DELICIOUS Thai food. My family once owned a Thai restaurant and I can assure you that this is excellent Thai food. Love getting takeout when we are at our family lake house. You might have to wait a long time on a weekend in the summer but it is definitely worth the wait (just plan ahead). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

Suwan's vegetable curry is a work of culinary art. Served in a lovely bowl. We also asked for a side platter of ripe pineapple chunks (not on the menu). I ordered the tiger shrimp salad and would not order that again, although the shrimp itself was plentiful and delicious, and tasted even better in a mayo-based dipping sauce (which is not on the menu - I asked for it). I thought the menu said the vegetable curry had lemon grass flavors and I did not taste that at all, and I love lemon grass - one big reason to eat Thai food, imho. Overall I would go there again for that vegetable curry. There was a front patio where we could sit and have our little dog on a leash near us. You can also pick up a cheap used paperback novel to read back at the cottage b/c the mosquitoes and flies drove you indoors, ha! read more

Really surprised at how exceptional the food is, tucked away in a little hamlet in the middle of the Haliburton Highlands. Wife had the beef teriyaki and I had the beef panaeng and both were as good if not better then most I've had back home. Will stop by next time we're in the area for sure read more

Suwan's is a quaint friendly restaurant with lovely servers and I have been more than once as a result. I struggle with the Pad Thai however. I want to like it because I like the restaurant but I find it very sour. After several efforts I found some menu items that allow me to bump my rating from 3 to 4 stars. The coconut chicken soup and deep fried shrimp rolls. I do echo other reviews -not the best tasting Thai food I have had. Favourite restaurant in the area. A bit pricey and you need to plan your visit as it is very busy. Good sized portions.

My friends and I visited this restaurant during our trip to Algonquin Highlands for dinner. We arrived for takeout and ordered two Pad Thai's with chicken and the Beef Red Curry. The food was bland, had high prices, had no taste, and had no spice as advertised on the menu. Not to mention the server told us that the food would be ready in 20 mins, but we waited for an hour before we got our food. Definitely one of the worst Thai places we have ever tried. I certainly wasn't expecting particularly good Thai in a small town like Minden, but I thought I'd give it a shot because it was busy so that was a good sign. This restaurant is small and eclectic looking. It's a restaurant/antique store and the feel of it is very charming and adorable. There appeared to be only one woman doing the majority of the cooking. She did look Thai, so that was another good sign. The service was slow and it honestly took them forever to take orders and deliver dishes. Thank goodness we had a lot of time to kill between meetings or this lunch would have seriously messed up our schedule. The food was really good. Not the best Thai I've ever had, but it was surprisingly tasty and authentic given the small town locale. The spices did seem a bit toned down for these Minden folks who might consider Frank's hot sauce sinus-blastingly hot. If I go here again, I'd probably ask them to go a bit heavier on the chilies. The green curry had a load of interesting vegetables you don't tend to see in green curry (brussel sprouts, squash, zucchini). read more

PAD THAI. BEST. EVER. I'm actually extremely confused.. because photo and reviews of the other Thai restaurant in Minden "Wild Thai Orchid" describe the exact same thing as this restaurant! I found Wild Thai Orchid first on Yelp and their address leads to a random house. UMMM.... Anyways, THIS location actually exists! AND IT IS SOOOOO GOOD. At first I thought: Yeah right, Minden folks! You don't know Thai food! But WOW was I SO wrong. Pad thai here is soooooo delicious, extremely, intensely, OMGCRAZY flavourful! The curry is also really good! You won't be disappointed! I found the stir fry shrimps and cashew to be a tad too salty, but it's still delicious because the shrimps are big! I've also tried another chicken curry (item menu to be confirmed), it turned out to be LOADED with chicken and it was so filling! I ate half... The soup with coconut milk is very smooth and heavenly. Spring rolls are AMAZING (but 4...). Lastly the roti!!!! It tastes like pancakes lol but still very yummy with the soup. YEP my boyfriend comes to Minden to... you guessed it... ICE RACE (that's a story of its own) and we've been here every weekend for dinner in Feb 2014! My favourite of all these items is still the Pad Thai. NOTE: snail-like service. We had the Pad Thai and a wonderful sweet curry with chicken. Beautiful afternoon to enjoy our lunch on the patio with our 2 beautiful big dogs. Our dogs are very well behaved, and we are so thankful for restaurants with patios who allow pets. The food was exceptionally tasty and the service was warm and efficient. As a part time resident of Minden and a lover of Thai food, finding out that there was a new place in town excited me. That being said, I will never go back. I had ordered an "assorted mushroom soup with Thai seasoning - 1 chili heat"... What I got was a raw, white mushroom only, bathed in a luke warm water with grease separated, with GIANT chunks of nasty tomatoes in the bottom and 2 pieces of coriander. ZERO flavour, ZERO assortment. Awful. My boyfriend ordered a "SPICY" noodle dish, what he got was a plate full of soggy, starchy, Mr. Noodles with raw green pepper and a few pieces of 'beef' with little to no seasoning what-so-ever in it. 27$ for something that an elementary student could make using dollarstore ingredients?! Absolutely an embarrassment for both Thai cuisine and for the Town of Minden. We deserve far better food quality. Also, did not tip as the service was horrible. read more

This place is authentic! Better than the Thai food in Toronto in my opinion.

The food is good but the waiting of the order were too long. We had 9 dishes. 7 adults and 3 kids. We were done with the appetizers long before the main dishes were done. 3 uncomfortable kids waiting for food. They gave us a small bowl of white rice and our order of French fries which the kids devoured it. The wait must have been about 45 minutes where my son in law and 3 kids went outside to quiet down the kids and missed the dinner. read more

I have been here many times and the food is delicious every time. Located within an antique store, it has an eclectic ambiance that is very charming. You can sit outside and overlook the river or grab a table inside and enjoy the atmosphere. The owner used to have an award winning restaurant in Toronto before moving to Minden. To the guy who says this is better than Thai food in Toronto - you got me to come here! Unfortunately Suwan's has only okay Thai food, definitely not as good as Toronto. The pad thai and tom kha kai (coconut chicken soup) do not have the herbs required to make it more tasty. The soup was missing galangal, lemongrass and Thai basil. It did have cilantro though. We also had the pineapple curry, which was the best out of the here items we ordered. Owners are nice and service was good! read more

Nice place to stop for lunch when in Minden. It's attached to antique store, which gives the restaurant a unique homey feel. The food is good and the service is very friendly. We had Pad Thai and Massaman Curry, both with chicken. Tea is served in unique English teapots and the open kitchen adds to the authenticity and the aroma. read more

This is truly superb Thai food. I was there with a group of eight and everyone was very pleased with their choice. It got a bit confusing as dishes are served when they are ready which means they are piping hot but also that each person should eat when served or it will be cold when the last person is served. Finally found a place to park, in a very busy town, on a beautiful summer Friday afternoon for lunch. Walked all the way inside to an internal door to the restaurant to be greeted by a sign stating "Will reopen at 5" or whatnot. Saw staff in the kitchen through the door. Did the cook need a nap?
