I came here in December with intentions to see Avatar 2. Online, it said they had a regular 2D showing at the time I went for, but when I got there, it was 3D and they didn't have any regular showings. I need glasses to watch movies, and it's a real pain to wear 3D glasses over vision glasses, not to mention 3D movies give me a headache and they honestly don't look that much different than 2D movies. I ended up leaving and going to the Landmark in Kanata instead. Staff and cleanliness are fine. read more

Cineplex has really tried to upgrade the movie-going experience in order to compete with at home rentals and streaming. I have watched movies in RealAVX, RealD-3D and D-box and they all had made the experience that much better. The reclining rocker seats were strange the first time I tried them because I never really felt comfortable purposely laying down on public furniture like I was at home, so I actually watched the first half of the movie sitting up until my neck hurt, then I tried the reclining function and man did it make a difference. The seats are wide and so comfortable. It was a long day at work so I actually fell asleep for a bit, it was so comfortable. Now when I enter the theater, the first thing I do is recline and snuggle into my seat. This mixed in with theater popcorn (which is always a treat) makes for a pretty epic experience. Ticket prices are reasonable, especially on Tuesdays. The price of food still leaves little to be desire, but when you think of the experience you get and the cost to run a theater, I think it makes for a nice outing. To put it into perspective, think about how much you pay for a meal at a decent restaurant. It really is no different. To speak about this specific location. The parking available is decent and haven't had any issues finding parking. The main lobby area is spacious, but could be cleaner. When you walk up to the food counter and there is popcorn spilt all over the place, sticky counter, and the candy shelves look like a tornado hit it, it makes it easy to not want to buy anything (but I still do because I love theater popcorn). This has been my experience the last few times I have gone. I definitely recommend everyone try the D-box experience at least once (advice: watch an action movie like Star Wars. Why have I been wasting my money at Lansdowne when they friggin have recliners at this location?! Everything else is standard, it's just a normal Cineplex location.... BUT WITH RECLINERS. I love this location because of the leather reclining seats! These seats are available even for general admission. It gives so much leg room and just room in general between seats. I also love how you're able to reserve your seats when you buy the tickets. It comes in handy when the room is full with only front seats left. It gives you a heads up for what's available. This location is big in general. The arcade area is big and full of games. The staff are friendly. This is our go to place for movies and worth the drive. read more

This is my neighbourhood movie theatre, and while it isn't my favourite in the city anymore (Silver City you've won it with those ah-mazing reclining seats!), it's certainly the one I frequent most often and a good option for those living in the west-ish end. Located right down the street from Bayshore Shopping Mall, getting here is pretty easy for drivers and public transit users alike. There's a ton of parking (my pro tip: always go around to the back of the building to park - there's more spots and it's easier to leave when the movies over) so you needn't be worried about finding a spot 5 minutes before showtime (though the lotis massive, so get there early to avoid hoofing it across a large mass of pavement). The theatre itself is pretty decently sized with two floors and has 12 screens. One thing I love about this place is the UltraAVX3D because I'm clearly a movie nerd. Nothing's better than extra large seats, reserved seating (I love this idea!) and awesome screen sharpness. There's a party room for kids birthdays, and I heard that they also rent theatres out for grown ups to play video games upon request. The service here has always been above par. The employees all seem pretty young, but they must train them well because they're always friendly and sweet and never forget to call us guests and tell us to enjoy our show. Love it. There's also a Shoppers Drug Mart right beside the theatre if you, like me, are cheap enough to byoc (bring your own candyyy). read more

I don't venture out to the movies that often (I am the kind of person who loves watching them at home in pajamas with lots of blankets and junk food), but when I do, it is usually to make the man happy! This theater is going under some construction right now. They ripped out the arcade area, so I am not sure what they are putting in that area. Right now it is all cement and is an eye sore. They are also adding in another burger joint. (Cool, more expensive food!) Love all the close amenities right next to the theater, like tons of shawarma restaurants, pizza restaurants, and shoppers drug mart. Would like to check it out again once the renovations are done. We went to this theatre with free tickets to see "The Last Stand", which turned out to be a good movie after all. I was concerned before seeing it, because Mr S's movies tend always to be so full of guns and blowing things up and thugs and such, but there was a good story line here, and some comedy, which made up for it. The theatre is fine, as far as movie theatres go. They had cineplex magazines which helped keep us busy while we waited in line, but it was so dark in the theatre before the movie started, that I couldn't read it! But the seats are very comfy (I could have taken a nap!!) and leave a reasonable amount of leg room. UPDATED JANUARY 23 2015: Yet another free movie pass ("A Most Violent Year") - Unfortunately did not enjoy this movie much; it was very slow. The movie itself would garner only 2 stars of 5. :-( But I'm bumping the theatre to 4 stars 'coz the place is actually good - although it has changed hands; it's more contemporary now. I only just realized that this movie theatre is no longer called the Colliseum; it comes up now in Yelp as a Cineplex. I got the following info from WikiPedia: This theatre was "Originally opened by Famous Players as Coliseum Ottawa, this was Ottawa's first modern megaplex when it opened in 1998." FURTHER UPDATED APRIL 16 2015: Saw a preview of "The Age of Adaline". This movie was excellent! A surprise thriller (I won't give it away here), which I would encourage you to see. Blake Lively did a terrific job in her role of Adaline, but it's the story that carries you through to the end. read more

