I received a text message about scheduling maintenance as part of my membership. I responded saying I was in Ohio at the bedside of my dying mother. I was at her side watching her die for 15 days. After she died, I called to schedule service. I was advised my membership expired 4 days ago, and I missed the window for the included services. I could not believe what I was hearing. I don't participate in rating a business online, but after being what I believe was WAY OVERCHARGED by SWICK, I felt obligated to inform as many people as I could, that may be looking for a plumber. When our usual plumber wasn't able to get to our home for a few weeks, we decided to call Swick. The problem was with a shower faucet that kept whistling and squealing. Long and short - a leaky faucet. Swick plumber showed up and spent about an hour, assessing the situation. He told us that he was going to try to find a part for the faucet. I texted him a few days later asking if he found the part and he had not. He told me he could find a shower/faucet set similar to what we had. He text 2 pictures, with no cost, and we picked one. I looked up the cost of the faucet set he had text online and they ranged anywhere from $105- 241. So I wasn't too concerned about the price. Swick plumber showed up to install the new faucet set. His time installing the faucet set was approximately, 2 1/2 hours - 3 hours tops. Plumber asked for payment before he left. The charge was $1794.99!!!! When asked how much the faucet set was, he said he didn't know. Really? I contacted SWICK, and asked for an itemized bill. Guess what??! They don't give itemized bills. They bill by the job. I spoke with a manager. She said she was sorry for my disappointment, but they don't give itemized bills, only estimates. Beware!! Make sure you get an estimate from this so called business. So let's do the math: First time at our house: 1 1/2 hours tops. We'll give him 2 hours! Second time at our house: 3 hours tops Total: We'll give him 5 hours total! Faucet: $105-241 - We'll give them $300 Mileage Fee: $144 ($72.00 per visit -We live 18 miles from SWICK's office.) Bill: $1,794.00 Total Charge Minus 300.00 Faucet Charge Minus 144.00 Mileage Fee $1,350.00 $1,350 divided by 5 hours = $270.00 per hour!!!! VERY EXPENSIVE, lesson learned. NEVER AGAIN. Horrible experience! Swick's technician , Steve Parsons, gave me a bid of $1,768.00 to fix two small valves....i was shocked by price and asked him how much pressure relief valve itself costs...he said $800.00-$1,000.00 retail. I was surprised by that amount but reluctantly agreed to his bid. The following day I looked up the value of that relief valve and it retails for $105.00!!! So, Steve lied straight to my face, twice, in order to overcharge me! He took advantage of an older lady thinking he could get away with it! I had Swick to service a stove to turn off gas and connect back on. The first man came to turn off gas and he said I would get a bill and his stay less the a half hour to do this service. The second kid that came did not know if he could do this job but said he would try and coded me a price of $189.00. He was there for 3 and a half hours and 2 burners did not work.I received a bill for $495.00 for my first service and contested it by phone and was given a second quote of $120.00 but was told the second man stayed a lot longer which I said the stove dose not work and I needed a second man to complete the job at the cost I was quoted. The job got done another 3 hours later at which time I was told I need a new hot water tank and furnace. I will not ask them for their service and seek a professional company. read more

Do not trust this company or anything they tell you. They have been ripping off residents of the UP for years, ask any person you run into and they will tell you, stay away from Swick. I moved here and made a blind choice to have them install my new pump and tank which I had bought. The guy who came out said they didn't know how to install the tank and I had to buy one from them. I paid half upfront, the quote was over 3k for a tank, filter, and installation. The installers came out and put everything in but it didn't work. The installer could not figure it out and left without finishing the job. He said the other half would be due when the technician came out and finished. I called them for two months with no answer and no replies. After five months of no water in my house I fixed it myself. One of the crimps they did was faulty causing an air leak that kept the tank from pressurizing. After six months of ignoring me they sent a letter asking for the other half. I sent it back telling them they did not finish the job they were hired for. They sued me for the remainder plus court costs. The representative didn't even look at me when we talked in arbitration. He just sat slouched in his chair looking at his phone and talking like my fixing the fixture myself was like me working for them, regardless that they did not honor the contract which they never gave me a copy of. The guy who was in court before me was also being sued by them for the exact same thing. Promises were made and not fulfilled. And why in the big wide world would the arbitrater of the Michigan 96th Judicial District refer to a Swick representative as her "partner in crime"? Do yourself a favor and save the grief. I have had Swick Home Services do a variety of jobs at my home. Danny has been the service tech taking care of each and every issue that has arisen in my home since my husband passed away. He is not only knowledgeable, dependable, and reliable; he is also friendly and goes the extra 10 yards to provide exemplary service for me. When you are a widow, you have to place your trust with a company and a service tech that meets and exceeds these criteria just to be able to know that you will have heat, air conditioning, and water services when you need them. I feel I have this reassurance from Swick's and in particular Danny. Sometimes in life there are things that provide a feeling of comfort to you - and having a gold star program with Swicks being on speed dial is definitely worth its weight in gold to me. read more

