Fried rice with a side of wings!
    Kristina P.

I moved here recently and Sweet Escape was one of the first places I tried...and I was NOT disappointed! I'm Vietnamese myself and when I had the fried rice, I was expecting mediocre but bruh, let me tell you there were 8 pieces of shrimp and it tasted like one of my aunties made it. I also had the taro boba as it's one of the basic things I always try to test out a place. It was pretty good and the boba itself was thankfully sugar & tea soaked so it wasn't tasteless. I'm only taking off one star because although the wings had a nice kick and crunch, they were too dry for my taste. Definitely going to come back to try their coffee and banh mi next.

I love this place! So nice and reasonably priced. Their bahn mi are my favorite. My daughter loves the smoothies.

Quite unexpected to get this kind of heat from a boba spot but hey, I'm glad we stopped here. The Carne Asada fries were good.. like really good. My husband always orders the good stuff... Versus myself who got a Carne asada quesadilla and you would've sworn I ordered a cheese quesadilla with a sprinkle of meat!! I was so disappointed. I should've followed my first mind and said no cheese. PLUS it was greasy as idk what. I'm going to try the no cheese option next time and let ya'll know how that goes...

Wow! What a sandwich! If you have never tried Banh Mi don't pass by Sweet Escapes hungry. Beef or Chicken are phenomenal and what a find so close to home. And, if you are staying away from dine-in restaurants they even have a drive thru.

    vietnamese coffee

SO. GOOD. the food, the drinks, the vietnamese coffee. strong, but made to perfection! i'd recommend the chicken bahn mi with extra mayo!

Coconut milk tea with coffee jelly. Perfect pick me up. Great place to hangout and snack.

The decor was whimsical and the overall theme was based off of one of the best animated fantasy film My Neighbor Totoro, hence the name of the cafe. House Milk Tea was made with Assam Tea, the drink was incredibly delicious, the flavor of tea was bold and it complimented the snacks very well. Totoro Mochi Donut is the perfect place for anyone looking to relax and unwind after a long day. They also offered boba tea and Korean corndogs. I ordered their sweet potato covered k-dog half mozzarella & half beef with their sweet chili sauce. As well as the Jasmine milk tea. Both the tea and k-dog were okay to me. I prefer the options to have the sugar on top and to put your own or add as many condiments/toppings as you want like at other spots. Here you get 1 topping/condiment free and any additional costs extra. This was my first time trying a Jasmine milk tea instead of the Wintermelon or brown sugar one and it was not as sweet as those. I barely tasted the flavor, just mostly milk. Maybe that's how it is or how theirs was. But I don't have to have this flavor again. I would probably try them again and get different flavors of the tea & k-dog.

KFT is one of the most successful Boba chains in North America, it's from New York City and caters more to the American crowd, but still has some really good products despite using questionable tasting tea. They have a really nice owner here, and the lemon black tea is excellent. That is my go to drink. I'm definitely a fan of KFT, and a huge number of brand new locations have opened up lately. I'm not really sure why, but this one is cute, and located in a good position as well. It's kind of a way off the highway, which is great for the people in these parts to have a Kung Fu Tea without having to drive into Houston, or to New Caney or The Woodlands and such. The milk teas at KFT don't really do it for me, they're different, but not awful, however the fruit drinks are great, especially when you get them with black tea, which they might adjust for you if you bat your lashes. What to get: Lemon Black Tea With Tapioca! Or: All the fruit teas are pretty good, especially if you go off menu and get black tea! Or: Go crazy and order your fruit teas with the very strong Oolong! Or in winter: Any of the hot milk teas! Which milk teas are best: Honey Oolong! Oolong! Maybe Taro or Almond! I also love the regular milk tea with Oreo! And here's a rap: My Generation might sometimes prefer WHO TEA If they were Shakespeare they'd be Taming Of The SHREW TEA If they were a Native Tribe then they'd be called SIOUX TEA Hurry up and get your *ss directly to Kung FU TEA They started in the 00s, and since then they really GREW TEA One is never enough in fact you should order TWO TEA Tastes so good it makes me wanna drink from Barbie's SHOE TEA There's no better Lemon Black than this Kung FU TEA Dip your wings in it and it'll be BLEU TEA If the Boba's squidgy, maybe you can CHEW TEA If this tea was human, you would wanna SCREW TEA Come and have some sexy boba now at Kung FU TEA WHAT

But drinks, spring rolls, banh mi, vermicelli/rice plates are also their jam. Definitely on the pricier side for Vietnamese food and not truly authentic (but guess it's pretty far from Alief / Bellaire here), but I enjoyed the flavors anyways! ** 5 spice tofu vermicelli: this beautiful plate came with big fluffy pieces of tofu that were nicely fried, but the tofu itself had only a hint of the 5 spice flavor. It came with a very sweet, light fish sauce (?) that amped up the flavor, and there are sriracha and hoisin sauces on each table if needed. The medley of carrots, cabbage, and cilantro added some crunch and color. It wasn't oily or overly filling, and I'm happy I tried it :) ** BBQ pork banh mi: solid banh mi with some pickled veggies inside. Take out the jalepeno if you don't like spicy! The pork is a little on the fattier side. We added a fried egg as suggested by the staff (man, eggs are expensive right now!), and it was a little overcooked since we usually like the slightly runny yolk for banh mi. The bread wasn't overly crispy that it poked the roof of your mouth. ** Shrimp tempura: more of a fried shrimp than the Japanese tempura style, but still tasty! These came piping hot with pickled carrots too. Doesn't taste very "shrimpy," which may be good depending on who you ask. It's a clean and sort of fun, airy atmosphere. You order at the cashier first and the water, utensils, boxes, etc are self-serve. The staff were friendly. Definitely bring a jacket-- they had fans circulating cold air and it was chilly! Would return for their lunch offerings if in the area and to try the drinks and bubble waffles :D
