I've been ordering fresh fish from Svenfish almost since day 1, and EVERYTHING about it is top notch. First, the fish itself is the freshest I've ever had the pleasure of cooking. It always gets raves from guests, when we take dishes to parties, or most critically, from my family. Second, the service is impeccable -- I'm sure there must occasionally be complications, but every single delivery I've had has been when promised; I don't think twice about counting on the delivery to prepare the same evening for dinner. Finally, I love the personal touch that Sven brings to the entire enterprise. He regularly shares recipes which I enjoy, and often has specialty items available. My wife and a number of our neighbors are huge fans of the fresh scallops. My daughter, who formerly would not touch fish at all, is now disappointed if I don't order swordfish every week, and my son and I are truly addicted to the sushi-grade tuna :-) Over time, we've branched-out to try many other varieties of fish which we'd never cooked before too -- always with great results. read more

I grew up on the Jersey Shore fishing off the beaches and jetties for Striped Bass, bluefish, flounder, fluke and other, offshore for blues, tuna, etc., so I'm very, very picky when it comes to buying seafood. I went to a tasting that Svenfish gave and tried the scallops, hake and oysters. I'm telling you stop going to Whole Foods or any of the other fish guys. He gets the fish right off the boat, literally drives down there and has developed relationships with some of the boats to get the freshest catch you can. The scallops were just the best- you can truly taste the difference. The Hake, an underutilized species, tasted like the best Haddock I'd had and that was before I knew it was actually Hake. The oysters were fresh and delicious (he let us try shucking them and I'd give us a C- grade for results, A- for effort....) I suggest you, at minimum try it out. We have one of the world's great fisheries right here in New England, yet most Bostonians rarely taste the best that it can offer. Svenfish changes that. They bring seafood from the docks straight to my door. Deliveries to our town are on Wednesdays. I usually order the "Captain's Choice," an up-sized selection of the most plentiful catch that week. While they'll usually accommodate requests, I like the suspense of opening the box to discover whatever's inside. I've rolled a sushi-grade tuna steak in sesame seeds and lightly pan-seared it. I've made a rich bouillabaisse, delicate white wine and garlic steamed mussels, savory grilled marinaded swordfish and chowder. The quality is inspiring. After we joined a CSA a few years ago, the supermarket vegetables started looking like they were made of plastic. Now Svenfish has me skipping the fish counter as well. read more

OK - What are you doing? You live this close to the ocean and are NOT yet buying Svenfish?!? You HAVE TO TRY THIS! No grocery store or fish market can compete with Sven's morning drive to the docks followed by a cooler full of fish on your doorstep by dinnertime! Svenfish has changed my whole relationship with cooking fish at home. OK - I grew up in Ohio, so came late to this party. But I can never quite believe how much tastier REALLY fresh seafood is. I would recommend that you start with the scallops, salmon or tuna - all are sushi-grade-fresh, and can be served seared on the outside and just warmed inside. I usually end up popping a couple raw scallops in my mouth while cooking (and I would NEVER have done that before Svenfish). read more

I will echo the other reviews here and say that Sven's fish, by far, is the best fish we've ever purchased. We were encouraged to order by a friend in September of last year, and we've been weekly customers ever since. Our family is typical in that we get sick of certain kinds of food if we have them too often... prior to ordering svenfish, we'd only cook seafood once or twice a month in order to avoid burnout from the "fishy" taste. Now we're eating fish 2-3 nights a week, sometimes more... the "crazy fresh" slogan is spot on--there is a clear difference in taste between this fish and any fish I've ever bought from another store. If you live in or around Concord and you want the freshest seafood you can buy, Svenfish is your answer. No matter what our family orders, we are always very satisfied (and we are Portuguese). The seafood is always available, fresh off of the fishing boats and delivered directly to your home. When you get your package, it came off the boat that morning. If you don't know what you need, they will recommend the best of the best coming off of the boats (Captains Choice). It doesnt get any better then this. they meet the fhishing boats and hand select the best catch...if it isnt up to their standards they contact you for a replacement or refund. What can be better than getting fish fresh from the boats - and delivered to your door if you want it! Have been eating fish every week now that I can always rely on great quality, so having Svenfish in our lives has definitely improved our diet - not to mention made me try new recipes. I didn't think that I even liked fish until I tried this - and now we have two - three pounds of fish delivered every week! We usually get the scallops (which are huge and incredible!), the flounder (because it's a quick week night meal), and swordfish or tuna (for a treat!). It's incredibly fresh and delicious. A whole new definition of fresh! Like sassy teen daughter fresh! Never makes it to the table from the oven or skillet without every member of the family grabbing a bite along the way. I would not consider myself a particularly fantastic cook but this fish makes me look like a head chef! Literally needs nothing but a pat of butter and a spritz of salt. I have been ordering fish from Svenfish since last fall. I am very fussy about fresh fish and I have been consistently very happy with the weekly fish that I order. It always taste so much fresher than anything I can buy at the local fish market. Best scallops I've ever eaten!! And that's saying something because I love scallops. I'd been eyeing them in the store, now I'm soooo glad I waited! We love having fresh fish and have been getting fish from Svenfish for six months. The fish is always as fresh as you can get and of fantastic quality. We are big scallop family and those have always been great. We recently tried the haddock which we all enjoyed and a few weeks back we tried the tuna for the fish time and it was so fresh we had been sashimi style. Without question the best quality (consistently) I've ever cooked with, with the only exception to catching it myself and eating it on the boat. Svenfish gets fish to me hours after the boats have docked, scallops, tuna, cod, skate, and haddock have been amazing.
