Kendall and his team at Tree City Woodworking, one of the Boise area's best custom cabinet makers,…read morecreated two pieces of custom furniture, a desk and bookcase, for the office in our home. My husband and I are delighted with the finished product as well as the process of working with Tree City from the first concept review meeting with the interior designer through design detail reviews through delivery of the pieces. Not only are the construction details perfect, the finish work is superb too and work was completed in budget and on time. Kendall is an experienced and talented craftsman who has a great team working with him and he runs the business with integrity to result in quality product and commitment dates both met. Our high expectations were exceeded. HOW WE FOUND TREE CITY: We were introduced to Kendall by the interior designer working on making our new house a home and it was she, Angela Incelli of Les Bois Interior Design who is simply fantastic in the work she does, who developed the design concepts for the furniture. She set up a meeting for us with Kendall and it was clear he and she had a working relationship of respect and trust built on previous projects as she asked for and he offered his input on the design, wood species and finishes. Kendall is excellent working in collaboration, as is Angela, and they had follow up meetings, some including us, to finalize details. At one of of the meetings Kendall had a to scale cardboard mock up of one of the pieces for final decision making. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Given our experience of working with Kendall on custom furniture, in Tree City we have complete confidence whether you are looking for custom cabinet work or case goods furniture that Kendall has ownership of quality outcome from the beginning and the experience and business skills to manage work schedules. Top notch all around, we highly recommend Tree City Woodworking. Were we building or remodeling in Treasure Valley, based on the experience we now know Tree City would be at the top of our list for cabinet subcontractor or custom case goods.. ABOUT US FOR CONTEXT: Sometimes it is helpful to know something about the reviewer, so I'll share that for context here. This is our fourth custom home in the last 23 years, the first in Idaho, and we have worked with great cabinet makers in other venues so we know what a difference it makes. Our regret is that as new residents of Eagle eighteen months ago when we started working with a local custom builder that we didn't know enough about Kendall's business to ask the builder to use Tree City for cabinet work. The cabinet maker our builder insisted on using had many quality control problems in both construction and finish which the owner and builder chalk up to being "too busy". Over a year after move in (and a hefty cabinet bill which we were not "too busy" to pay) my husband is still working with the builder's chosen cabinet maker on steps to have the defects resolved.

His installers are excellent, with keen attention to detail. Kendall designed two beautiful rustic walnut pieces for our home: a cabinet for our living room with floating shelves above, and a highly functional work station for our office. We are thrilled that we chose Tree City Woodworking!

The only other review here was about them not getting back to the customer. If he was anxious to use them again he should have called back. There are mistakes that happen no matter who you are so a followup can resolve that problem. His review was not about the quality nor pricing...it was a complaint about a failed followup. I understand the disappointment but not a one star.

In addition to making top notch cabinets, Jaymark's millwork shop makes real wood trim mouldings…read morefor case, base, crown, sills...you name it they do it in woods that are both stain grade and also paint grade. They have a fantabulous wood shop and hundreds of knives to run mouldings from their extensive in house catalog for all sizes and combinations for styles from contemporary sleek to traditional classic to as ornate as someone might want. If you don't find just what you want, they'll create a custom moulding for you. We used some of their stock wood mouldings in our home and had others custom done and their product was great. They were also on time for their production schedule. A refreshing spot of professionalism among a sea of largely laggards selected by our so-called custom builder, Jaymark delivered the quality product they promised when they said they would. Dave Streight, who is the customer contact person for the mouldings piece of this business, was fantastic to work with for knowledge and help in decision making. A really nice man who knows his stuff. Interesting to note it was not our builder who recommended Jaymark to us, but we found them on our own. My husband and I also had Jaymark on our list of top two subs to make the cabinets. Alas, we agreed to use our builder's "go to" guy at our builder's strong recommendation. The builder's guy was a nightmare to work with. Jaymark is a professional cabinet shop with a designer or two on staff and quality control processes to make sure all works just as it should. Located in Garden City in one of the non descript small industrial areas, inside you'll find a professionally organized showroom. Likely best to call for an appointment, but you can walk in too. Highly recommended. In this era of production building using MDF and polyurethane artificial products, it is a rare thing to find such a top notch millwork shop. Use it or lose it. We were building again or remodeling, Jaymark would be a destination for us. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Small private lot. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Once in the door all is level and on one floor. Standard height seating in a conference room for design meetings. There is a curb cut to access sidewalk from parking lot but it is almost always blocked by employee car parked in front of it. 3) SUB ZERO / WOLF APPLIANCES TOO?: I recently heard that Jaymark is now an authorized dealer for Sub Zero for refrigerator / freezers and Wolf for cooktops / ovens. (Both of those brands are in the same parent company.) We used both brands in our home and once again had a marginal experience with our builder's favorite supplier. If we were doing this again and Jaymark is selling these as I've heard they are, they would be out dealer of choice for them too based on past as prologue excellent experience with Jaymark as business.

He experimented with different stains for two weeks and came by our place twice to check options against the original wood in the other room. Before the job he offered a few different options (direction we wanted the wood to run, how did we want it to look near the cabinets, etc.) and then during the job he came up with a few ideas to make the final product even nicer. For example, we have a skylight and he lined the interior of that with the same wood and it looks fabulous and really finishes the room. He also used trim to finish the edges. Matt is a true craftsman who takes pride and great care in his work. He is also super professional: he was always on time, communicated well before, during, and after the job, and his pricing is competitive. We would use him again in a heart beat.