Cineplex Cinemas Ottawa in Britannia Heights on Carling Road, is one of the best movie theatre venues in Ottawa proper. Easy to get into... easy to get of... plenty of free parking, comfortable reclining seats which are in great condition. The theatre is clean, features eleven cinemas, with competent and friendly staff. And for those who want more than popcorn and candy, coffee lovers can enjoy a cafe with their matinee, thanks to an albeit small, Starbucks coffee station. read more

So, for quite a while now, this Cineplex has fully reclining seats in ALL of its auditoriums. This is the go-to theatre for my girlfriend and I and honestly, we love the reclining seats. They're exactly the same as the VIP ones, just that there's more of them packed into the room. There is no point in paying extra money to go to VIP (unless you really crave the food service). I've also always found this cinema to be clean, which is a huge bonus. Everything else is quite standard. read more

We dropped by recently to watch to watch Transformers 3 in the UltraAVX theater and boy was I excited!!! Assigned seating, check. Blockbuster movie to enjoy the upgraded audio/video, check. So why the 2 stars? I think the AC was broken because a bunch of us found it extremely hot and humid in the theatre. The 3d glasses suck. They are those cheap ones that had spacing in between the top, bottom and sides so depending where you sit you may not get all 3d. Yes I'm being picky here but there are theatres offering amazing 3d glasses that are almost like a visor and cover all your lines of sight. For $16 for a movie they should be providing these new glasses. The audio and video are awesome though and the seats are very nice. read more

Recliners! RECLINERS!!!! I've been watching movies at home for the longest time because of the comfort factor. As my body ages, the thought of sitting in those old theater seats made me cringe. And, factor in the cost of food on top of the price of admission, it wasn't the type of experience I wanted to endure. That all changed yesterday when my wife and I went to see Wonder Woman. It was like sitting in our own home cinema that I have come to really enjoy. I can see myself going to this cinema more often now. There's only one thing that is preventing me from awarding that 5th star. The screen in Cinema 3 has stains on it. They are barely noticeable, but once you see them, you can't un-see them, and that affected total enjoyment of the movie experience. read more

Your all-around average movie theater. Ok, well maybe it's a little above-average. The food choices are definitely above-average; there's practically a whole food court inside this movie theater! I've never before had the opportunity to chow down on a Whopper and fries while watching a movie before! But being above average isn't always a good thing. The number of people here seem to be above-average, and the prices are also above-average. A few weeks ago, I faced my son with a strained grin on my face, asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday, and mentally chanted, "Not a party at home. Not a party at home." "I want a party at the movie theatre!" Sweet. I called a month ahead of time, and my first picks for dates were all available. Based on last year's experience, I'm going to guess that four weeks is the sweet spot, since everything was filled up when I called with less time to spare last year. We were given a time slot and told that the actual movie and time would be confirmed the Tuesday before the party, which is when they get their schedules. Everything was so well orchestrated. As the guests arrived, they were escorted to the party room. There were big pitchers of drinks (and complimentary coffee or tea for the grown-ups). Once everybody was there, the pizza was placed in the oven and served in a few minutes. Don't like pizza? There are other food options like hamburgers and hot dogs. You just need to specify in advance. After eating, we were brought to our seats in the theatre. We watched the movie while our stuff was secured behind the locked doors of the party room. I'd definitely and happily plan another even here. read more

This theater provides a lot of nostalgia for me. Before there was ever the "colosseum" (old theater name) there was a drive-in theater at this location. When this theater was built, it was the latest and greatest creation, and quite the experience for young and old alike. We have come a long way since then, and there is now a lot of competition among theaters based on: concessions, comfy seats, and layout of the building. Filtering in and out of the cinema can be awkward as well as most of the theaters are on the second level so a bottle neck forms when everyone leaves. I do like that this theater still has a pretty decent arcade, so it can be more than just a quick movie experience. Other than that, these days it's nothing special but still a good place to catch a flick. read more