They installed a combination boiler and in-floor heat. The mechanical room is like artwork! They also installed two mini-split AC units. The plumbing looks and works great. Called first of November for a estimate on a simple job and scheduled a appointment. Waited 6hrs for someone to show up for 5 minutes and take pictures and left saying he would call me. 2 days later I called again. No estimate and said someone would call me. 3 days later still no call. Basically a month later still no call. Now I've used them in the past and each experience was not good. Last experience was a simple furnace maintenance cleaning and replace thermostat which took 2hrs and $700 later!! I could mention the other experiences but you can get the picture. I have been using Swick since we moved to Marquette in 2016. During that time, I've bought a furnace, a generator, and a toilet from them. We've also had them do a couple of small plumbing jobs. I've always known that they charge top dollar but I was reassured by them being a long-time stable company. I thought they would always take care of me. I was wrong. When I called recently to have annual service on my generator, I was told that they had decided to no longer be a dealer for that brand and wouldn't be providing parts and service anymore. This leaves me high and dry because the closest dealer is now almost 100 miles away. I tried to get someone to talk to me about some kind of continuing support for a good customer but I was always put off and promised that someone would call me back, but never did. This is no way to treat a loyal customer and at this point, I will never call them for anything again. Over the years, I've spent $30,000 dollars with them and this is the way I am treated? Called setup appointment, the guy showed up on time..took pics an measured piping this Friday now...said need to get back to shop an talk with the master plumber....would call or email, gave email...an waited. Monday came an went, by Tuesday 3pm I called them, lady answered said no estimate was done that she could see sn guy who did it was out of town...but might have just not turned it in yet..would check with him, an have him call me..Wedsday afternoon 2pm get call from him daid he needed to have my sewer pipe scoped, didn't like looks of it because it looked old an was cast iron...said lady from shop would call me an setup appointment for that...that was Wedsday July 22 still waiting on calling August 6th now...guess my cash isn't green enough for them or job too small for them.. read more

Whatever you do, don't waste your expect anything from their "Goldstar" service plans. We have been paying for "Goldstar" on furnace, ac and Generator. Furnace and AC service has been good, but since we've not had any issues, nothing to judge it on. Service tech was nice and did his annual physical without any issues. On the other hand, the Generator "GoldStar" was a waste of my money. Got mail in January from Generac that they will no longer be supporting 3G transmitters, and we need to upgrade to WI-FI. Not a problem, except when I called Swick, they didn't know anything about it and I am still (6 months later) waiting for a call back on when they can install the WIFI transmitter. Then two weeks ago, we received a "RPM generator fault", and the generator won't start. Called in again, again two weeks later, still no return call. So basically, if not for another dealer, I would have a $7000 boat anchor sitting in my yard. read more

DTE sent us a technician from SWICK as they have a contract with the company to fix central air conditioning. The technician who came was so stupid, he didn't even start the unit and spent about 30 minutes(most of the time spent in contacting DTE) and telling us we need a new unit. We are not so stupid. I had to write a review because I had not intended to go with Swick for my heating needs. I had seen the bad reviews and been told they were expensive. I wanted to go with a smaller local company but called Swick to get a comparison bid. Both sales guys were knowledgeable and extremely nice and sent me bids in a timely manner. Both systems were expensive, more than I wanted to pay since I had a newer furnace, it just wasn't big enough. I called the smaller company to come back out to give me more ideas and a general idea of pricing on them which they did. I finally decided what direction I wanted to go so e-mailed and left a vm for the smaller company of what I was thinking and I would like new bids. No response. Did it again, no response. While waiting, Swick called to see if I needed anything more from them. I told them what I was thinking and Norm came back out and several days later sent me bids. The bids were right in the ballpark of what the other company had mentioned so I reluctantly hired Swick. The process of having my room heater installed upstairs and gas fireplace insert in the family room could not have gone smoother. I have only good things to say about Swick. The room heater had not arrived by the appt date so my work was done in 2 appts vs one which was fine with me. I wanted the gas fireplace asap so I could use it. The installers were very friendly, professional and yet a sense of humor. When done they cleaned everything up completely and gave me a tutorial. The room heater was the same experience. Different installers but once again extremely nice, professional AND they put up with 2 dogs in their way as they worked without looking at all irritated. Everything once again was spotless when they left. I am totally impressed with Swick! read more

