According to Wikipedia, the Brooks County Courthouse boasts Renaissance Revival and Romanesque Revival architectural styles. The brick building was constructed before the Civil War but in 1892 it was restored and it's now on the National Register of Historic Places. Outside your eyes will be drawn to a three-tiered fountain and two prominent arches but be sure to take the front staircase up to the courtroom. The space features gloriously high ceilings, large windows and charming woodwork. The wooden courtroom benches have a beautiful timeworn patina and are fastened to the plank floors by wrought iron brackets. Purses and cell phones are prohibited from the courthouse, so unfortunately I couldn't get any photos of the interior when I was there last week. To me it reminded me of the inside of the courthouse used in the 2010 film True Grit. I could totally picture people tying up their horses outside and racing up the stairs to the courtroom. Quitman may be a sleepy town but it has a striking courthouse that looks like it's straight out of a movie. It's a real charmer.

I was here overnight recently and enjoyed visiting the downtown area. I have also passed through it many times and enjoyed some good restaurants. Valdosta, Georgia is an evolving community and I believe it is a positive evolution. Valdosta doesn't have to be a sleepy little blip on Interstate 75 and it will continue to come into its own as time and Valdosta, Georgia progresses.

She keeps receiving citations from the city about her yard. Which she does keep up the best she can. But, apparently there's someone riding around citing people for their grass/yards. You would think in these days and times with the cost of everything skyrocketing the city wouldn't be putting the squeeze on people in lower income neighborhoods. Not the case. Instead they wait for the weekend to pass and then hit the streets to extract money from the citizens by being petty. My girlfriend works weekends and has to do her yard during the week. (When she can) She doesn't live in an HOA and none of her neighbors are calling the city so, why the city is using hard times to make citizens lives even harder is beyond me. It's truly disgusting. I know she isn't the only one dealing with this and I'm helping where I can. It's the total disconnect from what people are going through these days that has me writing this review. If people are struggling with food, gas, bills, etc. Why is the city out there citing people that are already stressed and overwhelmed. I repeat. Disgusting. It's unacceptable and the City of Valdosta needs to check it's moral fiber and duty to struggling residents. The insult to injury is knowing that privileged government administrators that can afford landscape maintenance are comfortable with this kind of financial pressure on single parents. It's really incredible in an inconsiderate and disturbing way. STOP IT!!!!
