Atlanta Pet Care Center

While my family and I visited Atlanta during Hurricane Irma we needed a shelter for Lady Bast (our…read morecat) fast. This place was located near my moms house, so I really ended up choosing them out of convenience. I was concerned because it was a new place, I had no idea about who they were, and anytime you have to board your pet it can be a gamble in a new place. All I could hope for was the best. It's not like our furry friends could tell us if they were mistreated. But, if you know them well enough, you could tell. Boarding fees vary by the weight of your pet. Any pet weighing zero to fifteen pounds costs fifteen dollars. We paid fifteen dollars to board Bast, she was there for five days. It was thee longest five days ever! I called them to check on her and each time they told me she was doing great. What else could they say, right? I had to trust their word and keep it moving. When we picked her up she looked a little shaken up but I could tell almost immediately, she was fine. Bast is a little aggressive with strangers and the worse thing would be for one of these centers associates to react to her aggression and do something hurtful to her. After a few days at home with us we could tell she was back to her normal self and probably forgotten all about us leaving her.

I used to rate 5 stars but declining customer service of front desk/reception folks leaves me…read morefeeling rattled most times when I go there. This may not matter for those that don't need vet services very often. Vets and techs are very good. I've talked about my concerns about the front office staff/manager with one of the vets, but no changes. One receptionist in particular needs customer service training. I was checking out with another receptionist, who was very nice, and my acct showed a lingering $22 charge. I said I didn't believe I had a balance. The unhelpful woman I avoid pops over because it needed to have 2 people to confront one customer? - she was immediately confrontative, challenging about me owing this $22. I'd thought they were thinking of an add-on lab from April but I paid it from home back then already and she challenged me no, they don't have online pay, so I couldn't have paid, and she's shaking her head. Ok maybe I didn't pay online, then it was over the phone but I paid it from home somehow, that I know. I've been there many times since without issue of owing $. It went like that for a bit - while my 90# dog is pulling on his leash, I'm trying to find my glasses so I can search my emails on my phone, arthritis, age and other disabilities aren't helping here, and I'm being treated like a bad customer (which I am not) - in an environment where I'm not prepared to respond effectively. I have no idea what they are talking about...were they saying a lab (the test, not the dog) got added after the appt? If so I wasn't aware of it & I wasn't billed. At some point I said I hadn't been there in August. "Yes YOU were! You WERE here in August!" [Oh, was I caught in a lie? ] Oh , ok, yes, I recall I was there in August, but I paid for it all before I left. Nothing changed after the appointment. Or, just say what the charge is for, with specificity, for example, it's for urine cortisol, then maybe I'd recall it and it would've been a 2 sentence discussion. But that didn't happen, they just said "an add on" like I work there and know what they're talking about. I've been going here for 15 years. Expected to be back next month. Maybe I'm not trying to screw anyone out of $22? Just a thought. Finally she glances at the computer. Something got added, twice?, after the fact, so I don't owe them anything. No apology. Just walked away. It is fine for there to be a misunderstanding about charges. A bill mishap isn't upsetting to me, if I owed something for whatever reason I'm perfectly happy to correct the error and pay it. It wasn't ok how this person treated me, she was *determined* to convict me (over $22 which is also hilarious). No apology, just an about-face. This is the attitude I face going there. My dog is/was a frequent customer. I do not want to take him for his monthly Cytopoint injections or anything else. They didn't used to be like this. They used to be amazing. This is a trend not an incident.

Funny thing, I had done all the rIght things but if I had gone to the vet it would've been less work for me and my grandma dog wouldn't have suffered so long with the itching. I've been a client of Stone Mountain Veterinary Hospital for almost 10 years now. I share my life…read morewith six cats so a good veterinarian is actually more important to me than my own doctor. Dr. Nicole Aponte and every member of the staff at SMAH have proven over the years to be my greatest ally in the care of my pets. Dr. Aponte is thorough in her examinations and takes the time to explain everything to me. She knows each of my cats by name and remembers their history and frankly this is better than I manage on a daily basis. If I ever have questions or concerns she addresses them in terms I can understand. Over the years she and the whole staff have taught me to administer sub-Q fluids at home (saving tons of money for me and lots of stress for the feline who needed them). They have been a shoulder to cry on when it's time to let one go off to the Bridge. They are, quite simply, they people I trust completely with the pets I love. This place isn't fancy, and located down a drive off Memorial just eat of Hairston (just west of the entrance to the Wells Fargo) you might miss it. The much more fancy, state of the art hospital is located on Sugarloaf Parkway in Snellville and this is just a short drive if things like orthopaedic surgery is needed. My Phoebe had to have knee surgery when she was only 16 months and Dr. Brown did a great job out of Snellville. If you live within 15 miles and don't see this vet you are missing a great opportunity.