I went here for the first time on a little double date for their cheap movies on Tuesdays. It's only about $4-5, so we thought we'd have an inexpensive night out and watch The Town. Since the lineup was so long with people of all ages, we used the express debit/credit machines to the side - so much more convenient! I was excited to find both Yogen Fruz and New York Fries there, but my boyfriend and I ended up ordering a chicken burger with poutine from Burger King, and nachos, peanut M&Ms, and a large root beer from the theatre food stand. Theatre food always costs so much more than its worth, but at least the nachos weren't stale and the albeit processed cheese was hot. The mini versions of the fast food restaurants don't offer the full menu and their prices are also twice as much as they should be. We ended up spending much more on the food than we did on our actual tickets. The theatre was pretty big, and though it was fairly packed and we ended up sitting near the front, it really wasn't too nauseating at all. I did get a bit of a headache, but it was a good movie, so my headache disappeared pretty quickly. I actually really liked this theatre, so I think I'll be going here from now on for my movie-watching needs. read more

There is an arcade with a good variety of games for you to play, enough washrooms and the theatre rooms them self are quite big, also with reclining chairs. Haven't been to movies in ages, but finally decided to go here. Must say that the reclining seats are definitely better than the old seats they used to have. Nothing worse than sitting in a longer movie and your butt is going numb because the seats are uncomfortable. Overall the experience was alright, only negative would be that the specific concession line we were in was super slow. read more

I used to come to this cinema a lot when I lived in the area. I think it was a coliseum back then. It's huge and somewhat dated, but they've upgraded a lot of their cinemas. Now a few of them have full on leather reclining seats!! These things are flippin amazing. This is what gets the 5 stars. They are so comfortable and relaxing. I watched Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in these seats and they were marvellous. After the movie was done I didn't want to leave. I felt like napping instead. read more

This cinema is fantastic, I went for the first time today and it's my new go to theater, they have the best seating like leather reclining seats and a massive arcade as well. The only thing that I found odd was the fact you have to go upstairs to get to the theaters, like the rooms are upstairs, but there's a lot of seating so I think that it's just for the seating. It also has a crazy amount of parking, unlike most cinemas. It's definitely worth going out of the way for. read more

This is one of my favourite theatres in Ottawa. I love the Ultra AVX option to reserve your seats for busy shows. The theatre is quite packed on weekends and Tuesday nights so I would recommend showing up a bit earlier if you're attending a movie where you can't reserve your seats. Concessions are a little overpriced, but that is par for the course at all theatres. read more

I personally love this theatre the best! Even though AMC (Now Empire Theatre's) has better popcorn, the sound quality is night and day! Unlike the AMC there is no loud echo with chipmunk voices, there is bass, and the treble is loud but not over the top. The seats are more comfortable also. Not as many theaters but still better overall than AMC. Even the screen quality is better. IMAX is also better than AMC's! read more

I'm beyond understanding how such poor customer service and support can exist in today's day and age. Before purchasing a movie package for a night out, I soon realized the obvious flaws in the Scene app I was using for the first time in this type of purchase, which was supposed to be a simple process, turned out to be a horrible experience from beginning to end. Upon calling Cineplex, since Scene seems to think people don't go to movies on Sundays, I asked why it worked that way, and then for a solution. I had more than enough points to purchase two tickets, two drinks, and popcorn. However, each time I tried for over an hour to do it online, the Cineplex website first failed to allow the correct seat selection, unless I did it on my iPhone app. Regardless, either way I tried, the concessions part of the package failed to make it through both websites. When I spoke to the person on the phone at Cineplex, she assured me that all I needed to do was present my barcode for the tickets and the drinks and popcorn would be included. She even replied with an email explaining my concerns in detail. Once I got the Cineplex Ottawa theatre on Carling Av., I first went to the machines to scan the barcodes emailed in my receipt. After several failed attempts I went to the concession stand to ask why. I was told the barcodes would be scanned by the person standing by the theatre entrance. I asked why there were so many machines and no signage explaining such an important point. He seemed to have no answer. I continued on to retrieve the concessions part of the package. After explaining my conversation with Cineplex head-office, and then showing him the email, the young teenager couldn't seem to help without calling over a manager. Ten minutes later, a man who claimed to be the manager came over. Again more wasted time was spent explaining my entire ordeal, including showing him the email which should've been given more respect than he rudely gave to it. He brushed me off like I was some customer trying to get free drinks and popcorn, and the email coming from Cineplex was meaningless from a lowered tiered employee not knowing what she was talking about. When I asked how it was even possible for all this to happen, he began getting adversarial, lacking any customer service skills whatsoever. Once I told him I would be taking it up with the head office the following day, he became even ruder and offensive. I was so upset, I was ready to just leave the theatre, however, my friend convinced to me not do that for sake of what was truly poor management since I could end up losing my Scene points I already spent on the evening out. If I had paid with a debit card or cash, I would've demanded my money back and left the theatre to watch the same movie at any other location than there. read more

