customer service and makibg it ease for customers to do business without you. It's 2018 guys. Get a Square and pay the 2.75% discount fee. It's called the cost of doing business. read more

This place was a little pricey for a street vendor. Food was just OK. Wouldn't recommend it.

These things are really really good. Had some at the Gladiator Rock n' Run at Barona last month. I know they are pretty new to San Diego, hopefully I can run in to them again soon to try another one. read more