Disorganized business practices and if there is a problem with their service good luck getting someone to call you back. It took them six weeks to give me an estimate for my shower. Oh My, where do I start, I called Swick because my furnace quit and it was a real cold day. One service person arrived in a reasonable time. when he met me and saw that I am elderly it seemed like his eyes lit up. I showed him he furnace that I had partly apart checking the igniter. I keep igniters on hand as they are so fragile and fail often. I went back upstairs and let him work. after about 15 minuets the furnace came on and he came up and said it's fixed. Said it needed an igniter and a flame detector and that would be $750.00! I told him that was way too much, he was there less than an hour. His reply was he could take the parts back but I would still have to pay $500 and have no heat. I gave him a card number. He had me initial the bottom of his form while he held it in a way that kept me from seeing what it said. I could go on and on but you can see the sort of company Swick is! Don't walk, RUN the other way, don't go anywhere near that place. They will try to cheat you any way they can. or figure on going to court. read more

In the spring of 2016 I had a tub replaced by a walk-in hydrotherapy shower unit that cost in the five figure range. It was a major undertaking for us so I wanted to be sure about this change which required a significant amount of reading and consultation. At first I was going to go with a nationally known franchise with its colorful flyers that had the Michigan HQ about 400 miles away. I happened to mention it to salesman Norm Balko who was overseeing another project in our home when he responded that "we can do that". I had only thought of Swick as a basic heating and plumbing business since I had never seen the more elaborate unit that I was seeking displayed in their showroom. He stated that they had done a number of these types of showers that included the rain pan head, wand and body sprays with double sliding glass doors. If it had not been for Norm then I doubt that I would have contracted with Swick. He was patient with my numerous questions, did not try the hard sell, gave me several options with good explanations, had the company's bean counter explain my financing options, went through a lot of online choices to get the selection of parts correct and he handled problems with vendors that were not the fault of Swick. Far better experience than I had several years ago. These types of projects always have some problems. Some are just a glitch and others need work to correct. The minor and major ones were handled without delay rather than anyone arguing with me or being dismissive of our needs. There was none of that garbage of "that was not included" or " you misunderstood" or any other stuff that the more unethical pull on customers. A couple of changes were negotiated fairly and equitably and the project (after two minor additions were made) came in only 2% over our original budget. Most and best of all is that I never had an interaction with any employee who showed any discourtesy, rudeness, impatience or intolerance. They seemed to want to be sure that I was satisfied at the end. Everyone from the receptionist, to the accounting department, to the plumbers and the main installer (hello Steve) were a pleasure to talk to and clearly answered and explained anything that I questioned. As hesitant as I was to begin this project was as content as I was at the end. It is a few months later and there has not been a callback. read more

Bruce P. put in several hours of hard work for us this week to get to the bottom of a noise coming from our furnace. He could have easily dismissed our concerns, as the furnace was running just fine (this was only a yearly maintenance check), but he did the investigative work, determined the cause of the noise, and worked tirelessly to fix it. Not only is Bruce amazingly skilled in his trade, he is a genuinely personable and nice guy. We appreciate the fact that when we call Swick, we can request Bruce. We had swick come in for multiple jobs and the guys were very personable but unfortunately we had a few issues. We overlooked the boot covers left in an outside planter, broken glass left in a bucket in our back yard, a bucket of nasty water left in the basement and scheduling issues by telling ourselves "no biggie it happens" but after all that and then finding the very poor job that was done reinforcing the floor joists (they had to remove a portion to move plumbing) and the mislabeled electrical panel I'm very unhappy. We were told by others before we called them that they were one of the most expensive but we figured you get what you pay for and we wouldn't have a problem with their pricing if everything was done to a higher standard. We have a lot more work that needs to be done but we are looking for someone else to do it. I will say that the boiler, plumbing, and electrical panel they replaced so far are all in working just fine. read more

A word of warning about Swick Home Services, absolutely awful service which ultimately led to me having to waste hours of my time filing complaints against them. I had heard awful things about them in the past and they were sent here by Homeserve which is a heating system insurance for repairs that I have through Semco. Were out at my house numerous times because their 'master techinicians' could not figure out what was wrong with my furnace. Failed to show up on two occasions when someone was sitting here waiting for them all day, called at 4 and said they wouldn't be coming and didn't even apologize. Did not run anything by me before hand, simply did it and told me later. Charged $294 for 20 minutes of work, no parts. That was just one of over $1500 in bills from them. All was a waste because it didn't fix the problem. The best was when they sent someone here to 'make things right, free of charge' and then sent a $263 bill for that free service call. Blocked my boyfriend in the driveway for 20 minutes while they sat in their van and he sat in his truck, with it running, waiting for them to get out of the way. Technician told me to call the furnace manufacturer so they could tell me what was wrong with it. I told the technician what was wrong with the furnace, isn't it supposed to be the other way around?
