The Swan isn't a bad little place but overall it's all a bit Meh/OK - I guess the context has to be that this is a pub in the middle of nowhere that does a good job of what it does, where as the roasts in places we regularly frequent in Manchester are on a different level.
Service was super slow, the young girls waiting on didn't really seems to have any direction or experience but this wasn't an issue, you just put it down to the situation.
I had the prawn tempura to start which wasn't too bad but batter was a little too heavy to be authentically tempura and I followed it with the Pork roast - Yorkshire puds were nice, pork was ok, veges were a mix of over/under cooked but the gravy wasn't great at all. Just far too much thickener put in which you could really taste and this obviously went all over it - not that great to the general taste then! Fairly low cost though with 2 courses being £12.
Beers were a selection of local bitters and standard lagers, softies etc.
I don't want to be too harsh at all because I'm sure lots of local people will love it and like I said you have to put context to this but once you've had great Sunday lunch experiences it's hard to go back. read more
