The hubs is a huge movie buff and loves the theatres here. A good variety of concessions and an arcade provide the bulk of entertainment before you head off to watch your film. Inside, you'll get plenty of room, a large screen, and air conditioning. Some of the theatres have reclined seats for even greater comfort. The big screens have truly been a testament to man's ingenuity. Your concessions are overpriced, as is tradition. For over $20, you can get a combo of popcorn, a snack, and a drink. You can get away with much better quality if you decide to dine in first, especially at all the nearby restaurants. Tickets have also been getting more expensive, but I think there's a designated day where you get tickets for $4. I'm afraid you'll have to check it out for yourself; I got the discounted price when watching Barbie on a Sunday, but the following Sunday, I had to get full-priced tickets for Oppenheimer. What you end up with is the typical Cineplex experience; a selection of all the hit movies delivered to you in all its IMAX glory.

You're reminded of the 70s and 80s in here as the chairs are old, the style of theater is that of an old one and so is the audio and video equipment. Don't get me wrong, I come by for the chance of watching throwback classics as they play old movies and independent movies. It's fun to watch movies you grew up to on the big screen but the movie experience isn't the greatest. For newer independent movies in a newer theater, the World Exchange usually gets some. Either case, those theaters are far from sitting in TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto. For more throwback movies you can check out the new Mayfair that opened in Orleans or the newly renovated Mayfair on Bank St which I believe are much better theaters. Coliseum recently had a throwback movie month and played classics on their modern screen with modern audio and video and that was amazing. The nostalgia is great here but honestly with the Mayfair that opened in Orleans and the renovation of the Mayfair on Bank St I really hope the Bytowne follows their lead.

My wife and I have been frequenting this cinema on countless occasions past and this is the first time that such a situation arises. It's almost as if the cinema operator turned the volume down on purpose. I repeat: this low volume situation has n-e-v-e-r happened to us throughout the countless films we've seen at this cinematic complex, save and except for the movie: "Sound of freedom".

I recently went to this theatre for a late showing and accidentally left my sweater behind. I realized my mistake as soon as I got home (just past midnight) and immediately called, leaving my name, number, and a full description of the sweater in their voicemail. The next day, I went back in person to look for it and speak with someone, but the sweater had completely disappeared. What's especially frustrating is that this was the last show of the night, so there weren't many people left, and I called right after leaving -- it really should have been easy to recover. To make matters worse, one of the employees working that night (Isabella Ghattas) has personal issues with me from the past, and she made my friend and me feel extremely uncomfortable with dirty looks all evening. I strongly suspect she took the sweater as some kind of petty revenge. I explained all of this to the manager, asked them to look into it, and even suggested checking the cameras. They did absolutely nothing. This sweater wasn't even mine -- it was a meaningful gift from someone very important to me. Losing it over personal drama from an employee is incredibly unfair and shockingly unprofessional. I felt completely dismissed by the management and very unwelcome as a customer. I wouldn't recommend this theatre to anyone who expects even the most basic level of honesty, professionalism, or customer service.

The seats are average theater seats (not like some of the updated ones around town), but they still have everything you need to enjoy the movie, including adequate comfort. There is a small concessions stand even an area with arcade games. I am a huge fan of air hockey, and while it's a really Loud game (pucks hitting the edges) for such a small space, it's still good fun, and the theater is loud enough anyway. This theater is also super close to home for us, so I'm happy to have it!

The Mayfair has a lot of character, not flash, and the movies that are screened there reflect this. It's the kind of place that features cult classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and gorgeous documentaries like Jiro Dreams of Sushi. It is cash only, so remember to stop by the ATM, before you get your tickets and popcorn.
