In 1936, it was registered as the 49th member of the National Live Oak Society. There's a brochure on the back of the oak tree statistics plaque with information on the Big Oak Cam. You can call a number and it will take a pic of you in front of the tree. You can then go to their website and download the photo for free! Kinda cool! Would highly recommend! Such a cool historic landmark.

Visited the Old Hamilton County Jail as part of Paranormal Kicks Cancer, an orginisation that…read moreraises funds for kids who have cancer. They are currently renovating the Jail, so there are spots that are works in progress, but the location is a historical land mark. It is a reportedly (ok, It IS) a HAUNTED location! We were actually able to do an over night, which gave us the ability to actually investigate the location thoroughly. I personally had the experience of the "presence" of a guard walking toward me while I was in their walk way at the Solitary Confinement area. We experienced phantom voices, voices on the ovulous, and shapes appearing and interacting on the FLIR camera. Overall it was a really fun investigation. I look forward to future events.

And we noticed that there was a sink hole that promised a beautiful view. It was a long way down in a long way up, but the scenery. The view was very beautiful, clean fresh air, and it seemed to be a very popular place. If you haven't been here I would highly recommend you give it a look. It's very well worth a walk and the exercise and fresh air is good for you. The only thing that kind of bothered me was the honor system for people to go down and visit the sinkhole. It's only two dollars per person or four dollars a car load. People were not donating or picking up after their dogs. The park is beautiful but I bet it would be stunning during spring.

I've been to the former, I have not been to the latter, but I'm passing through Gainesville and now I need to visit the third publicly accessible tunnel in the state. The Norman Hall Tunnel is also known as the 13th Street Tunnel. It connects the two halves of the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and was opened to the public in 1957. It is not open to vehicles, but rather pedestrians and bicycles. It's pretty well covered in graffiti from end to end. I found parking nearby. They had Monster Energy on hand, the vending machines are managed by a truly…read morehardworking blind employee (seriously, that's impressive), and if I had to imagine where I'd bunker down during a hurricane--well, this newly revamped rest area on I-10 westbound in Florida might just pop into my head. (Kidding! Please don't actually do that.) I pulled off for a quick break and was pleasantly surprised by how clean and modern everything looked. The bathrooms were tidy, the snack selection was solid, and grabbing that Monster was almost too easy. The fact that the vending machines are run by someone who's blind really stood out to me. It's not something you see every day, and it honestly put a smile on my face to see them running such a smooth operation. In the grand scheme of things, it's still a rest area, not a five-star resort. But it offered exactly what I needed at that moment--clean facilities, a decent energy boost, and a sense that someone actually cared about keeping the place welcoming. If you're rolling along I-10 and need to stop, this one's definitely worth a few minutes of your time.

On I-10, west of I-75 by a bit, this was a great stop. They do have a sign that indicates "three hour parking" so you can't overnight here. There is the "picnic area loop" around the back where you can find a nice shady spot for a nap and be away from the traffic noises. Plenty of space! The restrooms are clean and there is an attendant here so I was not at all concerned about security. Just remember to slow down as you're entering the parking area.
