I recommend to her to everyone I know as "my friend Lydia" because, frankly, a session with her is like visiting my friend Lydia but with pretty pictures at the end. Lydia has photographed my youngest's first birthday and my family on a number of occasions over the years and she's got an innate talent for capturing their personalities (and also rolling with their sometimes uncooperative personalities). She also works with me to find the right ambiance for the pictures I envision and they look very natural. I was struck recently by how good she is at creating rapport. We ran into her while she was working a shoot and my kids ran to her as soon as they recognized her. The joy on their faces was like she was their favorite Aunt they hadn't seen in awhile. She briefly caught up with her before she got back to work, and it was really sweet. I encourage everyone to get family pictures done, kids grow up sooo fast but for an experience that will put the whole family at ease, book with Lydia.

We met for coffee to discuss logistics, and by the end, my stomach hurt from laughing and my excitement soared about all the clever ways Lydia planned to capture our unique relationship. She's adventurous in her photography and won't settle for boring or mediocre. When I chose Rattlesnake Lake for our engagement shoot, she said, "Awesome. We're getting in, right? I have some underwater images I've been dying to shoot." She didn't even flinch when I insisted on bringing our puppies. Instead, she took some of the best animal photography I've ever seen (and if you knew our wiggly Morris, you'd know that's a near-impossible feat). Our brunch wedding had her working from dawn until well into the night, capturing candid party pictures that make my heart smile every time I look at them. I'm so grateful we found Lydia and her team, and I can't wait to work with her again.

Her communication from start to finish was on point - she was patient, warm, and responsive throughout. She even offered a style guide and feedback on our outfit considerations, which was immensely comforting to us for our first attempt at family photos! On the morning of our session, my three year old was in a MOOD. He was throwing a fit most of the time and I assumed we hadn't snagged even one photo of him smiling. Monica's photos make it seem like I remembered the morning wrong! She wasn't fazed at all by his fussing, rolled with it all, snagged other family configurations while he loudly melted down to the side, and then managed to get the photos we'd hoped for. Magical! The final results are beautiful and we feel really lucky we landed with Monica. Thank you for your warmth and talent, Monica!
