Situated on the side of the Open Market closest to the Rag Market, a few rows in from the edge, the sweet stall is a throwback to the time when confectionery didn't come in fancy, colourful plasticy packaging but instead was sold from vast jars and carried around in brown paper bags. You mightn't get the brown paper bags and jars here, but you do get all the old favourites in all their gaudy glory - we're talking boiled beauties like gobstoppers, pear drops and aniseed balls, fizzy sweets like cola bottles as well as chocolate drops and many other classics.
Suffice to say, if you don't like sweets there's not a lot of point in you checking this stall out. However if you are into sweets, or just need something sweet to suck on a long journey then this is a good place to come because there a re plenty of bargains to be had. read more
