A steak place in the lower level and a very large breakfast and lunch area on the main, you won't have any trouble getting a table. Cool log cabin type wood with lots of cool Northwoods decor. The service is very quick and efficient mainly due to the fact that they have plenty of servers. Kind of a rarity these days. The breakfasts are simple but huge and very tasty. And don't forget about the coffee. Much to choose from and a great value. And lots of made from scratch items.

We rolled into town and stayed at the Best Western. We asked the staff for pizza recommendations…read moreand they said they had just ordered from Sammy's. The service was fast and helpful. It was busy and they let us know the pizza and breadsticks we ordered would be about 25 minutes. It was spot on. We order the Sammy's Special to go and it was delicious. The crust was thin and crispy. I can only imagine how good it would be fresh at restaurant instead of to go. The breadsticks were thick and fresh. We did order Alfredo sauce and got pizza sauce instead but it was still very good. I will definitely come again when we're in town for lacrosse.

This place has always been a go for my family. Healthy portions and well made food. But lately…read morethings seem to be going backwards. I got a pizza last night for instance, and there was such a small amount of cheese on the pizza that I could see the red sauce just as much as the cheese (see picture). There were a bunch of younger kids working in the back, so maybe they just aren't taking their time or measuring as much as normal... but regardless, when I pay over $27.00 for a 14" pizza? I expect it to be darned good! I mean, that cost me almost 2 hours of working to afford that pizza. And that's what I get? I'm going to start going to the blueberry bowl in deer river from now on. They are extremely generous with their toppings and they don't cost as much. It's worth the drive when you're paying so much for Sammy to hold back on you!

The food was largely amazing in a good way. The service was particularly disappointing. Our meal…read moretook over two hours, and it very much seemed that the staff believed "sorry we are busy" and a free desert would make it all better. More details below. The food was excellent, except for the falafel. I've never had falafel before that wasn't crispy on the outside. I'm not sure if the dish sat for a while before being served, or if The Pines simply serves it non-crispy. It was soggy. The great food included: Chicken, Scampi, Sea Bass, Walleye Tempura, Popovers, Potatoes, Beets, Cauliflower. All of these were excellent and everyone at our table was so pleased. The service: I'm not sure if I will return. It is unlikely. Our initial round of food appeared very quickly. Things slowed down after that. The rest of the food took an eternity to arrive. I truly considered asking for the bill and leaving before our mains, but we were treating friends. My tiny water glass kept going empty, and finally someone asked if we would like a carafe of water. Yes, yes indeed. Beverages were in general slow. We were told that we would receive a free desert, and asked for the menu. When she came to see what we might order, we had to ask for the menu a second time. More slow. What fun. I privately let our server know I was quite disappointed prior to the bill arriving. I was crystal clear before we ordered that I was to receive the bill. The bill was left on the table with one of my guests. I provided my credit card, and again the bill was left with my female guest. Did you even look at my name on the card (an obviously male name).
