I fell in love today…read more With a bookstore, that is. We're vacationing in Prince Edward County (in Ontario, Canada) for a few weeks and the nearest town to where we are staying is the quaint, marina town of Picton. In order to do our grocery shopping, we take the 10 minute drive into this charming town and I've been exploring Main Street's numerous shops. I happened to be running an errand at the other end of Main Street and of course, a store called "Books & Company" caught my eye. (I love bookstores!) I walked into a very welcoming and very large space that appeared to house a few different groups. It seemed like it was part 'big bookstore' (reminded me of Indigo and Chapters), part independent bookstore (think 'Book City'), part used bookstore (my favourite), then, off to the side....wait, was that a hallway to the next door coffee shop? Yes , this establishment was a blend of my two favourite types of stores. A coffee shop attached to a bookstore! And this isn't one of the big, commercial coffee shops that are partnered with a just-as-big- bookstore, it was a small town, family run coffee joint, which in my opinion, are the best kind! (['ve reviewed Miss Lily's separately) While I waited for my coffee to be made, I meandered across the small hallway that joins Miss Lily's to Books & Company. The small ramp also serves as a community pin-board for the area. I actually found out via the board that there is a Harry Potter camp in the area. (My elder boy may go!) After picking up my coffee I wandered around the book store, which was exactly what I thought it was: part new books like Indigo (with a great children's section in the back) and part old and used books (I was in that section for a while). There's even a great stationary area and community space upstairs, which happened to be hosting a local art collection that can be browsed for $3.00. I bought an old book for my measly old-book collection that I'm thinking of starting. ("Over the Ocean to Paris" by Franklin W. Dixon...I'm a bit of a Francophile) And I also picked up a blank greeting card with a photo by a local photographer of a scene from Prince Edward County, for my penpal. (You read right, I do have a penpal!) The lovely lady behind the desk was great to chat with and after I told her that it's a lovely place, she said that it was an even lovelier place to work. I made my purchase for $4.95 and walked out into the sunshine. What an amazing start to the day. If you're in Picton, ask a local where "The Bookstore" is. They'll know exactly what you're talking about.

They also have another huge section of the store dedicated for hobbies and collectibles (sport cards, trading cards, comics, boardgames, figurines, etc.) Back to books - they sell old books at a great, low price! I found old series from authors I love, and books from a decade ago that I thought I'd never find. This is really the place to be! Books are categorized from various genres and are kept neatly and in alphabetical order by author's last names. The family who works there is super friendly, welcoming, and takes great care of the store. Thank you Bob! You were very helpful :)

There are lots of solid wooden toys and interactive learning toys, not just made in China junk. You will pay a bit more but you get the feeling that these toys will last for more than one child and will teach them something, even if it's just the power of their imagination! On the other hand, I think the owner may have had some bad experiences with low-life people though, since he is located in a bad part of town (north downtown). At least I hope that's the reason he seems to look down on some people. I went in one day I'd been renovating my house and I had an old shirt and jeans on. He literally looked down his nose at me and barely acknowledged me but watched me like a hawk while I browsed. I haven't been back since. You can't judge your customers so obviously in retail.

Although I do own a few gaming consoles, they aren't the latest and greatest. That's okay. I play what I like and can afford. At EB Games, you can get new and gently used games, consoles, and accessories. I like these options. It also has a bunch more items. If you are a Funko Pop collector, there are tons of them. Occasionally, you can get deals on them. I like looking at stuffed toys, such as Ugly Dolls plushies and the new version of Tamagotchi. I used to have a Tamagotchi eons ago. It's nice to see that they are still kicking around. I was not a good owner of my virtual pet! I ended up getting a cute key ring, with pineapple, banana, and watermelon characters on it. It was on sale. Yes! There was a couple in front of me. They were getting a PS4 gaming system. I am still on my PS3. If you ever want a combo Blu-ray DVD player and a fun gaming console, go with a PS3 and higher. Kill two birds with a single stone. They decided to get a used gaming controller that was $6 cheaper than the new one. The store certifies that their used items are in excellent working condition, which is great. They were sweet in apologizing to me for waiting. I was in no rush and wished them happy gaming! I paid for my lone item and used a credit card. All was great. I walked out happy that I didn't break the bank. (344)

The first store that I visited at this mall was Old Navy. I walked in and loved how cheerful it was. I found a sales rack where all jeans were $9.99. I managed to find a pair of jeans that I liked and headed to the change room section. The man there was enthusiastic and led me to an open change room. My jeans fit perfectly. Mine! This store felt like an outlet. There was so much merchandise on sale. I was good and didn't get an entire wardrobe. I was content with my pair of jeans. I went to line up and pay for my item. There was only one woman staffed and she was taking quite some time to help the woman customer out. The nice guy who worked the change room came over and helped with me with my item. It was nice dealing with him again. I had a great experience shopping here. It's a good Old Navy to drop by. (340)
