He is responsible for a huge number of other courthouses including Buncombe County (Asheville NC), Durham County (Durham NC) and Mecklenburg County (Charlotte NC). Previous log structures (1848, 1860, 1867, and 1874) burned. This one is in the Classical Revival style and includes the dome and cupola (removed before 1989 but restored in 2003). The building was completed in 1905. On a Saturday afternoon, the building was completely secured but you can still look through the windows on the ground floor. It appears unexciting.