I really like the Coliseum! The service is consistently good and the treats are, well, what you would expect from the theater. The price for a general admission is pretty good, compared to other theaters,and the theaters are kept pretty clean. Starting with the concession and food court, I guess it's great that they have so many food items to choose from, but I myself would never pay a week's salary on a Whopper combo. Wouldn't it just be easier (and cheaper) to go somewhere before the show? The popcorn is pretty standard, and it's they will give you a flavour packet to put on if you like. Topping is self-serve, which I am not a big fan... It's now really tough to get it layered like they would do for you before. If you buy a large popcorn or drink, they give you one free refill (I am not too impressed with that policy (for obvious reasons). The theaters are pretty decent, sound and picture quality is great. The UltraAVX theater is awesome, but even if it is more comfy, I am happy to suffer through the regular chair and 2D experience without paying the hefty surcharge. Sometimes, the movies are a bit too loud, as my daughter keeps telling me. The bathrooms are generally clean enough, really big and can accommodate many people. One question though - why no dividers between the urinals? Best thing about Ciniplex is the movie coupons I get from Airmiles! They also have the Scene rewards program so you can save a bit off treats and earn points for free movies! Beat that AMC! read more

Incredibly poor customer service. Has Cineplex merged with United Airlines? Booked two movie tickets an hour and 1/2 before the show. Show up no seats available. Go to the manager.Told too bad so sad. Told if I want to go to the 3D version another 45 minutes later I have to pay an extra $10 for the two tickets. Absolutely no hint of "sorry" "here is a complementary ticket " could not care less. Definitely not going back. Will wait to watch at home-cheaper and no customer disrespect. This is the movie theatre of my choice! Instead of going to AMC (now Empire) near my house, I decide to drive 20-30 minutes to get to this one! Their prices are good, and I love getting free movie tickets using the Scene Points. Although food is overpriced (but then again, which movie theatre isn't?!) I like the fun and lively atmosphere and the new system they have (called AVX or something???) which makes movie picture so high-def and sound is incredible! read more

Not horrible but not great. Definitely not my first choice. The service is mediocre and the food is OK, as far as movie theatre food goes. I tried to use the self-serve kiosk to pay for our tickets and buy concessions, but the movie time we wanted wasn't showing up. I thought for a moment that maybe it was sold out, so we stood in line at the counter. Turns out the movie wasn't sold out. It just wasn't showing up on the kiosk, for no apparent reason. At the concession stand, I ordered the kids combo for my son and was told it came with popcorn, a small treat and drink. I assumed we'd have a choice in what the treat was since you do with the adult combos, but it wasn't until after I paid that I was told there was no choice in the small treat, so we were stuck with M&M's... and at that point we were asked if my child had a peanut allergy... a little too late to be asking that question, in my opinion, if that was the only treat available. They really should have more drink options for kids, unless they want people to start bringing in their own. Not all kids like high-sugar fake juice and pop. My son doesn't like anything other than apple juice, water or milk, but he was stuck with having to choose between a slushie and strawberry or orange Fruitopia. I suppose he could have had water instead but I'd already promised him juice (since I didn't think it would be that big of an issue) and considering what they charge for the combo I would have felt ripped off just getting water. When I asked if he could try just a small sip of the Fruitopia to see if he'd be OK with it before giving him a whole cup full, the staff member was hesitant and about to say no, until another staff member told them to give us a courtesy cup. I ordered a coffee for myself and had to wait a few minutes for it to be brewed. When I went to put in cream and sugar at the condiment stand, all they had was a sugar substitute. I had to go back to the counter to request regular sugar. After getting our food, I asked if they had hand sanitizers on the walls anywhere near the theatres so that we wouldn't have to carry our food and walk all the way back to the washrooms just to wash our hands before eating. I was informed that there were plenty of them near the theatres. How convenient, I thought. But when I asked the person who took our tickets where exactly I could find one, they said that while they were everywhere, none of them actually had any sanitizer in them at all for the last two weeks. When I asked if there was someone who could attend to that, they responded by saying no, because they didn't have any sanitizer in stock to fill them with. Really, for two weeks? What's the point in having them installed if you have no intention of keeping them filled? This meant we had to carry all our food and drinks to a different level of the coliseum to get to the washroom, far from where our theatre was, just to get our hands clean before eating (maybe this wouldn't bother some people, but when you're pregnant, have a young child with you and you've just touched a bunch of money in the middle of flu season, it may matter to you). All of these little mix ups and delays added up to taking over 20 minutes of our time and we were late getting to our seats... and not because of long line-ups, as there weren't any. This meant we didn't have a choice in where we sat, so our seats were horrible. If you're going to use this theatre with children, bring your own drinks and sanitizer and plan to arrive an hour early if you want to make the movie on time and have your pick of seats. read more

Went for the second time to see an Advanced Screening at this location (this time 'Eyes in the sky' which is an excellent movie btw). They were well organized and seats were comfy. Theater was clean as well. read more
