I have only visited this bakery twice now, but man what yummy treats they have. Fresh, and delicious donuts. So soft and scrumptious.

Very good homemade bake goods. Located beside the Rox City Grill in Roxboro. Super nice couple who own and operate the bakery.

The shop has the display cases right when you walk in the door and there is a little cafe area off to the right which seemed cute. We were greeted when we walked in and the girl who helped us gave us plenty of time while we decided what to order. I asked what her favorite thing was that they had and she told me the danishes or the cheesecakes. I ended up ordering several things to try: a glazed donut, glazed raspberry filled donut, powdered raspberry filled donut, cheese danish, chocolate chip cookie, and cinnamon roll. The donuts and cinnamon roll were given to family who already knew how good the donuts were and we tried the chocolate chip cookie and cheese danish. The chocolate chip cookie was huge, chewy, and had a great flavor. I think my favorite thing I tried was the cheese danish. The dough was buttery and the filling wasn't too sweet. It was a great suggestion from the girl working there. Also, all of this was under $18 which is crazy. Will definitely be coming back.

But, I do need to advise anyone who is unwaveringly accustomed to the Italian and Portuguese bakeries of New England (at least in the 1980s), and similar places, the pastries here aren't quite at that level. The pastries I tried were a little dense and shriveled, with a slight sour taste (which could've also been due to some uneven baking, erring on the overbaked side). In an apple filled item, the small amount of apples weren't quite soft and sweet enough, as well. Overall, the pastries were nearer to those of a very talented home baker than the polished work of a traditional professional pastry shop. Of course, for this specific region, this will be an enjoyable stop. With that in mind, I'm not surprised there are long lines; it must be very exciting to encounter a shop like this for the first time. There are very few other bakeries making pastries of this type, much less good ones. It's very, very hard to make excellent pastries. But, if you come from a land rich with bakeries, just set your expectations appropriately. Plus, there is the critical difference between New England and North Carolina bakeries: Would you rather have pastries that are sensational from sullen and unpredictably snappish people? ...or pastries that are decent and charming from laid-back and friendly people?

The sign out by the road made me a little skeptical but I convinced my husband to turn around and let me take a look inside- I was sure glad we did. It has an abundance of everything you can think of if you like to bake or just enjoy to eat. I have been wanting to bake pumpernickel bread forever but finding all the ingredients just never happens but I was thrilled to find Every variety of flour from medium rye meal pumpernickel to einkorn. They even had the malt powder. Home I went to bake up my first loaf ever and it was excellent! The have all sorts of things, if you like to bake- thickening agents, Sugars, flavorings,...a variety of jams, cheese, meats, baking pans, gadgets... They have fresh baked bread-we brought home a loaf of sourdough bread- regular loaf style but was fresh and pretty good. Planning a trip back with some friends, there is a nice new cafe in Roxboro- Incorrigible Cafe, will grab lunch there and then head over to Yoder's for something different to do. There is also an old school house and jail in town. I believe you need an appointment to go inside. Also prices were good compared to Whole Foods. Worth a trip if you don't live nearby.
